The Running Thread - 2016

ATTQOTD: In August we always go to a little lake town in Michigan and stay in a cabin together. It's very much a "sit around all day, then cook out, then sit some more" type of vacation. My husband said he hated it as a kid but now we love it as adults. Looking forward to running around all the very expensive fancy lake houses that we do not stay at :)
Then the only other vacays are to Naperville, IL for a triathlon (I'm spectating, the hubby is the tri-guy) and then St. Louis over labor day for a family visit but also a big biking (road-bikes, not motorcycles) event and we found a 5k for me to run during it that goes along part of the bike course.

@LSUlakes I have a race to add. 9/5/16 Benton Park 5k, St. Louis, MO (no goal yet)
I've read that the medal is an edible pretzel???

QOTD: What is you next vacation/trip you are going on that is not Disney or running related?

ATTQOTD: Zero, zilch, nada... all planned future vacations involve The Mouse lol! Every year we price out other vacations and every year I realize I can't afford them. I'm semi-local to WDW, so no transportation cost plus FL discounts make WDW our cheapest option short of just staying home.

Good luck everyone with running events this weekend!!

We haven't quite figured out what we are doing this summer but tentatively hope to go to the beach in South Carolina in June with extended family and possibly go to New Mexico/Colorado in July. Also trying to sneak in a "runcation" to Minnesota for the Red White and Boom Half during 4th of July.
Anyone ever try that one?

Hello to all the runners. I've been lurking here so I thought I'd post an introduction. I've been a runner for 5 years now and a Disney fan forever. I'm looking forward to joining your runDisney conversations.

Welcome to the thread. Let me know of any races you have coming up, and I will add them to page one.

QOTD: What is you next vacation/trip you are going on that is not Disney or running related?

Right now the only definitive plans we have is our trip for Dopey in January. We are looking into a trip to visit family in Delaware to introduce our son to his extended family. That is up in the air with my new job and limited vacation days for the rest of the year. We're really hoping to make it work though.

QOTD: What is you next vacation/trip you are going on that is not Disney or running related?

ATTQOTD: My only planned trip that isn't Disney related is back home to PA to visit family.

My daughter and I just decided to run the Bolder Boulder 10k on May 30. It's always fun and I'm hoping to get a better proof of time to submit for the Dumbo Double Dare. That's the last day to submit times so I'll be squeaking it in.

ATTQOTD: I just booked a work/vacation trip for June. We have a meeting (my DH and I work for the same company). We're going to fly into Little Rock several days before to visit my parents in Hot Springs. Then we're leaving our son (first time ever leaving him overnight ) to go to our meeting.

We're driving past WDW in July to visit my MIL in the Miami area.

Then our WDW trip is in Sept.

I'm planning our 2017 trip which won't include a Disney vacation. It will be our last trip before my son starts kindergarten. We're either going on an Alaskan or Northern European cruise. I'm still pricing out which will be our best option.

ATTQOTD: Leaving for Paris in 22 days. 5 nights there, and then on the Barcelona to embark on a 7 night cruise on the brand spanking new Harmony of the Seas.

We were looking at the same cruise/same ship for June but waited too long to lock in airfares. The ship looks AMAZING. Hope you tell us all about it when you return.

Welcome @Mad Stitch. Running and Disney fan = great combination.

My next major trip won't be until April of next year, unfortunately. My wife is a high school principal and German teacher and she takes students from her school on tours of Europe over spring break every other year or so. I have been going along and helping to chaperone them. Next up is long one (11+ days) through Frankfurt, Munich, Innsbruck, Venice, Verona, Lucerne and ending in Paris! There's technically no running involved in this base trip, but the preliminary dates match up well with the London Marathon. So I'm really hoping to get lucky in the London lottery and when the tour ends in Paris I'll just take the train over to London, spend a few days, and close it out with the marathon!

Didn't I get into running partly as an excuse to travel? I've got a meeting in Orange Beach, AL in July. But it's hard to find non-running AND non-Disney trips... a business trip to Disney in July (rough, I know), then Wine and Dine Half, and possibly DC for ATM thrown in for good measure.

That's a tough one...we go away a lot but it's always Disney, running/triathlon or both :) We will be going to a wedding in Mexico in October and there are no races scheduled, so I guess that's it. We also go on mini-vacations almost every weekend up to the cottage, finally opening it up this weekend!

Welcome @Mad Stitch!

Will do. This itinerary is pretty port intensive, I am not sure we will have time to do everything on the ship, but we will give it a shot. We are looking to only spend half a day ashore in Marseilles to spend time on ship.

We booked the ship last August, and caught a 1 day sale on airfare that saved us about $1200 in Nov, and have not seen prices that low since we booked. Sometimes it pays to stalk air fares! My son had been wanting to go on the Oasis or Allure for years, so we figured we could knock off Paris and the new ship in one trip.
