I'm curious - Other than to "guide" you through your DVC purchase, what else to guides do?

They're salespeople. You work with your guide during your initial purchase, and if you want to buy additional points later.

For anything else - reservations, ADRs, DME, loan and maintenance fee issues - anything involving the use of your membership - you talk to Member Services.

Our guide -nothing! She seems "miffed" that we bought through TTS. Such is life... :confused3

A few of them ignore your calls when you are trying to add on :rolleyes1

Apparently this makes you want even more points!

I guess I'm in the minority. I love my guide.

She calls us before every trip to see if we need anything (reservations, dining, etc.). I usually have an hour long conversation with her about all the new things going on around property. When we got add-on-itis, she helped push us through the BCV waiting list pretty quickly.

Call you to add-on, but then magically goes on "vacation" or has a day off when you call with a question....

Our guide has always been there when we need him, but doesn't hound us to add on. He did call us when the OKW extension was offered, but other than that we don't hear from him unless we call him. He has always been fantastic in processing our add-ons or extensions...very professional and thorough...just the way we want it.

Mine calls me back when I call him...

I like this arrangement. When I have done add ons he has them done quickly.

That's not a guide, that's a stalker!

I oughta know, see my "tag".

Guides are sales people who are in the business of selling. Some sales people only want to deal with you when you are going to buy. Other sales people will keep in touch with the hopes of you buying more points.

DVD keeps records on Members and we are rated based upon our buying potential and patterns. Based upon these ratings some will receive targeted mailings or a call from your Guide, others will never be contacted.

Our guide didn't bother to be there when we have an appt. with him to finalize our purchase. So someone else did all the work but he got the commission. Never did bother to call and say thank you. Pretty worthless as far as I'm concerned.

Our guide has been very nice. She calls us to welcome us "home" on our first day at WDW. After I broke my leg and arm in EPCOT this past June, she called a few times to check on me, facilitated a complimentary extra night's stay at the resort for us, and gave us a $100 voucher that we can use at any Disney restaurant when we go back in January. The extra night was really appreciated because I had to have surgery on my leg and could not travel for 24 hours after my discharge from Florida Hospital.

Our guide is GREAT. He leaves messages for us when we arrive at the resort. He returns phone calls promptly. We had an issue at SSR on our very first DVC stay and we just happened to mention it to him when he took us for the tour of the models for AKV that same trip....he was not happy about what happened, so he gave us three 15 buck gift cards for the inconvenience and some fast passes. He is the best.

from what i gather (based on the message i get whenever i call him), his primary function is to "sell the seas" aboard the DCL ships;)

:rotfl: I think we might have the same guide but if so....he always returns my calls promptly. I like him....he is very professional and we think does a great job.

As stated above, my guide has always been there for us when we need him but isn't intrusive. I see guides as those who facilitate the purchase of a DVC membership and any add-ons you may do. Once the purchase is made, Member Services takes care of all other needs. I know that some have said their guides have been in contact with them on a regular basis, but I do not believe that is the norm. I've also seen some say (on other threads) that they contact their guide if they have problems with their membership but I don't see that as the guide's role. They are the sales component and MS is the post-purchase component.
