Hello,

I would like to know if anyone has ever used their points for a stay at The Sagamore Resort on Lake George, NY. We will be spending three nights there at the end of May in a 1 Bedroom Lodge Suite.

I would like to know anything you can tell me about the resort, how the room was (any pictures?), hotel restaurants (any suggestions?) and any places outside of the resort that are 'must see/do' things?

Any other tips about the area are also well appreciated.

Thanks for your help!

DVC Chris

We were touring the model BCV rooms at BWV last week and met up with some fellow DVCers. In the course of our conversation they mentioned they used their points for a stay at the Sagamore.

Although they didn't get into specifics, they were very happy with their stay there.

We stayed at the Sagamore on Disney points at the end of last September. We went for a romantic weekend without the kids. It was incredible. The grounds are magnificant and the views from the steps and patios behind the Veranda will take your breath away.

We ate at the Trillium, Mr. Brown's, and had afternoon tea and evening drinks at the Veranda. We also ate breakfast in the Sagamore room. They are all different experiences. Bring a good range of clothing. The Trillium is absolutely elegant. The service and atmosphere alone make it worth the price, and, of course, the food is to die for. Jackets are required for men there. It's a nice chance to do something really special and be really pampered.

Mr. Brown's is very casual and the food is also excellent. The price range there was very moderate. It won't break your bank and you'll enjoy your meal. It is decorated to highlight the natural beauty of the area. It's an upscale pub.

The Veranda is just that - an old veranda with wicker furniture. They had jazz performances there in the afternoon and evening while we were there. You can get light meals (finger sandwich-type food), drinks, and afternoon tea. The Veranda spills outdoors onto stepped terraces with Adirondack furniture. The landscaping is unique, and this area looks right out over Lake George. There is waiter/waitress service outside. And you're in for a special treat at night out there. I won't ruin it for you. Just go back out there after dark!

The Sagamore room is where they serve breakfasts and all the views are wonderful. Try to get a seat by a window. This room is so very pretty, classic Victorian. The breakfast spread will fill you up until dinner. The most difficult decision of your day will be how to limit yourself with all the choices there.

We enjoyed the Lodge suite. It is very spacious and we were lucky enough to get a perfect view of the lake. However, if I have one criticism of the Sagamore, it is that the Lodges scream 1980s, while the rest of the island is turn-of-the-century post-Victorian. Someone completely lost the theme of the island when they added those condos.

The condos (Lodges) are decorated in an Adirondack theme, but a very tasteful version. They are comfortable units.

We toured the rooms in the old hotel and decided they were far more romantic, so we've booked one of those rooms with a lake view for this coming fall. Yes, we loved the Sagamore and we're going back.

The Sagamore has regular surrey rides around the property (horse-drawn carriages). They also have a state-of-the art gym, a spa, an indoor pool, etc. You'll be occupied well.

You should really visit their web site at http://www.thesagamore.com/html/index2.html

It looks too beautiful to be true, but it is as grand as the Web site portrays. I could go on forever with more details, but I think you'll see for yourself that this is a special place worth using those points for.

Have a wonderful stay!

We live near the Sagamore and stayed there once on a company conference trip a few years ago. The Sagamore is a top notch resort on Lake George. We had a one bedroom unit. We had a full kitchen, dining area, sunken living room with a fireplace. Very nice.

I've been visiting Lake George every year since 1969. Lake George is a wonderful resort area that is very family oriented. The Sagamore is a beautiful resort as well. I've been there several times. The dining is of the gourmet caliber and a bit pricey. There are scores of nearby restaurants that offer great alternatives. Call the Lake George Chamber of Commerce and have them send you there seasonal booklet with all to do at Lake George. I don't have a phone # but the area code is 518. Also in the area are historic forts, museums, amusement parks, water parks, game rooms, mini golf, go-karting,roller skating, drive in movies, and outlet shopping. E-Mail me if you need any other Lake George or Sagamore info.

Lake George is my home town. I grew up on the lake and loved every minute of it. The Sagamore is magnificent. The most beautiful thing about Lake George is that the islands are undeveloped and owned by the state of NY. Anyone can camp on the islands. You don't have to be wealthy to enjoy one of the most beautiful lakes in the U.S. When you are out on the lake all you see is natural beauty, not huge hotels. The lake is spring fed - clean and very cold! Located in the foothills of the Adirondacks, you can reach many other scenic spots within an hour or two. Saratoga Springs is about 45 minutes away if you enjoy horse racing. They also have the Saratoga Performing Arts Center there. Lake Placid is a day trip away. Make sure you go to the top of Prospect Mt. in Lake George. On a clear day you can see the Green Mts. in Vermont, the Catkills and Whiteface in NY. There are also some great shops in Bolton Landing (just down the street from the Sagamore. I prefer Bolton's shops to those in the village of Lake George. There are many, many things to see and do in the Lake George area.

A very close family friend of mine is the head chef at the Sagamore. He worked at the Woodstock Inn in Vt before landing the prestigious spot at the Sagamore. You won't be disappointed with his meals!

