The Running Thread - 2016

Carissa was the lead announcer at both Tink and DLH his year, and she was insufferable to bordering on obnoxious.

For the Half, she couldn't stop asking about the people shooting for a Half time that started with a 1 - those were her people!! They're the best!! And then, about three corrals in, she mercifully left the rest of us waiting to start because she had to go "get ready to see the fast runners finish!".

Seriously. She needs a script or needs to just shut up sometimes.

Ugh. I'm so glad I couldn't hear her. That's obnoxious anywhere, but particularly at a supposedly inclusive race geared towards all women. Ugh again.

What exactly was the reason they got rid of Rudy for the DL races?I mean I don't know a Run Disney race without him,his voice is just iconic for a race at Disney.

I know. :( My guess would be that it had to do with money. That's a total guess, but it's usually what motivates them.

I feel like I'm missing out by being so far back that you don't get to hear the announcers. :o It was one of the things that kinda bummed me out at Tink... I was all excited for my first runDisney race and then I got to the corrals and it was just a lot of standing around and wondering what was going on. I didn't even know the race had started until the fireworks went off. And then it took like 45 minutes to get to our corral. It was just a lot of standing around and losing enthusiasm. :(

Eeps, that's bad. I was late to the corrals so missed all of that at Tink, but as I was crossing the finish line, I heard an announcer say "Here comes dis_or_dat waving .... Wow, she's still waving! .... Look at her wave!" and I thought it sounded so awkward and a bit forced, but I guess I had no fun outfit for her to comment on. So I just kept waving! :confused3 :wave2:

I was finishing the 5K at DLH this year (as Disgust - we were all characters from Inside Out), and her ******* self goes "Here comes Disgust - and man, she looks disgusting finishing the 5K!" ... I wanted to punch her.

OMG. That's terrible! Tink last year was my first rD race, so I don't know anything about announcers - but I can see why...

Hopefully she's improved since then?

When Carissa isn't the main person, she's fine - that's why she doesn't stand out when she's with Rudy, etc. But when she's the lead? Yikes. No.

My dad came to cheer me on during the Dark Side half this year, and he mentioned about 3 minutes before I crossed the finish line, the announcer shouting someone's name as they crossed with the comment "Word is you get around!" He was not impressed.

@Anisum, it was from marathon weekend two years ago. My husband was on a bus to see us finish and the bus driver had no clue where to go. A lot of people missed seeing family members finish because it ended up taking them an hour to get from animal kingdom lodge to Epcot.
That's awful but at least the runners got there on time which isn't always the case.

@dis_or_dat A+ gif use!
I get that the job is hard, but Carissa comes off as sounding almost clique-y/Mean Girl-esque at times. Like @Keels says, mentioning the super fast runners, how fast she herself is, etc. At this point I just try to tune her out. :confused3
I usually try to tune the announcers out because please don't come up with a word to describe my corral but there are some things that Clarissa said in DL for Tink where I was like "Wow. You said that and they keep bringing you back?"

Yes! Her at the DL half :faint:

I wasn't there last year for Tink but what others said above...yikes! Kinda glad I'm not "her people" though. :rotfl2::thumbsup2

What?! And Disney prefers THIS to Rudy? How? Why??????

Whoops on the non-multi quote...I posted the other before I went back and read this. Lol.

For the Dark Side half, she left before corral A even started... she must walk or crawl to the finish area.

You are not missing out! I wish I couldn't hear the announcers. Pretty much all race announcers annoy me because they feel that they have to constantly fill the air with noise. In my mind, race announcers should only speak when there is something worthwhile to say. They are not entertainment, or at least, they are not entertaining.

I didn't think about that. So far, the only rD weekend I have been to was Star Wars Dark Side, and since Rudy was there, I guess he was "lead." He was a bit annoying, but Carissa didn't come across as very annoying; however, I can see if she was "lead," that might change things. Like @BuckeyeBama, I try to ignore the announcers as much as possible, but rD definitely makes it hard to do with the loud sound and enormous big screen.

I like having music, announcers, and all the hoopla before a race. It helps get me pumped up. Peace and quiet would drive me nuts. Everyone has their own preferences though.

When I am racing with friends, I love the music and hoopla (but I totally tune out the announcers). When I am racing alone, I seek solitude in the peace that comes with my iPod Nano.

See now before a football game when I played I preferred the quiet. It helped me focus on the task at hand. A Disney race is a bit different than a football game at least for me.
