The Running Thread - 2016

@LSUlakes I have some race updates. I'm no longer planning on running the Twin Cities Marathon on 10/9, but am adding the following:

Oct 22 - surfde22 - Hot Cider Hustle Half Marathon (NG / N/A)

128 miles for July (training for Wine & Dine Lumiere's Challege, highest mileage since I injured myself last Fall, which flared up yesterday on a day off, what give's with that?!?! I've been super careful building slow, but sat too much yesterday I think, wompwomp)

OLYMPICS are one of my favorite things...I will watch anything I can. Favorites are of course swimming & track/marathon, but I love even the rowing, kayaking, fenching...doesn't matter I'll watch it. Gymnastics of course too, makes me nervous watching them. The DVR will be working overtime. I even enjoy the side stories on athletes.

I use a free app called IntervalTimer. You can set your intervals and have a different sound for each (I like the boxing bell sound when it's time to run). :) And then I also play Spotify music and also use the Nike app to log the runs. I've got a lot running at once on my iPhone!
I think that's the same one I used before I got my Garmin. The thing I didn't like about it was that when my kids would call me it would stop the intervals from beeping at me even after the call was finished. I had to take the phone out of my flip belt and reopen the app to start the beeps again :)

QOTD: With the Olympic games starting this month, what event are you looking forward to watching the most?

I love, love, love the Olympics! I would definitely say that women's gymnastics is what I am most excited to watch, followed by track and field, and swimming. But the beauty of NBC's coverage of the Olympics is all of those sappy "human interest stories" about the athletes! That will get me hooked into whatever sport the featured athlete is competing in. Long live Bob Costas!

Oh and 53.4 miles for July! I know it doesn't sound like much, but it's an improvement from June so I'll take it gladly!

QOTD: With the Olympic games starting this month, what event are you looking forward to watching the most?

I love the Olympics! My favorite events are luge, ice hockey, curling and bobsled! Wait, what do you mean it's not that kind of Olympics?!?!

I guess it's water polo, team handball and field hockey for me, then...

QOTD: With the Olympic games starting this month, what event are you looking forward to watching the most?

I love watching the Olympics. Probably looking most forward to the swimming events. Gymnastics, beach volleyball, and long distance running events have also become something that try to make time to watch if we can. Excited to see how Rupp will perform after having watched him run the LA marathon and the Olympic trials.

@Baloo in MI Awesome pace for your daughter! That is so cool that she wants to run with you. I haven't been able to convince any of my kids to run with me yet.

July monthly total: 92.1 miles - darn, if I hadn't cut a few runs short because of the heat & humidity, I might have broken 100.

ATTQOTD: I have always loved watching the Olympics ever since I can remember. My favorites are gymnastics, swimming, and track/running. I'm a little disappointed I booked a camping trip during the Olympics. I hope our antenna can pick up NBC up in the UP.

July Training Summary
Total Miles: 72.7 miles
Total Time: 10:45:09
Average Pace: 8:53/mi
Average HR: 143/min

Well... it's only 43% of the planned miles, so not a very good story, but I have been injured (right hip) since July 10th, so haven't posted many miles for the past three weeks. Saw a sports medicine doc this morning: x-ray was clear, and his diagnosis was bursitis with related tendonitis. He gave me a cortisone injection and recommended PT. The good news is that I'm cleared to run! I hope to work back up to a training program soon. Need to find a new goal race, but I first have to figure out how long of a rebuilding phase is needed before I can start a new training cycle. I have my coach working on that.

Accordingly, @LSUlakes, my planned goal half marathon will likely now just be a training run, so please remove my goal time from page 1 as such...
October 23 - opusone - Naperville Half Marathon (training run / N/A)
Thanks!!

October 23 - opusone - Naperville Half Marathon (training run / N/A)
Thanks!!

My family will be in Naperville this weekend for the Triathlon at Centennial Beach! I'm rubbish at swimming so I'll be a pit-crew member for my hubby. Aka...I'm holding his phone and wallet and taking pictures.
I've been interested in that half marathon for some day in the future. Maybe next year? Looking forward to hearing how you like it.

ATTQOTD: I TiVo everything... and I literally mean everything. I have a OnePass set up to record all broadcasts of non-repeat content (so I won't get the early morning rebroadcasts) on all of the NBC channels. I will watch pretty much all of it, including the fluff pieces, except for the early group play on the sports that take the entire time like soccer/basketball/volleyball. Those I will usually only watch near the end. I have to draw some lines with my time. :D My newer TiVo has a feature called QuickMode which plays it 30% faster, but corrects the audio so that it doesn't sound too weird. That will help me get through the sports like rowing or the longer distance swimming/track events a bit more quickly where there's not as much detail to focus on (as opposed to something like gymnastics).

Total Milage for July was 213.2 And I only played Pokemon go during about 20 of them.

Hah! I've tried to have mine going while running but have run into a lot of issues with the screenlocking even when in battery saving mode and the game crashing as a result. Definitely far more success with my walks than my runs.

TBA - @IamTrike - Medoc Trail Marathon (NG / N/A)
TBA - Iamtrike - Peak to Creek Marathon (3:12:00 / N/A)
TBA - @derekleigh - Meredith Bay Trick of Trot 5K (21:30 / N/A)(or sub 7:00 pace)

Any updates on these events listed above as far as dates? TIA

ATTQOTD: I like a lot of it! Always a fan of gymnastics, most track & field, table tennis, volleyball (both), boxing, diving, swimming, cycling track, and rowing. I'm sure I'm missing something, and I'll tune in for all kinds of stuff. I will be tuning in for marathon and triathlon for the first time this year, as I am more connected to them.

July Totals
Running Miles: 78.8
Running Time: 13.2 hrs

QOTD: With the Olympic games starting this month, what event are you looking forward to watching the most?

ATTQOTD: Can't wait to watch women's gymnastics. It has always been a favorite of mine. Track & Field is a close second.
