The Running Thread --2025

ATQOD: The highlight for me resulted in the worst picture taken of me running and possibly in my lifetime. I didn’t buy it but maybe I should have. Regardless, it was my proudest moment so far as I pushed as hard as I could to the finish line to finish 1:52 in the Fort Lauderdale HM. I was certain that the distance of the race was off and I didn’t know how that would affect my POT attempt, so I ran harder than I ever had in my life. The result is a picture that makes me look like I’m running for the bathroom instead of a finish line.

ATTQOTD: My 2024 running highlight is managing to pull off all 7 races in the back to back Coast to Coast Challenge in January. I was hospitalized for a week with pneumonia in early October 2023, so I had to start all over from on training in early November 2023. Thanks to @DopeyBadger knocking sense into me as needed and strongly discouraging me from excessive training, I pulled it off although I was very much done with running during the Disneyland Half. I reached a point where I knew I would finish, but chose to keep up my intervals instead of walking because that meant I would be done sooner.

Would I do back to back Coast to Coast again? It's really easy to say absolutely not, but then again I once vowed to never, ever, ever run a marathon and look where that got me.

ATTQOTD: My last full marathon was 2020, so I felt the need to "go the distance" before Dopey 2025. I did a local marathon in early November '24 with my run group and got 3rd in my AG (despite the very slow finish time)...lol there were only 3 in my AG :rotfl2:
I won my age group at a 5k the only way it would happen, by being the only one in it. Getting the medal, I was like, “oh gee, thanks I guess…”

ATTQOTD: Although I am under the impression that my 2024 was more muted in terms of running, I find myself having trouble to choose between many highlights! In the end, I chose the marathon of resilience and this picture in particular where the only local DISer I know appears behind DH and I. Happy 2025!

Is it too early in 2025 for shoes talks?

We went shopping yesterday. I tried:
Brooks Glycerin 21
Asics Gel-Nimbus 26
Mizuno Wave Rider 28
Hoka Clifton ?
New Balance 1080W14
Saucony Triumph 22

They all have rocking, not easy. Then I had trouble walking after changing gait so many times while not warmed up.

I settled for the Saucony. At least, if I ever get a toenail problem, it won’t be with the same shoes as before!

its never too early for shoe talk!

I follow a couple reddit groups who discuss shoe releases. I cannot wait until we start seeing some 2025 drops and new color ways for favorites.

the half marathon went surprisingly well for taking a few years off races (and highly intermittent running). i've now got a POT placing me in corral B.

with a baseline time established the next step is training for a March half. which is where decisions will have to be made.

if it seems there is a ceiling on my improvement WDW full is ready to go. BUT if it looks like a sub 4 effort is possible I've got to really consider the best way to tackle it.

also: grabbed second in my age group! (out of three).

I need to talk shoes too! I have not found a pair that works perfectly for me like my old Nike Lunar Flyknits did but they don't make them anymore. My toenail is still purple/discolored from my Nov 16 marathon! I have the Cliftons but use them for walking, they're just feel too heavy to run in. Are the Saucony's lighter compared to those?

All of these are considered high cushion so heavier shoes.
