The Running Thread - 2016

Have fun and stay safe during your travels! I hope you'll come back and tell us how you like the Disney parks in Asia!!

Of course!! I've actually been to all the Disney parks in the world (except Shanghai). It's been six or seven years since I've hit Tokyo and HK, so while we're in the neighborhood to see Shanghai, we just decided to revisit them. Super excited and I'll definitely report back!

QOTD: With a new month comes new goals. What are your running goals for November?

Finish the marathon on Saturday before midnight. I don't plan on doing much running for the rest of the month.

ATTQOTD - My goals for the month are to PR in the Richmond Marathon by getting under 4 hours then continue training for the 50k.

I love the Richmond marathon. Great course & good spectator support too.

@Keels i think you'll be okay watching some or all of Gameday. I'll be out of visual range from 9am to 4pm. My dad is planning to go watch football.

Yes you did :)

Yay!! What did they say!??!?!?

Your Dad has the right idea.

Michelle one of the hosts gives shout outs every week to listeners. She had a post on Facebook that said we are recording our show in 15 minutes who wants a shout out?! I didn't hesitate.

It's right at the beginning of the episode and she just says my name not a whole lot too it really.

Richmond is all I really know. When I talk to others who have done other races, I'm always reminded how lucky I am to have this race as my home race. I'm going to miss our couple of wet washcloth stops to wipe the salt and sweat off and all the food provided by the race and spectators.

October totals:
Miles - 142.57
Time - 25.27 Hrs. or 25:16:12
Avg. Pace - approx. 10:38 (Math! Does Map My Run, free version, give average monthly pace anywhere?)
I met and surpassed my goal to run 130 miles, even though I have a horrible cold right now.

November goals:
1. Complete Avengers races (5k, challenge, and Coast to Coast!) and Atlanta Thanksgiving Day 1/2 marathon (completes Atlanta's Triple Peach challenge)
2. Run 130 miles again in November.
3. Continue training for my first Dopey. (Complete long runs of 20 and 23 miles in November)
4. Stay healthy and injury free.

Congratulations on all the training runs/races completed in October, everybody. Whether it was 2 miles or 200, we were out there! Neither sickness, injury, family responsibilities, work, college, nor other challenges could stop DisRunners!

My October totals were:

13 P90X workouts
17.93 hours on the bike.

I fell short of my goal of every other day for P90X and 20 hours on the bike but I was on target for both until the screw came out of my foot. I had to take about 5 days off from that procedure.

I can't figure out my goals for November because I started back to work today and I know that will take a toll on my body so I need to be realistic. I also need to start working on the elliptical mid month.

I'll shoot for 13 more P90X workouts, 10 hours on the bike, and 6 hours of the elliptical.

I am about 2 months from running finally. It feels far away but much closer than it was.

ATTQOTD: November goals are to stay healthy and run a great marathon on 11/13. I've been practicing running s-l-o-w-e-r so that I can run faster since May.
Will this finally be the marathon that I can stay strong and get a good result or will it be another one where somewhere around mile 16 I say to myself "NEVER again." Maybe # 7 will be lucky for me.

Depending on the outcome, I may take some time off and scale back quite a bit OR
jump right into training for an early March marathon.

Good luck everyone with your November plans.

QOTD: What is your longest midweek training run you have ever done that did not count as your long run?

ATTQOTD: 13.1 miles on a treadmill. 2 hours on the TM is not very fun, but at least i have a TV to watch.

Question for fun: How much of you kids candy have you eaten since trick or treat? More than i am proud of...

ATTQOTD: My longest midweek run to date was 4.5 miles, I don't like to do runs longer than an hour during the week because I would be running in the dark.

Question for fun: How much of you kids candy have you eaten since trick or treat? More than i am proud of...
It's called the mom tax (I accept payment in the form of peanut butter cups or snickers) and yes way more than I am proud of. I am going to be stronger today!

The longest midweek training run that did NOT count as my long run has been a 9 mile tempo run. I did that multiple times on my current training plan. I did have to run a midweek 14 miler in September when I rearranged the training plan to accommodate a WDW trip, but it counted as my long run for the week. Talk about killing an evening, though!

My kids are 18 and 23 now, so no more candy tax for me! :sad1:

ATTQOTD - Yesterday: Goals for November are to have a super awesome time running the Lumiere's Challenge this week! Then to get my marathon training cycle off to a strong start.

ATTQOTD - Today: I think the longest midweek non-long run I've done is 5 miles. My new training plan goes up to 8 miles, so that will be a new challenge (to find the time more than anything else).

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you see your name, or what should be your screen name, but I somehow input it incorrectly, please let me know so I can fix it. If you have multiple races I will only tag the first race so you don't have multiple notices. I apologize for what appears to be many typos on my part.

Good luck to everyone with your race / races this weekend. I look forward to hearing how it all goes! If you would like to revise your goal for your race this weekend, just let me know and I will make the changes. Also, if I somehow missed your race results from last week or previous weeks, I would be more than happy to update the list if you would like to share you finish time with us. Thanks and good luck!

QOTD: What is your longest midweek training run you have ever done that did not count as your long run?

I've done 14 miles (2 hours) on several occassions on a Thursday. During the last cycle it was 11 miles at marathon tempo with a 1.5 mile warm up and 1.5 mile cool down. This cycle I'm taking a step back and doing 10 miles tempo and 2+2 on wu and cd.

Bonus question - I have only eaten one piece of G's candy.

Best of luck to all the racers this weekend. Have fun on your victory lap! :car:
