QOTD: What is your total mileage for March?
I'm going to be honest and say I haven't run much at all in March. It's been a very busy month. The weather has also been bad which doesn't help. I'm hoping it starts to warm up soon. I also don't have a race in my near or distant future to keep me motivated.

This is possibly dumb question. So not even QOTD worthy. I have a race where the weather is not going to be freezing, but not warm either. I already know I'm going longer capri's on my lower half because full pants will be too warm. But I have a conundrum for my upper half. Let's say I want to wear a long sleeve pullover and then take it off mid-race if I get warm. What do I do about my number pinned to my front?
Is the simplest answer to buy those sleeve arm things tonight at the race expo and wear them with short sleeve shirt?
Or is the simpler answer to just wear the short sleeve and bring a throwaway sweatshirt and just run in the short sleeves off the bat?

Weather is 35 degrees and cloudy. Distance is 5 miles. Thank you for easing all my anxiety.

I like the wicking sleeves for warmth. I just peel them off when I get warmed up and stick them in my pocket for the rest of the race.

Caitie and I are both layer and tie around our waist folks.

I've donated several pre race shirts, but on cold runs, I just tie it around my waist ... Knowing I'll want it in a few hours.

Pin the bib to your capris.

I'd pin to my capris. I did a turkey trot last year in similar conditions and pinned them to my capris, not because I was planning to take the shirt off, but because I didn't want to put pin holes in my W&D long sleeve tech shirt. Which ended up getting snags on the sleeve anyway after I lightly brushed up against a bush. :worried:

Completely understand Ryan...I just had enough of the cold weather in March and was ready for it to be DONE.

I wear arm sleeves, they roll down (or off completely) easily enough. One other option is to use a race belt instead of pins, then you can shed your top layer without losing your bib...I think I remember you saying the Hubby is a triathlete, so he might have one kicking around.

Well I'm in high school so my parents help a bit. Otherwise I work for some friends of ours who own a company selling roasted nuts (yes the candied sugar kind) so I work for them at our local baseball stadium (Miller park) and local basketball/hockey arena (the Bradley center).

That is awesome! I would weigh 400 pounds though. I can't stop eating those, so they cannot come in my house very often.

QOTD: What is your total mileage for March?

ATTQOTD: Another not so impressive month for myself with a total around 54 miles. The struggle is real.

Zero for me. :(

I love this thread!!!

Questions I have for you fellow runners would be about hydration, mostly.

During the Princess Half, I was so worried about the long port-a-potty lines, that I failed to properly hydrate myself. This resulted in me not finishing strong and being horribly dehydrated for at least an hour afterwards. Thank goodness my DH is a dive medic (and I knew the signs of dehydration myself) and took care of me. (This is TMI; but I also did a #2 like 6 times! Not a good time!)

So, for my next runs I'd like to have my body prepared better! I've read tons of articles on nutrition and running but I'd like to know what works best for YOU all here.

Note to add: I am a female and have birthed two children! The female bladder undergoes some serious shenanigans during pregnancy. Our bladders get flattened about to the size of a pancake, hence the reason pregnant women must urinate so often. It doesn't bounce back to its perfect original design afterward, lol, unfortunately, so it's quite annoying to have to always use the loo during runs & races.

Bah Humbug.

What's my solution?
Suck it up, Buttercup, & keep drinking water and having to go all the time? Lol. Idk.

I start hydrating several days before (though it's not usually much work for me, since I drink a ton of water all the time). I sweat so much, I never have to go to the bathroom though!

Honestly, I get really hot, really fast, so I usually just suffer through it. If I do wear long sleeves, I wear a jacket. I don't want to mess with a pullover while I'm running.

47.35 miles of running and walking. That doesn't include my yoga and Pilates workouts. I cold get in more if my old man dog didn't have to be dragged after a quarter mile.

I get up early and do P90X, then give myself 15 minutes to recover while drinking about 4 oz of Gatorade, then change into my running gear and head out the door for my run. I don't do more than 1 legs routine/week when running. I alternate Plyo and Legs/Back, one each week.

Keep in mind that I have been doing P90X for a decade (about 6 months out of each year), and running for 3 decades (continuously, if not injured). My body is used to it. But at 49 years old, they both get harder and harder.

Wow, I wish I could get up that early. I would have to be up by 4am to get it all in before I had to get the kids up and ready for school. As far as the leg workouts, I am not as worried about those as I plan to add the bike back into my workouts now that temps are warming up. But, I have also thought about P90X3 as I think it is more focused on what I need the most, core work. I just can't seem to get into it. I like the original best. Have you tried X3?

My response will be similar to others. I hydrate BEFORE the race. I just don't do it the day before. I start a week before my scheduled race and I drink water all day. I also increase my salt intake as it helps retain the water in the cells more. I have read a lot about this and heard Jeff Galloway and Tara Guidus (runDisney nutritionist) on the Mickey Miles podcast and they both said to start days before the race. If properly hydrated before the race then all you need (depending on the conditions) during the race is a couple ounces of water per mile.

I vote for pinning the bib to your capris.

QOTD: My mileage is pathetic, especially compared to some of the numbers on here. But I am at 30 miles for March. My whole house has been sick off and on all month. As it is my last couple of runs were with me and my head cold. But, I have no fever so I sucked it up.

But this goes back to a QOTD from last week I believe when we talked about motivation and I said I had forced motivation. For my annual mileage goal I needed to average 106.08 miles a month. I clearly didn't hit it last month so it brings up my average for the rest of the year. Now I need to really get my butt in gear to prevent the numbers from getting out of control. :rolleyes1:rolleyes1:rolleyes1 I started off April on the right track. My races are scheduled and the motivation is returning. I just need the house to stay healthy for a while so I can start increasing my mileage.

I've never been able to pin bibs to my torso un annoyingly so all my bibs get pinned to my skirts/tutus/pants on my upper thigh- still often annoying but much less..

I recently ordered some of those Race Dots magnetic bib holders to try out. Hopefully they'll be here before my 5 miler next Sunday. :) I don't really like to pin things to my shirts, but I do do it for the plain old ones I've bought, but not any of my rD stuff or other printed race shirts. I don't mind pinning to my capris when I wear those, they're just cheap Old Navy ones, but I really don't want to be pinning to my Sparkle Skirts.

OK, I FINALLY registered for my races and can put my schedule together. So if you want to add them to your list LSUlakes that would be great.

6/26- BAA 10K- registration opens on 4/6 so I haven't officially signed up yet, but I will
7/3- Finish at the 50- Doing the 5k with my two oldest kids and the 10K by myself
9/10- Race to the Rock 1/2
10/2- Smuttynose 1/2- this will be my first attempt at POT for 2018 Dopey
10/16- Baystate Marathon-

Jealous of your Finish at the 50. I've wanted to do that for a few years now. But my family has a huge 4th celebration up by Lake Winnipesaukee every year and I might be disowned if I skipped it:) We are all huge Pats fans, so you'd think they would understand, but no unfortunately.

I like race belts. I have a belt only and my fuel belt, with bib attachments. I usually just use that because I am so used to running with it on long runs. I did use sleeves for the first time at this years PHM 10k. They were part of my costume, but they turned out to be dual purpose, and I liked them.

I have not. I do the original series. My favorite workouts are Plyo, Core Synergistics, Chest & Back, and Arms & Shoulders. I also make sure to get in 2 rounds of Ab Ripper per week, usually on upper body days. P90X has reshaped my body over the years and allows me to retain muscle mass as I approach 50.

Well, off to catch my flight to WDW. Hope everyone running this weekend reaches their goals.

I use the Race Dots and really like them. It takes a little effort to get them in place the first few times, but once you get the hang of it, they're much better than pins.

I tried them once, and have to say I wasn't a fan. I hope you have better luck than me with them. Mine currently are used on the fridge.

I have a love/hate relationships with RaceDots. I love running with them instead of having to pin things to my tech clothes but I hate getting them in place and aligned! I am getting ready to try the little tabs that Amphipod has on their race belts so it'll be interesting to see how they work out.

QOTD: today's question is a little specific to folks who run with pushing a stroller. What type of stroller do you run with and when running do you push with one hand or two, alternating between both hands?

ATTQOTD: we have a Bob. Alternate with both hands. Two hands only for uneven terrain.
