Just signed up for a 12-week "summer" race series with a local run club. Starts next Thursday night! 12 weeks of a 5K every Thursday night - it's going to be fun, but it's also going to be HOTHOTHOTHOTHOT. I'm hoping that helps my conditioning, though, so ... bonus?
The guy that runs this run club was also the chairman of our local big Marathon Weekend and he does quite a few other smaller events. I'm going to start working with him for local run events (planning, communication, execution) in an effort to get a feel for what goes into organizing races (I'd love to do this for a living one day!) - and in exchange, he's going to coach me once a week in speed/track workouts.
Today is a high of 89F and I didn't look ahead so I could plan a run this morning. It's gonna be hot!
I just love starting a run at 4:30am and the temp is already 78.Yuck, was it a wet sloggy mess this morning.

QOTD: When at Disney, but not for a running event, what are some good running routes you have run or heard of? Can you run on the shoulder of roads?
Yesterday it actually got up to 90° here in Canada and more of the same today. I ran in snow a week agoToday is a high of 89F and I didn't look ahead so I could plan a run this morning. It's gonna be hot!

Of the places we have stayed at the best route I have found is the Old Key West/LBV Golf Course/Saratoga Springs/Disney Springs link-up. It's a good long stretch with plenty of sights to see...I only recommend adding in Disney Springs early in the morning as it is too busy to run there any other time. Last time I ran there was mid-day and it was smokin' hot...I actually raced one of the groundskeepers at the golf course for a little stretch, she was driving her tractor and came up behind me while I was running an interval so we decided to race. We were both laughing pretty hard afterwards. Okay, she was laughing...I was trying not to puke! I ended that run by jumping in the pool with the kids at OKW, a great way to finish up a hot run!QOTD: When at Disney, but not for a running event, what are some good running routes you have run or heard of? Oh good, I'm not the only one that runs on the outlawed back road at AKLQOTD: When at Disney, but not for a running event, what are some good running routes you have run or heard of? Can you run on the shoulder of roads?
ATTQOTD: I love running around CBR - pretty, mostly shaded in the early morning, long enough that it only takes a few loops to cobble together a decent run. For long runs, I've done the Boardwalk/path to DHS/outer EP resorts loop a bunch of times - good for very early mornings, but gets a little too traffic-y for my taste by 8am. SSR is good for running, especially combined with DSprings, and I had a really great run in "Germany" on the fancy treadmill at SSR's fitness center. Combining POR and POFQ can be nice, too. I've run the back road at AKL that you're not supposed to be on - that was neat! Loved running WL to FW and back.
Nope, other than that little stretch of the outer EP resorts loop that has no sidewalk, no way will I run on WDW roads - I don't trust tourists behind the wheel!![]()
Yes I did! I got an awesome one and had a ring made out of it. Felt uber bad for the little guy; pretty sure they toss the oysters. Too much contamination at that point to feed to guests I would assume! Of course, I eat steamed oysters by the dozen like they are going out of style, so lol I guess I only felt bad wasting it.

It's a little slice of quiet, non-Disney heaven, isn't it?!Oh good, I'm not the only one that runs on the outlawed back road at AKL![]()
Oh ya, for sure...I remember wondering the first time I ran it if I could find a spot to sneak through somewhere to Orange Lake Resort and run through there to the nice wide sidewalks of 192. There might be a way but I never found it. Like you, there's NO WAY I'm running on the shoulders of the roads at Disney. It's a little slice of quiet, non-Disney heaven, isn't it?!
