The Running Thread--2024

Today is good as any day for another round of the QOTD: What time of day you get to run and why?

ATTQOTD: Most of my runs start between 5:30 and 6:00 AM. I spend probably 45-60 minutes getting out of bed and myself and pup ready each morning for our runs. I picked early morning for two main reasons. 1. The asphalt / roadways are cool enough for my dog to run on them. 2. It improves me family life to run when they are sleeping instead of the evenings when homework, dinner, bath times, ect are taking place. I've grown to enjoy my morning runs!

ATTQOTD: All over the place, honestly. I am lucky to work from home and most of my runs are treadmill runs, so it really depends on my meeting schedule during the week. I try to get them in before lunch, though, since afternoons easily get away from me and I'm terrible at making time when things are busy. Most end up being around 11am or so. On weekends, I usually get to them by early afternoon, especially Sunday runs during NFL season when I can watch games during my long run.

ATTQOTD:
During the week, 5 am, and Saturdays 6 (or earlier) or 7 - depending on how far I have to run.
5 am - it is cooler. I get the run done. If I wait until after work, there is a higher likelihood that I would bail on the run.
Saturdays, my running group starts at 7. If I have a lot of extra miles, I will start earlier and then meet the group at 7.

ATTQOTD: During the week my runs are typically done after work between 5p and 7p. It's far from ideal, especially this time of year, but when my shortest weekday runs are 6 miles (and may go as long as 12 miles), I'm not getting up early enough to get them in before work. On the weekends it depends on the season and Arsenal FC's match schedule. During the summer I try to get out the door by 7:30-8a and during the winter it's usually more like 2-3p. I plan them around Arsenal's match schedule, though, so it can definitely move around.

ATTQOTD I was exactly 7:30am a couple years ago but that has not been as exact after rescuing our pup a year and a half ago. Sometimes she likes to take her time getting up and going out. I try to keep to it but some days get closer to 8, and on rare occasions 8:30 or so. I’ve tried evenings but really prefer running on my coffee and light snack as well as before a full day of whatever I’m working on. The weather seems better earlier as well.

I'm also mostly on the treadmill during the week, and if I have to use it on Sundays, I put on the Premier League. My team is playing one of their historical rivals this Sunday, though the rivalry has lost some punch since that team hasn't been as good for 10+ years now.

ATTQOTD: During the work week, I have started running before getting my son ready for daycare in the morning. My alarm goes off at 6 and I'm out the door by 6:45. My goal is to be out the door by 6:30. I go back home at 7:30 and get my son ready for school, then I walk the dog while my husband drives him to school. I sometimes do video strength workouts during the day.

If I run on the weekends, I run as early as possible after I wake up naturally. My long runs for marathon training will be on Sunday and I hope to be out the door by 8. If it's too hot, I'll do the treadmill until it cools down. I just cannot bring myself to wake up before sunrise on the weekend to run yet. :P

ATTQOTD: I always run in the morning, usually starting between 7-8. I am an early riser and that lets me have coffee in bed followed by oatmeal before my run. Heavy meals/protein before a run don’t sit well for me so I have my routine and stick to it.

ATTQOTD:
I'm a midday-to-evening runner. This started because I would tread during naptimes, and has continued because I am not an early-early morning person, and in order to run in the morning (before DH went to work, so someone is home with the kids) I would have to get up at 5am. Nope. Not happening.

If it's going to be super hot on the weekends, I'll try to get out the door by 9 or 10am and just deal with the heat. Or I'll wait and go after 8pm. And if all else fails, just on the treadmill midday.

ATTQOTD: more times than not, I’m NOT running when I actually want to, either thanks to my work schedule or the weather. In summer, it’s a combination of Way Too Early sunrise runs to get it in before work and while it’s not heatstroke-hot plus some treadmill runs when I just can’t get myself up that early. The rest of the year my preference is to run after work before dinner on weekdays and a more sane 8-9am on weekends.

ATTQOTD: My dog likes to go out around 5:30/6, and if I got up earlier, he would just think he should go out earlier 🙄 That means running has to wait, and between the walk, breakfast, and my warmup, I usually get out around 8 or 8:30. Earlier would be ideal in the summer, since the sun is already high enough to be heating things up quickly at that point, but even if I compressed things as much as possible, I'm still not willing to wake up at 3:30 so I can get out at 5.

Fortunately I work from home and my hours are pretty flexible, so if I don't get back until 10 it's not a big deal. I've found I prefer running in the morning and working in the afternoon/evening if possible.

ATTQOTD: During the week, I usually start my run between 6 and 6:30. Unfortunately, that is now starting to be in the dark. I usually get up between 5 and 5:30. I take my dog out, go through a stretching routine and then get dressed for my run. I'm usually out the door ~1 hour after waking up. If I have a longer or harder run, I can usually eat a piece of bread with peanut butter as soon as I get up and not have it impact my run. But generally, I don't like to eat before I run.

On the weekends -- as long as I don't have anything going on -- I will typically start my run between 7 and 8. If I have something going on, then I continue with my early mornings.

I don't know how people run in the afternoon/evening. It would be a mental struggle for me to gear up for a run after work. I can do it on occasion when my schedule or the weather dictates, but I greatly prefer the mornings.

Am I NOT a morning person. I go out in the evenings after work. During Spring and mid-summer its usually around 7-7:30. Now I aim to get out the door by 6:30 to start warming up (I'm trying to be better about this to avoid becoming the walking wounded) and then back home by 8:00 for stretching. I'll adjust that a little earlier if I can after the time changes in November, but it's still evenings for me.

I just don't feel loose enough in the mornings to get up and out the door, nor do I want to. Evenings allow me to do anything I need to during the day without feeling rushed to get back and get ready for work.

Hi! New to posting on this thread but have been lurking for a while!
ATTQOTD: I'm a first thing in the morning person, but on weekdays need be finishing up by 6am to get to work on time. So, wake up time depends on how log my run for the day is (usually between 430&5am). Some of my easy run days I do at lunch and suffer through the heat. Long runs on weekends I try to start so that I can be done between 8&9am because southern Georgia, enough said haha.

ATTQOTD: My runs during the week are around 11am/noon. After work each day I usually head straight to the baseball facility and I am there until 8pm or 9pm. Some nights I go swim afterward. So by the time my evening winds down, I have no desire to go run. Then in the mornings, I am so tired from the night before, that getting up early to run is not an option. So lunch time and battling the heat it is. During the weekends, I usually try to get out the door no later than 8am. If it is going to be a long run, I try to be out the door by 7am.

I’m a very early morning person.. I do the training from 4 to 530/6am depending on what needs to be done.. strength + run + stretch

I have tried splitting in two and do something in afternoons but it requires too much willpower … then I just move alarm earlier and earlier if needed :)

ATTQOTD: This makes me realize how much I adapted to running with someone else (DH), to kids that are now old teenagers and to working from home.

Pre-2020 I would go run alone before everyone would wake up, then get ready and commute downtown. Or run on the mountain at lunch downtown.

Now, during the week, most runs are from home at lunch or after work or sometimes at night during DD running club. And whenever on the weekends. School started today… Maybe my schedule will regain some normality. :faint:

In summer I like very early runs. Now that school is back in session, I was trying to run after taking my daughter to school. Unfortunately, I am still rehabbing my psoas, so it’s no running at all
