Welcome to the 2025 Edition of the Running Thread!

We talk all things running (and some things not!).. and of course, we throw in some Disney too.

ALL runners/walkers/wheelers are welcome to share, read, chat and encourage. We are a supportive community and welcome all to join! The group ranges from brand new runners to Boston Qualifiers & ultra-marathoners; there is a virtual seat for everyone- don't be shy to jump in!

We will post periodic "Questions of the Day" (QOTD) and encourage everyone to participate. Please also feel free to share upcoming races and post-race reports.

Without further ado.... let's get this thread running!

Let's do this!

Thought I'd get things started again. And to start the year off, thought I would go for a pictorial QOTD....

QOTD: Post a picture that provides a running/walking highlight of 2024. It can be a race, a place, a face (Okay this rhyming has got to stop). You don't have to be in the picture if you would prefer to remain reasonably anonymous. Animal shots are always welcome.:-)

I'll start.....Wine and Dine 5k--my first (and likely last) costume race. I'm the one dressed as "Muppet pre-show Gonzo--complete with flower pot. My friends were Swedish Chef and (Camilla) chicken. A good time was had by all.

ATTQOTD: My highlight is without a doubt running the Princess half marathon (my first) with one of my best “mom” friends. It was such a fun weekend to finally hang out with her in person after four years of talking almost daily via text, and our kids (two months apart) had a lot of fun together, too. Our castle photo came out exactly how I dreamed.

ATQOD: I guess Spring Time Surprise was the "highlight" of my running year. But this race was also where my arthritic rebuilt knee started getting too painful to deal with and forced me to get some early summer surgery to get it cleaned up. Allowed to start running again just in time to catch up to Dopey training schedule, so most of my 2024 running were "boring" training runs.

I also vowed not to do SS again.....but I'll be back running the 10 miler in April because my now adult son wanted to do his 1st RunDisney race.

ATTQOTD: Undoubtedly the running highlight of my 2024 was completing the Marathon Pour Tous as part of Paris 2024. Below is a photo of “the wall” that we ran up at mile 18. It’s admittedly not a very good photo, but it was a very memorable part of the race. The US broadcast team referred to this section as similar to the uphill of a roller coaster and it’s the best description I’ve heard. Absolutely brutal that far into a marathon, max grade of 13.5% and climb of 300 ft in less than a mile. But I survived, even if my legs needed a brief pep talk once we got to the top 😆

Running highlight of 2024 was finishing the DC Cherry Blossom 10 miler 2 minutes faster than my goal, and getting a corral A POT for wine and dine! Apparently I have no decent photos, and I wasn't about to pay $30 for an official photo when they all look terrible. So you get this, from the finish chute
