Water based animals confined in tanks isn’t a very smart PR move. At least the bigger ones. They do have smaller fish. But there’s also a distinct tackiness that goes with those types of tanks and pools like Seaworld has. It works there because that’s their schtick, but if you place huge tanks in AK, it’s going to stick out like a sore thumb. The sanctuary’s that hold the animals at AK have an organic look to them

So I guess they chose to ignore a prominent animal population, in AK, because of how it looks to the general public. I'm not saying that isn't the right move, but I do find it out of a global position.

They do have the Seas pavilion at Epcot, which predates AK. They probably didn't see the need for a second giant aquarium.

I don't think it has to be a giant aquarium. I don't know what it could be, but that the presence is lacking.

The new Avatar films are going to have a large amount of underwater scenes on Pandora. They could make an addition there, but since it is all fantasy creatures it wouldn't be live animals. I think they should keep the actual marine life at The Seas and not expand that to AK.

AK has a more exotic feel, more jungle-like, even if unintended. I don't think an underwater seas type exhibit would fit in.

Yeah, but for Pandora they could do it with a little "magic" so to speak. It wouldn't actually be an underwater exhibit in my mind, but it would show the Pandoran sea life through some kind of attraction.

They should definitely do a Rain Forest type situation in the park, not necessarily Dinoland spot. You don't even need to tie it into a movie, can still be themed to adults and children, they just need to be creative.
They could build an awesome playground/treehouse type of structure. Have it "rain" on and off throughout day. Have a "glider through the trees" type ride...

Exotic insects exhibit... 😲
Would love a rainforest/South America area. If they did have to tie it in to a film, Zootopia has a rainforest section (where the panther attacks them and there is a gondola across the rainforest) :)

If they did a Zootopia attraction that went through all the habitats in the film, would that be ok for AK?

I still like the idea of Dinoland, even as a roadside attraction - it could just use a little sprucing up, especially without Primevil Whirl. I would definitely make some changes to it, but keep the general theme.
Dinoland, ignoring Dinorama, is still my favorite place in the park. What I’ve hoped for for years is a return to something like the Dinosaur Jubilee or Fossil Prep Lab, with a bit more oomph to it. Basically doubling down on The Dino Institute.

Plus, it’s not a zoo, so they don’t have to include all the animals of the world. They actually have a very small population of the worlds animals and the ones they do have, most are there for a conservation aspect. There are enough Marine ecological facilities in Florida to house the aquatic species that need conservation, and Disney already has a facility in Epcot for that purpose. I don’t see it as them neglecting those species, more that they’re just not necessary in that location. Plus, they do have a large cichlid population on the Africa Trek which fits in nicely with the aesthetic of that area.

How do you know how dragons are supposed to act????????
That's missing his point.

People have a general concept of how wild animals behave, so, as long as they fall within those expectations, you can still present fantasy animals in a believably "natural" way (see Pandora).

Regardless, we do know how rabbits, foxes, etc. behave in their natural environment, and it's not walking around a city on two legs, dressed in human clothes, and working human jobs.

I haven’t been in a couple of years but I seem to remember a relatively large tank connected to a small river in Africa which held an abundance of African cichlids. ( I have had tropical fish for many years). I remember it being quite impressive.

Yes I have pictures!

If they switched Dinoland to a South America Section, They could probably find a way to keep dinosaur with a light re-theme. I can't see Disney ponying up all of the money to re-do the Dinosaur ride. They would probably re-film the pre-show or say that the Dino research center was in South America. Although they would have to spend a lot of money to build a cornerstone attraction for that land, and animals of course. I have no idea... Dinoland is such a mess right now and I think they would want to build a zootopia land from scratch.

Yes I'm sure the general concept we all have of mythical creatures is accurate. So accurate in fact we can't project additional mythical properties on other stories.

Makes sense.

I don't recall seeing the cichlids at AK. I had to watch a video on YouTube to see their pond at AK. I guess it wasn't impressionable to me during my visits.

I would assume dragons weren't going to be given human traits if that land ever happened. Zootopia, well, they will be. :)

AK has a few shows, I think? that showcase talking animals showing human emotions and traits.

In both FotLK and Nemo the animals still act like animals. Yes they talk but that’s not the point. Those stories fit with the theme of AK. Zootopia is animals not acting like animals at all. The themes from that film don’t correlate with AK.

It's along the trail in Africa. Probably easy to miss. I liked it because a hippo also lived there and it was interesting to me to see it half underwater and half above.