WE used our points about 3 yaers ago for a quick last minute getaway to the Sagamore over Thanksgiving. We loved it. It truely is elegant. The facade of the entrance reminded of the entrance to Boardwalk, although authentic in its age as well as design.

the restaurants are pricey. There is an indoor pool in a glass atrium overlooking the great lawn leading to the Lake. There are alot more activities on the property in warmer waether.
We eat at a little Restaurant just before the bridge that leads to The Sagamore--it was reasonable and kid friendly and very good.

we love to drive around that region. The Adirondacks are beatiful & my husband spent many years in this area as a Boy Scout, so ofcourse we endured his reminiscing!--Try to go to Fort Ticonderoga--30 minutes North east of the Sagamore.

WE would love to go bak , and probably will.
Have a great time!

Wow. DVC offers us so many nice places to visit... I had never really considered this one, before, but you guys are making me move it towards the top of my list! :)

Tell me. Where is the nearest major airport to this resort, and how far is the drive?

You could always stop in to Saratoga on the way or on the way back at exit 14 off the Northway. We are very proud of the little city here and have always had our guests gush over how lovely it is. We are originally from LI and Pa. and think we live near a treasure between the charm of the victorian buildings and the shops & resturaunts life is good. We have the National Museum of Dance as well as the National Museum of Horse Racing. The Congress Park is lovely for a picnic or just a stroll among the flowers. Try the waters from the natural springs!

The nearest major airport is Albany International (which is a pretty small airport nonetheless). It's a little over an hours drive, North on I-87 (the Northway) to exit 24.

Keep in mind that it can still be quite chilly in late May in the Lake George area, and you'll definitely want to bring a light jacket.

I'm another that grew up just South of there, right outside of Saratoga Springs. If you are flying into ALB, definitely plan on spending a couple hours in Saratoga between ALB and the Sagamore.

There are also several really good restaurants in the Bolton landing area that are less expensive to the Sagamores less formal options.

If you golf, there are several courses in the area as well.

Does anyone know when leaf season is in the Sagamore area?

GrammieMame, I would assume September/october would be the best time to visit.

We just got back from the Sagamore last weekend for a 3night/4 day stay. It is definitely a first class resort.

GrammieMame, If you go the third weekend in September they have a wonderful Hot Air Balloon festival in Glens Falls (just below Lake George by about 15 minutes). During the evening, they bring the balloons to Lake George for a night glow. Over 125 balloons participate each year. They have been celebrating the festival for 27 years. Not only is it a beautiful time to visit, it's free! You could take day trips to VT also. The colors are magnificent from the end of September to the first couple of weeks of October.

As far as the balloon festival it is in Queensbury which is a few exits south of The Sagamore and it is in fact the third weekend of September. It always sticks in my mind as it is the weekend my children were born.It is held at the Adirondack Community College I belive and everyone knows about it so just ask for directions. Leaf peeping season is definately between that weekend and the next two weekends. This is also a great time for Maple syrup and apple picking!

The Festival offically starts at Crandall Park in Glens Falls on Thursday night of the third weekend in Sept, then moves to the Adirondack College in Queensbury on Friday ( a smaller but more intimate balloon rise), then moves to the airport in Queensbury on Saturday. The airport is where most of the balloons show up. If you go, you should try to make it in the early morning at the airport. Its' very hard to get up at 5:00 a.m. but it is well worth the effort! The sun rises and meets the Adirondacks with spots of color everywhere. The balloons then move to Lake George on Saturday night for the moon glow. Lake George, Queensbury and Glens Falls all border each other, so it's not much of a drive to follow the balloons around the area from town to town. Just don't follow them into the lake! It is called the Adirondack Balloon Festival if you want to look up more information on it. They may have their own web site, if not, I know the city of Glens Falls has it on theirs. Have fun!

The last time I was at the Sagamore they had their own boat tour leaving right from the docks. Seeing the folliage from the water is just beautiful.

Peak season will be the first weekend in October. THe weekends before and after will also be lovely.

If you are thinking about this year, it might be too late already. most of the nicer resorts book up close to a year or more in advance during peak seasons.

Just another accolade for the Sagamore, the wife and I spent a short week there last mid October. The leaves were still on the trees and during the day the sun was very comfortable. The spa, gym and indoor pool were empty. All the restaurants were very nice. There were a lot of businesses that had closed for the season but there was still plenty to do. There is a large outlet shopping center just south of town and we wandered around the park and fort area in Lake George. We plan to return.

This may actually be a new thread starter, but has anyone else ever used their point in NYC?

We did this past NOv. at the Shelbourne Murray Hill on 40th & Lex(I thinK). It was great! We went the night before Thanksgiving and took a train uptown to see the balloons being filled w/ air for the Thanksgiving Day Parade 7 then in the morning we went to the parade. The hotel was lovely w/ a 1 bedroom suite. Very old fashioned in style very comfortable w a small kitchenette. I would definately reccomend it.

DVC-Chris, The Sagamore and all of the Adirondak region is beautiful but, one craveat: The end of May is the season for the scourge of the Adirondaks.... Black Fly season... bring lots of bug spray, hell even netting :D . If you are going Memorial Day weekend prepare for heavy crowds in the Village of LG. If you want a quieter scene try Warrensburg exit 23 off 87. Quiet pictureque town. if you like primitive warren kimball/charles wysocki type of painting, a local artist Cate Mandigo has her studio there. She paints local & regional scenes, very nice! up the road a little farther is Oscars, grab a hunk of cheese, hot mustard & some sausages and have a picnic along the banks of the Hudson. Yumm Yumm. The ADK park is beautiful any time of year. Enjoy!
