The Running Thread - 2016

Right??! :rolleyes2 I am crazy annoyed by this. I thought I would have more time to think about it.
Catch this: if W&D early registration for APs/DVC remains 2 weeks ahead of the general public... that puts early registration two days before we even run the 5K of Marathon Weekend 2017! :crazy2::headache::mad:

(ETA: W&D not marathon registration - it's all too much for me at this point!)

Without insurance, I am done with rD challenges. Might register for a race next year, but not the Dopey.

ATTQOTD: Not an official race, but some folks in the running club host a Yam Jam fun run that is a 5 mile loop with a start time of 6am and 7am. Several club members live along the route, and there will be hydration of various options. This will be the 4th year doing this and has gone from about 30 of us in year 1 to over 100 last year.

...2018 Marathon Weekend early registration for APs/DVC remains 2 weeks ahead of the general public...

Question about DVC registration: (Please don't flame me. Not trying to break the rules, just trying to understand what the rules are.) My brother is a DVC member and has no interest in running. Can he register me? What is the rule? DVC members get a certain number of registrations? They can only register family members? What is the definition of family member?

I am wearing my flame-proof undies just in case. Asbestos is itchy.

Completely agree this is going to be interesting to see how it plays out.

It seems like there are a number of marathons (i.e. Houston, Tulsa, Woodlands and Bryan/College Station) that have early registration for the next year open the same day as the race. A couple of those at a nice discount.

But for Disney, I agree that this seems way too early to commit that much money towards.

I think you need to live in the same household as the DVC member.

Thanks for the responses everyone. Very helpful information on the books and AP! I am going to do a little more research on it today if I get a chance. I think this last trip was so successful that DW is open to multiple trips a year, but we also decided on something else that would limit trips for a while.

QOTD: Anyone doing a Turkey Trot of similar type race this week? Since it is Thanksgiving, what is something you are thankful for that you would like to share with the group? Todays QOTD is a great suggestion by a fellow poster of this forum. Thanks for the suggestion!

ATTQOTD: I am in no shape to run a race currently. As I mentioned yesterday, I am still dealing with a cold that seems to be getting worse again :( and I don't have the training to get a good race in. I am even debating not running my half in January... I am thankful for the sweet little girl at home that calls me daddy. She puts a smile on my face everyday!

ATTQOTD: No turkey trot for me, but have a lot of mileage scheduled this week. Trying to balance out the meals I will be eating this weekend!

I am thankful for my family, they give me purpose and love everyday. And I am thankful to be healthy and able bodied to run. It is the one thing that I really do that is about and for me, keeps me healthy and is so rewarding.

For those who are eating turkey in the coming days, what is your preferred method of cooking it. Baked, smoked or fried? Fried turkey if the way to go for me. In fact, after we do our family meal for lunch, I have two turkeys in the fridge to fry as a little pregame entertainment before the LSU / Aggies game.

Sounds delicious @LSUlakes! What time can we come over?!!!

We take turns hosting T-day festivities with both sets of parents. It's our turn to host and my wife wants to make traditional oven baked turkey this year.
I have done Fried in the past and it was awesome.

QOTD: Doing a local turkey trot on Thanksgiving day. DD and I are doing the 5k. Last year I PRd at the 10k but I know I don't have a PR in me right now with my IT band being what it is. The 5K with my daughter will be fun! I'm thankful for the weekend I just spent in Disneyland with my mom and my kids. And I'm thankful that I'm going to see so many family members on Thanksgiving!

No Turkey Trot for me either this year. The weather is not supposed to be too nice on Thanksgiving but that has not stopped me before, I just will be visiting family out of town and won't be able to take the time to race. I am thankful for my health, family and my job that allows me to live the lifestyle I have. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Not on my calendar. 2 weeks before 2/14 is 1/31, I believe. We all better be done with marathon weekend by then.
Yeah, sorry - I was thinking W&D registration, but typing Marathon! Needless to say, I'm a bit out of sorts with this news. ;)

No limit on how many registrations, but technically I believe early registration is supposed to be limited to members of the DVC member's household. There is, of course, no conceivable way for rD to determine who those people are, however.

Dang! That's really early for Dopey registration. I could pretend that I'm debating about registering for it, but honestly I've been obsessed with Dopey 2018 since realizing the great intersection of anniversary medals, so I'm sure I'll be sitting at my computer on registration day - credit card in hand. I'm such a sucker.

Yes, we have a local, medium-sized (~2,200 runners) Thanksgiving Day race where they give out Sara Lee pies and the distance is pi (3.1416 miles). I am usually out-of-town, so I have only run it once or twice in the past, but I am looking forward to it this year.

I am thankful that I am still able to run.

That all depends. Do you want to have a few adult beverages or just eat? Just eat 5PM, other option ASAP lol. I actually don't know how well I will be feeling by Thursday, it seems this cold is getting worse by the hour. I'm starting to think a marathon in January may not happen.

Ugh - I hate that they're going to force people's hands on Marathon Weekend so quickly.

I'm already bailing on registering for Disneyland ... there's no way that I'm biting that bullet two weeks before Christmas for a race I've traditionally registered for at the end of January.

Also, after seeing so many TAs selling Dopey for greatly reduced prices this year, I might also take my chances with a TA and register closer to "normal" time and hope for a discount.

But, then again, I would definitely register immediately if they gave us the opportunity to do so right after Marathon Weekend (like what they did recently with Avengers), or in advance of regular registration like they did with Dopey this year. Insurance would be great, as well as deferrals ... but if for some reason I can't run, you can bet that I'll be selling my bibs Black Market-style -- because RunDisney has forced me into no other option.
