The Running Thread - 2016

ATTQOTD: I voted after work today. The line was almost 1.5 hours long! No run planned today as it is a planned test day.

ATTQOTD: Voted by mail a few weeks ago! I still took off work a little early to get my run in because I leave at 8am tomorrow for my three week trip in Asia and I'm NOT PACKED YET! :crazy2:

QOTD: Since today is election day, todays question will focus on that. Did you or are you going to vote? Are you going to have to adjust your running plans to both run and vote today?

ATTQOTD: I am going to vote after I (hopefully) run today. The only adjustment I will have to make is probably a decreased mileage today to make sure it make it to the polls in time.

In other news, my sinus infection has returned and is kicking my butt. I feel like this whole training season is going down hill fast as its been one thing after another lately.

I voted early about a week and a half ago. I just wished there was a code I could enter into my cable box to verify I had voted and opt out of campaign ads for the remainder of the season!

Same here! We also screen our calls, and are getting so many hangups. I want to scream into the phone "WE ALREADY VOTED!!!! LEAVE US ALONE!!!!"

Out of the marathons I have looked at thus far, I really like this one. It would give me enough time to recover from the Houston Marathon in January, and get in full training cycle. Cost seems to about the same as far as any airfare and hotel, so not a big difference there. Flights from Orlando are much cheaper then from here, I am coming up with about $400 for a round trip. Which isn't that bad imo, defiantly couldn't drive it cheaper than that. Looks like a shuttle system is available to the start for a small fee. What else can you tell me about this race? It may be a little while before I try to pass this one along to DW, but I see a opportunity if things fall into place perfectly...

I have not run the race but know people that have...everyone seems to like it. Toronto has two marathons, this one in the spring and another bigger one in the fall. The Goodlife in May is point-to-point and gives you a good visual tour of the city, with the first half of the race being a net downhill and then it remains fairly flat for the back half. Toronto itself is a world-class city with so much to see and do...too much to list here.

ATTQOTD (Tues): I did vote and I was actually a poll worker/election judge yesterday. It. was. exhausting.

I have my 10K this weekend and am fighting some kind of sinus junk... hoping it goes away soon!!

Went for a run under the pouring rain. I thought I was going to drown. By far the most challenging 5K I've ever done but I pushed through and finished anyway, I'm pleased with myself for that. Good thing I've already met the perfect man because I have never looked less attractive than wearing my sweatshirt and hoodie today and running when there wasn't a single soul out and even the neighbourhood kittens looked at me like I was out of my mind.

I still have to catch up on posts but well done everyone who finished a race recently, especially Wine & Dine! Are there any TRs floating around for that weekend?

(Not avoiding saying 'I voted' - I just don't live in the US)

QOTD: What bad (unhealthy) habits you had that running helped put a end to?

ATTQOTD: Running has helped changed my lifestyle in many ways, with better choices in eating, sleeping, weight loss, ect. Those are significant, but running helped me end the worse bad habit of them all, which was smoking. During college I smoked a pack a day. It is amazing how much better I feel today then I did back in those days.

@LSUlakes congratulations on quitting smoking, that is amazing!

I think running has helped me clean up my diet and drink more water. I definitely sleep better, too.

ATTQOTD: I'm not sure if this counts as a bad habit, but thinking negative thoughts about my body/looks all the time. I think running has opened me up to embrace what cool things this body of mine is capable of. I used to actively NOT go do things for fear that I didn't have the right "look" to do them (pool parties, gym classes, running on the lake, anything that required tank tops etc.) Now I'm much more open to try out new things and not let those thoughts stop me. And it's funny that now I look at pics and I'm like "I looked fine, I look fine now"

Also I drink water waaaay more now.

Since I am posting a lot lately, probably because I am excited about this upcoming weekend, I wanted to discuss a topic I brought up a few days ago. Since I will be at WDW next week and have a jam packed schedule (If interested in the way to much stuff I have planned see trip report link in sig box) I do not think I would be able to dedicated the proper amount of time to post a QOTD. So I asked for suggestions on what to do, and the overwhelming response was to pick one person for the first day, then that person would pick someone else for the next day and so on and so forth for the remaining of the week. I thought it was a great idea and have chosen @DopeyBadger to start things off next week. I would like to thank DopeyBadger for taking the first QOTD and helping out.

I will try to respond to the QOTD while on the trip, it will probably just be at odd hours, or while standing in line for a ride...
