The Running Thread - 2016

ATTQOTD: We have a travel trailer and do several long weekend camping trips all summer here in Michigan. And I'm always thinking about where to go on our next spring break trip, or any trip for that matter. I love to travel! If only I had unlimited funds to do so...

I just picked up my race bib for my first 25K tomorrow and now I'm soooo nervous!! I'm not sure why, I mean I've run a marathon, I should be able to knock out 15.5, right??? Maybe it's because even though I've run that distance many times, I've never raced it, and maybe I'm putting too much pressure on myself to run it in a certain time. Good grief, I just need to calm down. :crazy2:

I always get a little amped up after picking up my bib. Those nerves are what make us run faster on race day. Have fun out there! You'll do great!!

I'm in the same situation. I also have an Apple Watch and love it. I'm a big apple guy. I've been looking at getting a Harmon lately just for running. I don't want anything expensive either.

I quite literally spent most of the day yesterday doing research, so I think I've narrowed it down to something. I can PM you the details if you're interested. Not sure everyone else is as interested as we are. LOL. My run last night reinforced my desire though as I thought I was running slower (by glancing at my watch) than usual and knew my legs felt tired, but next thing I know the stats at the end had it at a pretty decent pace for me.

QOTD: What is you next vacation/trip you are going on that is not Disney or running related?

I do not understand your question. There are other trips besides Disney? :confused3

In all seriousness, I was trying to go to Hawaii for a friend's wedding, but the flights are just too crazy for peak summer. Silly girl, didn't she know I NEED her to get married in off-peak months. It doesn't help that I'm used to using DVC when I travel, so "paying" for hotel with those flight prices made it just a little out of my reach. Aahh well. Only things we really have on schedule are Dumbo and Dark Side next year. The horror! That's a long time between trips. I might have to reconsider ...

Oh if you could that would be great!

We have a 25 year anniversary coming up in 2018 and hope to go to Hawaii then. BUT I almost pulled the trigger this year with a $450 pp fare from DC to Maui on Virgin. That's almost half of what it usually costs. I do FareWatch Alerts on TripAdvisor and get notified when there is a sale to a destination I am seeking.

I have pretty much every alert email and app turned on right now. LOL. I really wanted to go. That is an amazing price. I really think the problem is the time of year (last week of June). It's the blackout period for most sales. I'm finding almost $800 RT EACH out of LAX to Honolulu. The sale for the fall that Virgin just put out is amazing ($199 each way), but it's the wrong time of year. :(

I'm an Apple person too, but I just don't wear a watch in every day life, so I didn't have any interest in the Apple Watch. I love my Garmin though for running. :) I have the 220.

I'm pretty nervous about my HM tomorrow! No early bib pickup for me... the race is about an hour away, and the expo sounds small (outdoor tent expo) so I didn't want to take the afternoon off work to go up there and back. I'm just going to get there early tomorrow to pick it up. The only annoying thing about that, well, other than having to leave the house at 6am, is that I won't be able to get the bib on with my magnet thingys ahead of time. :) Maybe I'll wear another shirt so I can put them on and then swap shirts. It's also going to be warm, and right now is really humid. I'm not sure I'm ready to run in this weather yet! We kinda jumped from mid-40 temps right into 60's and 70's.

ATTQOTD: No real vacations planned for a while. SO wants to take me to Ireland for my 40th birthday, which was back in December, but that's going to be a while. We had a really rough 2015 with unexpected expenses combined with already planned ones. We had a week vacation at WDW in 12/2014 already planned, plus 5 day weekends at DLR and WDW for Tink and W&D, plus my car needed $1400 of unexpected work, and then our dog was having surgery and cancer treatments for like half the year. I think right now the only semi-planned thing we have coming up is maybe going to visit my parents in FL in late September. That's an empty point in my race schedule right now (I had been thinking of maybe doing the Clarence DeMar HM, but I didn't register for it yet or anything) and my mom's 65th birthday is in late Sept. We haven't been down to their house in over 2 years now, and haven't seen them at all since they were up here in 7/2015 except for 2.5 days when they came to W&D. I was hoping maybe I could find a race in FL during that time, but it doesn't seem like a very popular racing time in FL. :)

Aulani??? I agree, DVC spoils you in certain ways. When we bought our contract it had a whole year's worth of banked points that we keep rolling over with intention to use for a Hawaii trip if we can ever find a decent deal on airfare.

Yeah, I own at VGC and VWL, so Aulani was booked up solid by the time my 7-month window rolled around. Oh well. I need the points anyway, since Dark Side next year is slated for premium pricing a week after Easter. Ugh.

QOTD: What is you next vacation/trip you are going on that is not Disney or running related?
A short, semi-local camping trip in June, and then Yellowstone in early August. We went to Yellowstone last summer and my boys said they liked it more than Disney World! (If I didn't give birth to them, I would've seriously wondered if we were related based on that!!)

Something off-topic/on-topic: My husband is running a 5k this weekend for a co-worker's charity and he had the choice to add $10 to his registration and receive a medal OR not. And as supplies last, you can decide to purchase the medal at the race for $10, cash or credit card accepted. Anyone ever heard of such a thing? It seems nice for people who would like to save some dough who do not care much about medals but also feels like it'd be a little weird to finish a race and then hand over your credit card... although I guess we do that often enough with beer, etc. ???

ATTQOTD: No non-running/non-Disney trips any time soon. I will be visiting my parents next month in Wisconsin, but will be running a half marathon in Madison (eep! hills!) during the trip. DH and I are hoping to plan something for our milestone anniversary in June 2017, maybe revisit the Yucatan (he's a history buff, I'm a marine biologist, so it works for both of us) and invite close family/friends along for a good time.

Cherry Blossom 10 miler in DC does this pre race but don't think they it post race. For some reason I was thinking they even had the option for a fancier medal too.

ATTQOTD: No big trips planned for us until after marathon weekend. We are leaving for our first Disney cruise the day after! We have a weekend trip to the beach and mountains for the summer and fall (one benefit to living in North Carolina - not too far from either place).

Woot Woot Wisconsin! Good luck at the Madison Spring Half!

Good luck to everyone with a race this weekend.

QOTD: I have no vacations planned currently. We will do some day trips here and there but nothing for a vacation. I may still do marathon weekend but nothing definite yet.

I actually had to take the last 2 days off from running. My ankle used to hurt only when I touched it and I could run on it fine. The last 2 days it is hurting even just to walk on it so I am being cautious and icing and resting. I have a doctor's appt. scheduled for Thursday. This will throw off another month of mileage toward my goal for the year but I am trying to take it in stride and pretend like it doesn't bother me that I am slacking off.

Next non-running vacation...leaving early tomorrow morning for Washington DC and then flying back the day after tomorrow. Quick trip to visit friends...we'll be visiting Washington's birthplace and a winery.
