The Running Thread - 2016

So - not *technically* running related, but in a roundabout way it ultimately is.

I've got an interview for a job tomorrow. That's right, I may leave the ranks of the retired!

If y'all can keep your fingers crossed that I can actually remember how to interview, that would be great ...

Sending lots of pixie dust your way ~~~~

First, good luck to everyone who's running this weekend and to @Keels on her interview! It looks like it should be cooler (at least here) for running so hopefully you have good temperatures where you are too!

@LSUlakes Can you put me down for a summer race in July:
26 - Anisum - Run the Vineyards Rock the Night Away 5k (39:00 / N/A)

I might go lower once it gets closer but given the heat for that time of year and that it's a night time race I don't want to stretch myself too thin.

I also have an 8k in September:
18 - Anisum - Run the Vineyards Fall Trail 8k (59:59 / N/A)

QOTD: What is your next goal race?
My goal in every race is to finish!! That being said I would love to finish the Wineglass Half in under an 3 hours. According to my 10mi time and McMillan running I should be able to do in in 2:46:50 but it will be the first half marathon I've run alone and it will also be the first I've run the entire thing (at Disney I run with my friends who are run-walk-runners) so the run will be very different from previous halfs. I'm also going to be driving to the Corning area in the middle of the night to get to the race on time (though I'll be switching off with another driver) due to a family event so I'm not certain how that will affect me. I think it will depend partly on the course so we'll see how it goes.

QOTD: What is your next goal race?

I would finally like to breakthrough the 7:00 minute/mile pace on my 5K. I got close last year with a 7:02 MM and this year I'd like to hit a solid sub-7:00 minute mile. I have two 5Ks later this year, one of which is the race I'm gunning for the PR.

A second goal would be to hit another half PR. I'm running the RnR Half - Vegas and would like to hit a PR there as well. I'll be running that half by feel however as its my first trip to Vegas and who knows how the factors play in.

I wish you luck Keels but won't this impact your month long trips to WDW?

Also, I would like to wish everyone who has a race this weekend good luck as well!

ATTQOTD: I don't have a specific race yet but I am looking for a 10 miler or half for September and the goal will be a better POT for Marathon Weekend.

QOTD: If you could go out for a run (distance not important here) with anyone dead or alive who would it be and why?

ATTQOTD: Dave McGillivray (Race Director of the Boston Marathon). Because I would love to hear stories about what it takes to get everything together for so a major race and I am sure he has some very interesting stories. Not the most exciting answer I know...

Looking forward to reading everyone's response to this one!

ATTQOTD: This one was easy. I'd pick my Dad. He is alive and well but has really bad knee and leg issues that side-lined his running career a long time ago. When I was in grade-school and younger he was part of running clubs in Indianapolis and my older sister and him would run races together all the time. I was so little that I'd often be the one my mom was walking around with while they ran. I have lots of memories of being at race events and stealing his free t-shirts for giant pajamas. Now that I've finally caught the run bug all these years later it would be cool to run with my dad again, but I don't think that's in the cards.

Outer Banks Marathon in November. Going to set a new PR!

Good luck at the Outer Banks Marathon! That's the one I really wanted to run this fall, but with all the money I've spent on runDisney, I couldn't justify the trip costs when I can just roll out of bed and drive 20 minutes to the start of the City of Oaks Marathon.

QOTD: If you could go out for a run (distance not important here) with anyone dead or alive who would it be and why?

For a run it would be my dog Kiddo. She was only five years old when she got inoperable cancer a couple years ago. As a Miniature Australian Shepherd she loved to run, jump, play and do basically anything outdoors; but I was still really uncomfortable running outside and never actually took her on a run with me. I still regret it and know she would have loved going with me, even if she would have wanted to run so much faster than I am capable. I know of no one who would love running with me more than her and perhaps people would prefer being in my golf foursome or my dinner guests.

Darn allergies making it get all misty in here. Gonna make me go have to get some sunglasses.

So this is totally random, but my first thought was Oprah when she was training for that marathon she ran in 90s. I know some people get bugged by her, but I am an Oprah fan! I think she would be super inspiring to run with. Especially at that point in her life, because she had made so many healthy changes. Oh! And I would probably get to run with Bob Greene too since he was like her trainer or something, and I really like him!

I heard about the Nike thing this morning too. Boo :( They had a DC half in 2014 but I had just started running and wasn't ready for that distance. I promised myself I would do it in 2015 but they didn't have it in DC that year. I thought about Atlanta this year but I guess that's off the table now too.

I'll keep my goal for this weekend's 10k but I don't know if I'm going to hit it given the hot weather forecasted. We'll see what happens.

My next goal race is the Army 10 miler in October since it should be cooler by then. Though I hear it's a pretty crowded course. I'm excited to give it a try anyway :)

My wife, with Coach Saban a close second and Coach Bryant a close third. Roll Tide!

If LSU only wins one game this year and that win is against bama, I would be satisfied with the season. My BIL worked with Saban @ LSU and said the guy is a great coach but a ____Insert not nice word. Could be part of the reason he is a great coach. BTW, the LSU v/s Bama game this year is on my birthday and a home game!
