QOTD: What do you for a living to support your running habits?
Well I'm in high school so my parents help a bit. Otherwise I work for some friends of ours who own a company selling roasted nuts (yes the candied sugar kind) so I work for them at our local baseball stadium (Miller park) and local basketball/hockey arena (the Bradley center).

QOTD: What do you for a living to support your running habits?

I work for the State of Arkansas in purchasing at a residential facility for developmentally disabled adults. Kids are grown and live out of state or I would never be able to support my habits on my salary! But I earn lots of vacation time and have a very flexible boss who lets me use every hour of vacation I earn whenever I want so it is worth it. :)

I am a bit intimidated by my race this weekend. It is a 10k hosted by our state running group and I would say 95% of the people running (right now 295 signed up) are in the group. Mostly young men/women who run very fast! I hope I don't finish last! My fear is getting to the finish line and having everyone sitting there waiting for me to finish so they can go home lol! I am hoping for a PR though. It is a flat, fast course and mentally knowing it is only 6.2 miles (as opposed to 13.1 which is all I have run in races since October) I'm thinking I can push myself a little bit. I want to use this as my new POT for upcoming Disney races.

QOTD: What do you for a living to support your running habits?

ATTQOTD: I am the director of laboratories for a health system. I work traditional M-F hours along with any calls I might get when I'm off, so running for us is an early morning activity. Most of the time during work weeks we run at 5 AM.

Got word that I am in for the Marine Corps Marathon!

Woohoo! Congrats.

How do you do that? Which Garmin do you have? I think this would be helpful for me, because sometimes I do it without realizing it.

I have the Garmin 225. I can set pace alerts that make my watch beep and vibrate if I go above or below a threshold I set. I only have the low pace set, because I have been taking walk breaks occasionally since my knee issues at PHM.
The entry on the 225 for the pace alert is Menu -> Settings -> Activity Settings -> Alerts -> Pace -> Then you set Fast Alert and Slow Alert.

I find it helpful, and getting that feature (plus wrist based heart rate) was the main reason I went from the 210 to the 225.

ATTQOTD:I am El Presidente of A Real Estate Investment & Property Management firm. People think I'm the boss but in reality I work to keep my team and all of our customers happy 24/7.

Sounds like everybody has lots of cool jobs including the SAHMs (Stay at Home Moms) which is one of the hardest jobs out there. Pay not always good but the rewards and perks should hopefully make up for it when our kids are in their 20s....30s......40s!!!!!

@rteetz--how do you like your Miller Park gig? That sounds like fun.
As a baseball fan I love it. It's almost like getting paid to watch baseball. It really depends which of our stands I work at though. It's going to be an interesting year as the Brewers are likely going to be one of the worst teams in baseball. Opening day is Monday!

Got word that I am in for the Marine Corps Marathon! Totally excited and completely terrified all at once!

Congrats on getting in! Such a great race. First time I haven't been signed up for it in a few years but taking the year off from marathons.

Bernie the Brewer and his slide always make me laugh. Pirates fan and they open Sunday. Going up for opening day and it's supposed to cold! Boo!

Oh answer to QOTD - accountant for a property management company.

Aren't they normally near the bottom? :rotfl:
Yes but this year will be especially bad. At least they have gone to the playoffs twice in the last decade. Milwaukee loves baseball so it's really sad we can't get a good team going here.

Yep, against my SF Giants! :)

Thanks! Now I have to look into logistics of where to stay. Having lived in the city as well as Alexandria and College Park, I was a big metro user, but I've read some stuff that it's not a great choice for race morning. Looking to figure out hotels near race transportation.

I don't watch a lot of MLB, in fact I cant tell you the last time I watched a game on TV. The last MLB game I watched was in 2014 the day after the Boston marathon we went to watch Boston play the Yankees. It was a very cool experience! I do watch college baseball, and usually the Tigers have a solid team, but they are struggling so far. They are replacing 8 of 9 starting positions this year, so I try not to get to mad.

That's one thing we don't have a college baseball team. I do know someone who plays for northwestern though so I do occasionally watch them.

ATTQOTD: I'm a clerk for a local government office. My hours aren't flexible, but never change and I rarely ever have to work overtime, so I know what to expect everyday and can plan my runs easily.

I like to stay in the Rosslyn area. You can catch the blue or orange line to the start and there are some hotels you can walk to after the finish. The Rosslyn Residence Inn is always my go to for MCM.

You all have these fancy name jobs, just a Photographer here, but the plus is it's very flexible for running!

Thanks for the tip!

ATTQOTD: I am in IT as a SAP Basis guy for an oil field services company. We are the ones who get yelled at when the system does not perform as expected by the end-users.

@rteetz, as an Astros fan, I feel your pain. For us, it is actually fun again to look forward to the upcoming year. Last year was amazing for what the Astros did with such a young team.

@LSUlakes, Go Hogs!!!! I am enjoying the SEC Network and the ability to watch SEC baseball through the ESPN apps. SEC baseball is consistently strong, and fun to watch.
