The Save Money for Disney Thread (Tips Included)

Yep I work for Carilion Clinic. A feel it is a good place to work and the patient care is excellent, despite all of the negative press it has gotten lately. At least in my brief experience there thus far.

I wish I could be a video game or golf club mystery shopper :lmao:

As for the blogging for dollars, yes you only get paid after you accumulate $100 but if you keep the blog running, you'll make more residual over time than if you just did ehow.com Still writing articles that do self referral to your blog on sites like those can benefit you. You get the money for the howto article and the site exposure on the search engines. I use this technique through ezinearticles.com to generate exposure. :)

Anyway, I don't know why I am still up, just put in another 30 hours at the ICU, was a very busy night. need sleep now

nice to see this thread keep on going!

There's one company that I'm signed up for that does professional sporting and arena events. They don't pay anything, but you do get a free tickets for the event and reimbursement for parking. Maybe not the best way to earn extra cash, but it's a cheap way to have fun!! Plus, you could get special club level tickets to evaluate the employees in that area.

As for golf, I've seen shops where you go hit a bucket of balls. I haven't seen a full game of golf anywhere yet, but I'm sure they're out there!!

Sorry I've been so inactive. The transition to the next rotation has been soul-crushing thus far. Still alive though. Haven't saved a dime though. Wife bought a painting for the house. :wizard:

I talked with an Avon rep the other day and she is headed over here tomorrow.. I'll find out more tomorrow as far as the % I would earn for orders.. but its only $10 to sign up.. I dont wear makeup so I figure my earnings are a safe bet to save for Disney  I already have some people that I know will buy from me.. so heres hoping for some easy money.. ;)

We bought a woodstove a few weeks ago and have an abundance of wood behind our house to use. Since we installed it, the furnace has not been on at all. HUGE savings for us!! Yeah!!:cool1: :cool1:

I didn't read thru all the posts so this may be a repeat - I do mypoints.com - I just earned 2-$25 GC to Rainforest Cafe to use during our next trip.

I'm sure this was mentioned before, but bears repeating:

One idea is to call all your service providers and see if they can lower your rates. Within the last month I called cable, phone, internet, and garbage. Just by asking, I was able to save around $50 a month to recieve the same services I currently have (Except garbage. They don't negotiate...we just moved down one size of garbage can and recycled more.)

Good luck with savings, everyone!

I fired at&t this week. I'm using my cellphone only now. My bill used to run almost $90.00 a month now $0. I'm just thrilled to get rid of this bill. This extra cash now goes into my disney fund.

I decided to start a savings account for Disney.

And I set a certain amount that I pay into it regularly just like it was the electricity bill or phone bill.

Also, I save $1 bills.

Also...we bought premium annual passes for our family...and so if we find a good special on a hotel..we just go to disney at the spur of the moment. Often we catch a really good hotel deal because our days of travel are flex.

We also have a seperate account for vacations. It is an ING account that earns currently 2.2% not much, but there are no minimums and things can be transferred online from your bank accounts and back into them.

I also have a paypal debit card thats linked to my checking account, so instead of using a check, I use the debit card and earn 1% on every purchase, so not only am I saving the cost of writing a check, I am also earning a little money. Another way to save is to do all your bill paying online, saving the cost of stamps and checks. My paypal account is also a money market account that earns a small %. These are all free to setup. Once a month, I transfer the 1% into my ING account to save for vacations.

Buy books at yard sales and resell them on eBay or Amazon. I've found that cookbooks do well. Just make sure they are in good condition.

I also sell wholesale lists along with a program that teaches people how to setup and run their own eBay store. People would email me all the time asking me where to buy things to sell on eBay. You won't find (real) wholesalers or dropshippers on Google because they don't advertise, for not wanting to be overrun by the general public. I know a lot of people sell these lists for several hundred sometimes even $1000.00. Because you can buy things like whole truckloads of electronics or pallets of clothing. Or you can use the dropshippers to sell one item at a time and never have to have any inventory. The dropshippers will ship the item directly to your customer with your name on it. I sell mine for about $100.00. But I probably sell a lot more of them than they do. Plus, mine isn't JUST a list of wholesalers and dropshippers. You actually get all of heir contact information, info on what they sell, etc., and step by step instructions on how to setup your eBay business or even your own website.

I haven't done it in a while since eBay changed their policy. I used to just be able to email people a link to download the program. Now you have to physically mail them a disk and I've just been too busy this past year. (Moved across country, bought a house, got married, Etc.) Plus with all my wholesale items I sell, bruning cds all day is just too time consuming.

There is a Clinical Research Labs near me where I sign up for studies where you test lotions, soaps, sunscreens, shampoo, etc... most of these items were already on the market, but they may change a fragrance of the product and want to test the product. I work full time, but am able to average an extra $100 a month for very little effort. I also signed up at a market research place where I made $150 for a couple hours of talking about toilet paper. I had to take a 1/2 day that day, but it was worth it. We're going to Disney in April and my goal is to make $750 for spending by that time since January. Also for the clinical studies, for every person I refer that completes a study, they pay me an extra $40.

I have a question for those who use mypoints:
Is it worth my time? Have you had any problems with it?
I really would like to try new things to try to save money for WDW, but I don't want to spend money on subscriptions I'm never going to use...
Any advice?
Thanks!! :cool2:

I love MyPoints! You don't have to ever purchase anything if you don't want to. They will send you emails, sometimes once a day sometimes more. For every email scroll to the bottom and you will see a link that says you receive 5 points for visiting the site. Click the link and you get 5 points added to your account. Now if you want to get points faster, whenever you want to place an internet order with a store ( walmart, target, gap, etc.) go to MyPoints first and search the store you want to shop at. It will then tell you how many points you get per dollar spent at that site. Click the link to that store and shop through that window. You will be credited for your purchase. Points can add up fast. My dh never purchases anything, just answers emails and has almost 3000 points right now. I get lots of points around Christmas when I do most of my shopping online. I already have one Landrys gift card and have almost enough points between me and dh for two more for T-Rex! Good Luck!
