The Running Thread - 2016

ATTQOTD: Just a 5 mile run tomorrow. (OMG, I can't believe 5 miles is a short run for me now, JUST 5 miles??? lol! :rotfl2:)
You took the thoughts right out of my head!

I do have a treadmill tempo run tonight after work. 7 miles (but the hard part only in the middle)
And then Sunday my last long run is probably almost certainly happening on the lake shore path in Chicago since we have to be down there for an event later that day. Come on nice weather! And I get to do it easy pace instead of long run pace per my taper plan. Everyone mentally shout at me to slow down because the fresh air may try to do speedy things to me!

I've been having a lot of knee pain so I've been resting it this week since last weekend's long run did not feel good. Sunday will be my return to running :) It is 6 miles on the training plan since it was a cutback week for the long run anyway. I'm planning on exploring a new trail with a friend so I'm looking forward to it. Today and tomorrow is yoga.

ATTYQOTD:

Yep - this is me. And I also manage social media for a living. When you're on there 90% of the time anyway, it just becomes part of the routine.

ATTQOTD: This weekend I have a HUGE event for work, but it's at running-friendly park. I've got my running stuff packed up with me to take today so I can get my short run in after setup. Sunday is my first "long" run on the @DopeyBadger plan - 5 miles!
Did he password protect the long run cells, or are you able to manually adjust some of the later, more insane distances to something more manageable?

Lake Powell is on the Arizona/Utah border. It's the Colorado River upstream of the Grand Canyon, formed by the Glen Canyon Dam in the cute little town of Page, Arizona. It's 4 and half incredibly scenic hours from just about anything - we flew into Vegas and drove through the Virgin River Gorge and Zion National Park and past Grand Staircase - Escalante Monument to get there. It's hard keeping the car on the road because all you want to do is marvel at the scenery. The course winds through town before turning onto a 2 mile trail overlooking the lake (where I took the picture of my daughter) and then drops you steeply down to the bridge next to the dam (and high above the Colorado River gorge). After a bit of a climb you wind down a National Park road to the finish at a lakeside resort and marina. I'm attaching pics of the dam and bridge, the view of the gorge from the bridge, the view of the course looking from Page down to the lake and the finish at the marina (there is a road in there somewhere), and me and my lovely bride at mile 13 approaching the finish.

Very cool. Thanks @jhorstma for the details and pics. Really looks like a nice trip and event.
Have to put it on the "bucket list."

Totally understand about keeping the car on the road, many times we have been to Colorado, Arizona, Utah, Wyoming, etc., and my driving becomes suspect because I'm too busy looking out the window at the scenery or taking pictures.

But what if it was, like, a REALLY good apple??
I mean it could be. I feel like I would be posting about an apple if it looked like this:

QOTD: What are your running plans for the weekend?
Going to pick up my packet at the expo tomorrow then 10 miles on Sunday.

QOTD: What are your running plans for the weekend?

Cooler temps, wind and rain forecast for this weekend.
Have a 7 mile run for Saturday and a HM + 2 miles on Sunday that will be my scheduled Long Run for this week.
The challenge will be to maintain slow and steady pace per my training plan and not deviate with an all out crazy man effort.
Sounds easy but yesterday I was doing my slowest run of the week and saw somebody I knew ahead of me and HAD TO CATCH UP AND PASS THEM!!!

ATTQOTD: Ran an 8 mile tempo run this morning. Have a 6 mile run with my rD training group tomorrow morning, then a 20 mile easy run on Sunday. Hope that I can get in the whole 20 miles on Sunday - will be at a band competition until after midnight tomorrow night, then the hour+ ride home. I guess that I can consider the sleep deprivation part of my rD training. :worried:

ATTQOTD: Did 7 this morning, and the cool front that came through yesterday made it feel pretty darn nice. 12 to 13 on Saturday, and 10 to 11 on Sunday. Should be two more spectacular mornings for running. This is the weather we needed last weekend!

I agree with that! Also thinking of weather... is it to early to start the weather watch discussion for WDW marathon weekend? lol

Wow, PW protecting the LR schedule. I don't know why but I LOL at seeing myself looking at a plan and going "I don't really need that 20 miler that day, lets make it 18.... wait! whats this!!!! Then the screen pops up with @DopeyBadger NO NO NO! Maybe this is just funnier in my head.

ATTQOTD: I am running marathon #2 in my hometown of Grand Rapids, MI and the nervousness from earlier this week has been replaced with excitement. :D

You got this! I still get nervous about a 5k that ive worked hard for. Your nervous because you've worked hard and you will be just fine! Enjoy the home crowd, grab a few sips of beer around miles 20 - 23, it sounds crazy, but after 20 miles of H20 and sports drink, a sip of beer is cold, fully of carbs, and taste surprisingly refreshing. The only down side is the carbonation...

Social media question: I am only on Instagram. I will post race pics and maybe something cool or funny I see on a long run but don't post on regular runs.

I have a 14 mile run to look forward to this weekend. The weather looks like it is going to be awesome. I am now getting into the "I have never run this far" part of my training so it's exciting and intimidating at the same time. Hoping the weather cools off like it's supposed to and continues to stay cool from this point on!

Too trusting... I make the plans in excel, but I only send people a PDF version. :D (It's because Disboards doesn't accept a .xlsx file, (At least that's what I tell people...))

LOL, this is what popped in my head...

QOTD: What are your running plans for the weekend?

Well on the schedule I've got 6 miles easy on Sat and 8 miles at long run pace (MP + 40 seconds). However, I just started running again last Sunday after a two week rest after the marathon and I'm not liking where my recovery is at. So I may or may not switch the 8 miles at LR to something less dependent on how Fri/Sat go. I had hoped to feel a little better than I do now, but I must have really pushed hard during the marathon because I'm still sore. I may need a few weeks of just easy running, we'll see how the next few days progress. Plus, I still have this whole "cloudy" x-ray and possible bone spur/stress fracture/old injury/calcium deposit/tumor/bone cancer thing hanging over my head. The MRI was suppose to be next Tuesday, but now it's Monday the 31st... Still holding onto the fact that the odds are greatly in my favor.

QOTD: What are your running plans for the weekend?
3 tonight, 8 tomorrow, 16 Sunday: deep into W&D/Dopey training. And.... a cold front is blowing in RIGHT NOW!!!!! Morning temps in the low 60s at last and just in time for all of these miles! I'm absolutely giddy with excitement! (My last back to back to back weekend involved overnight lows in the mid-70s and Feels Likes upwards of 90 - 60 is going to feel mighty chilly at this point!)
