The Running Thread - 2016

Welcome back, but it looks like your forgot to answer a question of the day or two. :)
Well, I rep the Arizona Wildcats (Bear Down!). My fuel strategy was caffeinated sports beans. I don't really have a secret goal. Weirdest thing I've carried on a run is window screens someone was giving away (we had just said we needed one for our kitchen the night before! Sure enough, it was PERFECT lol) My winter training schedule is non-existent since I have no future race plans at the moment.

My ideal Disney race would be what someone suggested with one at every park over 7 days - but I would like it to be over 7 weeks so I could get a week to enjoy each location (also, in this dream, I am wealthy and money is no object ;) )

I think that covers a number of them that I can remember...

Just got back from the doc and it turns out what I thought was a hamstring problem is actually sciatic nerve pain. So it looks like I get to do PT for the next month or so. Thankfully it won't really affect my training.
Oh no to sciatic pain but "welcome" to the club I guess....I overcame it many many years ago but it came back last fall with my piriformis injury and so I just manage it now the best I can, some days are better than others, and I actually aggravate it more when taking baby/toddler photos than running because I overstretch to the side.

As for running stores there's one about 15 miles away but I don't shop at it these days.

QOTD: How far (Miles/Time) is it to your nearest specialty running store? What's the name of that store?

My nearest running store is a Fleet Feet. It's about 10 miles away. I try to go to a running store whenever I visit a different city. I actually collect running store shirts with the city on them.

ATTQOTD: 1st Place Sports Running is my closest store and it's about 8 miles from my house.

Oh no! That's rough. Do everything your PT says!

That sounds like a pretty good dream!

I had that a couple of years ago, and sometimes I still do. It has sort of morphed into a hip/lower back injury. It's an ongoing battle for me.

ATTQOTD: The closest store to me is a Fleet Feet also, but it is about 65 miles away. And I have to be going there specifically to visit it as it is on the other side of Little Rock from where I usually go (airport). Unless I am going to Chipotle, because it is in the same shopping center. And yes, I would drive 65 miles just to go to Chipotle. :)

65 miles for Chipotle? Wow, that's a commitment.

ATTQOTD - I almost never have to go to a running store. The closest to me is about 30 minutes away. No idea the name as it is an independent store, not a chain.

Sciatic nerve pain - THE WORST.

The book "Treat your own back" was a lifesaver for me this year. Highly recommend it. I hope you feel better soon!

ATTQOTD: One of the local running store chains in my area is Pacers. The closest location is half a mile from my house! In addition to good merch, they also put on a number of great local races.

QOTD: How far (Miles/Time) is it to your nearest specialty running store? What's the name of that store?

There's a New Balance store less than a mile from my house and I know a bunch of the staff there and there is a Runner's Choice (local independent) less than an mile from my office, and I know a bunch of the staff there. We have a pretty cool running community in our town:) The guy that owns the New Balance store is actually the former owner of Runner's Choice...he sold to a long-time employee when the opportunity to open the New Balance London store presented itself.

ATTQOTD: Running Room is my local running store - I live exactly 12km from two locations. There might be a closer location downtown - but not when you factor in parking and traffic

Running Room? Kilometres?? Are you a fellow Canadian @kristabelle13???

Trak Shak. At the Curve in Homewood, and a smaller store on 280. There's also a Fleet Feet somewhere in town (Cahaba Heights?), but I've never been there. But yeah... not in our part of town. :)

Okay, so the pages really do add up fast! I missed a lot...

@Keels ... Healing vibes to you! Hope you're feeling better today.

re: Dogs... the yip yips are the most aggressive, but harmless. If they ever get too close you can just boot them into next week. Once or twice someone in the neighborhood has headed out the door without paying attention and almost lost control of their animal. The park I go to for the long runs has a fenced in dog park area, but that's the only place they are allowed without a leash. There was one time a girl brought her small horse with her, but thankfully he was well behaved, especially as he outweighed the waif at least 2-to-1. I am going to start carrying spray, though, as my in neighborhood runs are going to get more frequent and longer. There are some good, small options out there.

re: Inspiration ... The music from Soarin'. Both times walking into Epcot Wednesday, and that was the park music. I wanted to take off right there.

re: Disney this week ... It's hot! It's incredibly draining, but I'm having so much fun with DW, it's still awesome. I've got two more training runs before we leave for home, which is good training for Dopey, as we are definitely heading out on tired legs in the morning.

Oh, and the crowds are the lightest we have ever seen, including a September (same week) 4 years ago.

ATTQOTD: 4 miles to Saturday Bike and Run. 12 miles to a Fleet Feet. I've been to both.

Last night I had my race nightmare... seems to be a thing for me before any race. This time I got to the half marathon and it turned out to be one of those obstacle runs. We had to run through mud and waist deep water, then crawl under splintery logs, then climb horrible sharp fences... I kept telling the people around me, "I didn't train for this! I trained to run! When are we going to just run? It's going to take me forever to finish!"

It was horrible, but makes me laugh.

Good luck all, this weekend! :)

I'll sign off on the red sparkle skirt. I'll see your beer and raise you a margarita (you know, for the salt).

Looks like we have a good start on our team uniform ideas for Dopey 2018. Red sparkle skirts for all!!
