The Running Thread - 2016

ATTQOTD: I have used bag check quite a bit. I tend to get cold pretty quickly once the race is over so I like to have a sweatshirt handy. Also I am solo to a lot of the races I do so it is just easier to have stuff available quickly after the race. It is doubly true as winter begins to take hold!

Long day for me tomorrow, but for the very best reasons!

I'm a course/bike monitor for my FIRST-EVER RunDisney race (I've done it a couple of times for tiny local races, so I feel like I'm making a leap to the big leagues), and then I'm hopping in the truck to make the drive up to the panhandle to support my guy @FFigawi in Ironman Florida.

I just hope that I can be as helpful to him as he was for me during Dopey this year. Even though he was far away, he checked in after every run, calmed my fears, gave my encouragement and even tough talk. And then, on Marathon Day, he was there.

He believed I could do the impossible, even when I didn't think I could.

Can't wait to see him become an Ironman!!

Good luck John!

Good luck to everyone else with a race this weekend as well.

QOTD: I used bag check at Tower of Terror. I went alone and wanted to go to the party after the race so I brought clean clothes. Normally I do not check a bag though. I am not a trusting person so leaving my stuff with others is not high on my things to do list.

ATTQOTD: like @roxymama and @Disney at Heart (and others!), I tend to run with as little as possible and use my car or room for my gear.

I did use Bag Check one time----the Surfin' Santa last year started outside the convention center and finished INSIDE the convention center and the bag check was so close and convenient-I figured why not. It was a small race and took about 20 seconds to retrieve my bag after the race.

@Keels rocks! That is all.

QOTD: What are some things you think about while you are out for a run?

ATTQOTD: I am usually thinking about my pace and the goal of the workout. I also do a lot of planning while I'm out for a run. Planning for the next day, the weekend, a big event coming up... Unfortunately by the time I am done running I forget half the "really good ideas" I had while I was running. It is amazing how the miles fly by when my mind is concentrating on something else.

Good luck to all the racers this weekend and to everyone for their long run. Safe travels as well!

I think about anything & everything except how much longer I have to run. I solve problems at work, make up back stories about the people I pass by, plan my next vacation - anything to keep my mind busy and focused. I concentrate on my target pace too, but you can only look at your watch so many times.

ATTQOTD: I know I must think about something but I have gone entire 3 hour runs before and not really known what I thought about the whole time. :D If I'm listening to podcasts though then I'm usually concentrating on the story/conversation... as much as one can concentrate while running anyways.

Good luck to everyone this weekend! So proud of all of you!

I do a lot of (@Keels scroll past this) math. I usually try to figure out how many miles I will get in the month given the days left, when I should eat my sports beans based on the number I have left in my bag, what percentage of the run I completed, how these percentages divide up, pace, what time I'll finish, etc. I also think about what I need to do for the week, and try and sing the entire Hamilton soundtrack in order in my head.

Sounds like an amazing way to spend a weekend @Keels !!

Good luck, John @FFigawi on your Ironman. Can't wait to hear about it!

QOTD: What are some things you think about while you are out for a run?

I'm usually running with other people so we talk about a lot of different topics. When it's just me and my husband on a tough run, we usually lapse into talking about any upcoming Disney trip and what our plans are for each day.

ATTQOTD: I spend most of my time "obsessing" with pace and time/miles remaining. Sometimes I can distract myself with a good song and start singing along or listen to a funny or informative podcast. Or I start thinking about the rest of my day and what I need to do, or if I'm really lucky I start thinking about family or an upcoming trip and the planning involved. But then I drift back to how many minutes remaining, how many miles left in the week, in the month, etc!
I'm a prisoner of my own GPS!

Good question! I usually have time/pace/distance/intervals constantly running through my mind in the background. I listen to podcasts while I run, so I am also usually thinking about whatever topic is being discussed (anything from runDisney topics, celebrity gossip stuff, parenting, politic/current events -- I have a totally random mix of podcasts that I listen too!). I also feel like I usually have an underlying awareness of where I am and what's around me, dogs and other animals, cars, people, etc - making sure there isn't anything concerning.

On another topics, does anyone listen to the Runner's World podcast?? If not, you should! It's one I really enjoy -- and the last 2 in particular have been very good, though tearjerkers/emotional (one about a military wife/mom who lost her husband and established a running event for others who have lost family, and then one about being "female while running" and harrassment while running). Good for runners and non-runners.

Happy weekend!

ATTQOTD: I think about all kinds of stuff. Work, family, life, and I also mentally put myself back into previous races and think about how much I love running and race day. But, I also have moments were I think about how much I dislike running and ask myself why I do it, why is the sun so hot, why does humidity and hills exist, blah, blah, blah. Of course, love conquers hate every time!
