I just booked our first trip to HH for May:cool1: . We are looking forward to the change of pace from WDW. We have DD3princess: and DD1princess: (when we travel). Any and all suggestions for what to do, where to eat, any requests I should make, etc. would be appreciated.

Thanks for any and all help!:)

We love HHI! After going 4 times we bought add on just to get 11 month advance for summer reservations(absolutely necessary!). We have been 4 times during xmas week, once in April and twice in June. Each season has its own special stuff. We love staying in building 29 or 30 because we have had great views of the inlet into shelter cove and can watch the kayakers and dolphins in the morning with your coffee on the porch! The only other rooms have been in the main lodge and the advantage is covered parking and an elevator. The resort has alot to offer with nice pool area with slide, activites at the community hall and evening camp fires. They have nature canoe trips to pickney island and marsh explorations also. The beach house is in palmetto dunes area across the main road. We drove there , but you can bike there or take the shuttle. The beach house has a nice pool with lockers, take out restaurant, lounge(open seasonally), game room and living area with TV. The beach is amazing and great to walk or swim. You can rent umbrella chairs from them on season. During summer seasons there are pool games for the kids at both pools. You can walk to shops and restaurants at Shelter cove, right over the bridge. We love Scott's fish market and enjoyed Kingfisher also. Our favorite restaurant is Old Oyster Factory (have to drive there). The atmosphere is very relaxing and we have enountered great CM each trip with alots of "welcome homes". The rooms are spacious with a fishing lodge mode. Our DS was 7 when we first stayed there and was a veteran of 4 visits to OKW by then. He said this was "different" vacation. Very true, no rushing for park opening. There is lots of shopping close by or in Harbortown. We love it! Pick up a restaurant guide when you get on island.

Connears

some people do not like the fact that you are not right on the beach, but I disagree. The resort is relaxing and has so much to offer. The 1 mile to the beach is not an issue, especially since you have the use of the beach house and all its facilities.

Connears,

Thanks for all the info. It's great to get some inside info before going. I'm glad to hear you love it so much.

Thanks again!

I hope the OP doesn't mind if I ask another question regarding HHI-We want to try it out in the next year or 2. My question revolves around the weather-I hate really high humidity mixed with high temps but also want to swim in the pool and spend time on the beach in comfortable temps. Any opinions on the best time to visit-not too hot or too cold for Goldilocks? Thanks and to the OP-have a great trip and hope to read a trip report when you get back!

We've been twice (or three times) in early to mid October. It was still warm enough to swim and tolerable at the beach. I believe the humidity was much better by then as well. However, it is during hurricane season - so you take your chances with that. Also, it seems like we've experienced quite a bit of rain on our trips - so I don't know if Oct. is typically a rainy month or if we just have had bad luck.
