I was just at the Fort last week (8/18-8/25) I had a very good time with the family and loved every minute like we always did....

One complaint though--

Disney should regulate some of the kids that go down the slide at the Meadows pool. Not only did I watch about a dozen and a half kids swim for their lives after they get down the slide, but the parents that were sending the kids down were laughing like it was no big deal.

And yes we are all kids at heart when we are in Disney and I even took a trip down the slide and almost nailed a parent that was waiting to catch his kid at the end of the slide, then got wise comment from him after I came up out of the water.

Disney should put a rope up and maybe have some height requirements for the slide. If i recall there are two slides in the kiddie swim area that are for guest under a certain height.

anyone else experience this?

Usually when I've been in the pool a lifeguard is either standing right next to the slide where it hits the water or directly across from it (further away). On one occasion the lifeguard hit the <kill> button on the slide and jumped in to get a kid who was dog paddling in place and couldn't move out of the way had another slider come down. I agree there are a lot of moron parents.

Also as a former lifeguard of many years, the urge to tell anybody's kid to "stop running on the pool deck" is still natural to me. I understand the lifeguards aren't baby sitters either which is where I come back to my moron parents statement. I've even been waiting at the bottom for my kids to come down and have given a hand to a kid to get them out of the landing zone and give them a push toward the steps so they don't get creamed.

So yes, your experience was not unique.

I say if you fit you can slide. You're never too old.

had my young grandson with us at slide,he was in life jacket. made a few older kids made as i would not let them stand at bottem of slide and catch him. he did not want caught and i was told by one that her mom told her to catch him cause i was not catching him. she was not happy when i told her she could not catch him and would tell the gaurd to stop her if she tried, child as about 10 or 12. she went complaining to her mom that i said no. had to have husband at top cause he would not wait for green light. i would stand to side, wait for him to come down and grab jacket as he came by. got him to edge and repeat.

My wife and I both were former Disney lifeguards during beginning college years. Her at Blizzard and myself at Typhoon. If ur kid can make it on his own without the guard jumping in after him/her, go for it. No one cares if you assist as long as u aren't directly blocking the slide. Use common sense and courtesy. Stay clear. As far as correcting a child, that's a parent's responsibility but Lord help you if my kid gets trampled because someone is not obeying the rules. Defend your own proudly and if it means correcting another kid or adult, do it. If you won't stand up for ur's, who will. Guards aren't babysitters and don't want to be stuck between 2 parties. Just something from a different POV.

grandson is a biter and he almost bit the one girl that tried to catch him. she wanted to know why as she was helping him, told her and tht stopped her but other one would not take no for an answer. mom wanted guard to make me catch him as she did not approve of how i was handling him. guard just wanted him to wait for light. grandson was enjoying going under the water and coming up. did not want to involve guard but could not get them to leave him alone. maybe i should have just let him bite the girl but i bet mom would have upset then.
