The Sea Witch Stole My Voice! Our Two Week Land and Sea Adventure! COMPLETE 4/12

Hi Lessa! Loved your Tortola beach excursion, if I didn't post that before. Your St. Thomas pics are great! Mine are pretty similar - go figure!:goodvibes DH wants to retire there and run a run shop! :rotfl2: Did you ever find out who those old abandoned houses belonged to? I like to make up stories that it was pirates for sure! pirate:

Sorry I missed that last update Lessa!! Those photos are beautiful! The houses....must be nice to be rich!!!

Yep, must be nice! :cloud9:

I wouldn't mind retiring there either. Our guide told us that on St Thomas rum is cheaper than milk.

Nope, no idea what the ruins are, that is the one thing the guide didn't touch on.

I have always wanted to visit the Virgin Islands ever since I saw Weekend at Bernie's II when I was a kid. My brothers and I thought that there was nothing more hilarious than the dead Bernie doing his voodoo walk around the island and under the sea. We must have watched that movie a million times growing up. So needless to say I was thrilled to finally be in the beautiful Virgin Islands where the movie was filmed.

We continued on our boat trip from St Thomas to St John with the guide telling us some history about the island and some other neat little tidbits.

This is alligator rock, it "guards" hurricane cove. According to our guide when a hurricane is predicted to hit St Thomas all the locals take their boats and dock them in this cove. The rocks, shallow water and brush in the area keep the area very well protected against the wind and violent seas of the storm.

It is called alligator rock as from a distance, well, it looks like an alligator! ;)

This one wasn't too shabby either.

Our guide informed us that Obama had stayed at this resort on a recent vacation with his family.

St John is owned by the US National Park Service. It used to be owned privately by Laurence Rockefeller but back in 1956 he donated it to the Park Service stipulating that it must be protected from future development. As a result 75% of the island is a dedicated National Park, completely untarnished. There are a few resorts and vacation homes on the island and a small town but for the most part when you visit St John it is just you and nature.

Our guide was very enthusiastic in his appreciation of Rockefeller and his wonderful contribution thus preserving this natural paradise for our past, present and future enjoyment. I have to completely agree with this praise, St John is absolutely amazing and if you ever get the chance you should definitely visit. It is very easy to get to as hourly shuttles run between St Thomas and St John and there is also a shuttle that runs daily between St John and Tortola (they are only 4 miles apart).

 No problem! The brain can only focus on DNA replication/transcription and cell division for so long.

St John is stunning, I love that it is preserved as a natural park.

St John looks gorgeous! I will be happy to move into any one of those houses!! Even the "quaint little one"!!!!!!

It's the most beautiful beach I've ever seen. We were just on the driving tour so we just drove by....it sounds like you did the 3 hour on the beach...:thumbsup2

Some of the bathrooms in those houses are probably bigger than my apartment!

Wow...super update! I loved seeing all the pics of the island, especially the ones of the houses and resorts! Very cool!
I can't wait to see what the beach looks like that you went to. I bet it's beautiful!

I LOVE St John- I'm so happy you went, Tessa!! We go every year with friends of ours and stay in a villa. We'll be there at the end of January with them again for our 4th trip! Last year was the first time we went to Trunk (although our friends had been there before)- it was incredible, sooooo ,many fish to see and sooo beautiful. STJ is a very special island, very laid back and very, very beautiful! Can't wait to see more pics!! :surfweb:

Glad you liked the pictures. The houses we saw were amazing! I can only imagine how wonderful it must be to own a home on such a beautiful island right there overlooking the water. :cloud9:

How lucky that you get to go every year. Maybe once I finish school and am no longer a poor student I will make a trip down to the VI every year. :cloud9:

With the port being St Thomas, I knew that there was no other excursion option for us other than St John.

Beautiful photos Lessa, pity the houses weren't up to much there as it looked a lovely place to live ;) :rotfl:
