The Pursuit of Disney Magic (June 7-14, 2008) ~ UPDATED 9/30 pg. 191

Yay! Your're home!:cool1:

I bought my dh Lego indiana Jones for the Wii for father's day.....I thought of you!:rotfl2:

From all reports from people who have just come back, I'd say they were neck in neck. That's what everyone has been saying - how HOT it was! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a cool snap to start in.... let's say about 13 days!!!

We're ready for the heat, though, and ready for the crowds. We're just ready to be out of real life and immersed in the magic once again! I look forward to hearing all about your trip.

:welcome:

I feel the same way you do -- if I have to brave heat and crowds to get my Disney fix -- so be it! :thumbsup2

I still can't get over the fact that you are still using film. Do you have them put the pictures on cd so you don't have to scan them for the TR?

Heidi,

This is why I keep you around :worship: -- being the nut that I am, I never thought of the CDs -- did them today when I got my prints done -- wow, it's been easy loading them onto Photobucket!

Waiting patiently for you!

We bought the Indiana Jones Wii game last week. Goofy and I have been really having fun with it!

Allyson :)

Connor has loved his -- he's been playing it again since we got home.

Promise me that you will start your TR before I leave? Pretty please, with Indy on top? :rotfl:

Starting it today! :goodvibes

Jackie, long time viewer, first time poster. ;)

I enjoyed reading all 105 pages of your PTR and can't wait for your actual TR! Your organization boggles the mind and makes me insanely jealous! I hope I can get through the next 6 months as well as you did!

:welcome: and thank you! All the organization helped pass the time until the trip.

Hiya again! Great teaser :)
I didn't think the heat was that bad- believe it or not... but I've been in July before where if you don't duck into shops every few minutes- you'll fry. :sunny:
Curious to hear about ADRs and nighttime shows! We surprisingly made all of ours!

And yes, we had a complete blast! So much fun, and actually (Aside from waking early in the summer) really relaxing. We had tons of downtime and only a few Morning-night in the parks. (And that was mainly Magic Kingdom) Crowds were so-so. Not terrible if you ask me, but then again, I've seen July and holiday crowds. Can't wait to read the rest of your report! :wizard:

Yeay! I am so glad that you had a good time. I thought the crowds weren't bad at all which was such a plus!

How did I not subscribe to this before???

I am glad to hear that you are back and I am going to read through the thread and catch up!

I can't wait to hear all about your trip!!!

:welcome:

I can't wait to tell everyone about it!

Ha ha!! I am here!!!

Are you going to do the TR here, or make a new thread??

:welcome:

I am just going to do the TR here -- I don't want to lose anyone by starting a new one.

That's easy. Me. Because I was NOT in Disney World.

Trick question. The answer is neither. At least last Monday. When it was 103 degrees where I was.

I'm selfishly glad you're back and yet selflessly I wish you were still there.

Can't wait for the pics!

:rotfl:

I am uploading the first ones right now! :thumbsup2

Just loved reading about your trip plans. My husband and I both teach and love Disney. I seem to be the one who comes home depressed and unable to connect with the real world though. We just got back on the 6th of June. I drove him crazy so we are going back July 14 for a week without children. I can't wait to read how your trip went!

:welcome: and thank you!

It is hard re-entering the real world. Hurray that you get to go back next month! I am jealous! Are you going to do a TR?

Yay! Your're home!:cool1:

I bought my dh Lego indiana Jones for the Wii for father's day.....I thought of you!:rotfl2:

Does he love it as much as my Connor does?

Florida. Without question. Though the company was infinitely better!

:rotfl2: Yes, the company was much better!

Two disclaimers need to be made before I start the trip report:

1. I have no food porn or drink porn to share with you. :worried: I was a bad, bad, bad Diser. I don't know what happened -- I am going to blame it on the heat -- but the camera never surfaced when food or drink were set in front of me.

2. The pictures are slow in coming. Day One: 1 picture. Day Two: 7 pictures. After that, they come a LOT more frequently. I took 200 pictures and obviously the bulk of them were after Sunday. I will try my hardest to paint visual pictures with words. :thumbsup2

So, all disclaimers aside, let's get this TR started in which our intrepid adventurers set forth and eat too much.

Saturday morning, I was up. The kids were up. Charles was up. Charles was playing a video game.

WHAT??? We're leaving for WDW, and he's on the computer??? Unshowered and unready???

Let me explain.

My husband is a gamer. He's played World of Warcraft, Lord of the Rings, and now he is hooked on a new one called Age of Conan. He claimed he needed to level before we left. :headache:

Departure Time: 7:00am. An hour after I originally planned to leave.

But remember, dear readers, I promised to just go with the flow on this vacation.

I'm flowing.

The drive down was completely uneventful except when I managed to curb the van when making a u-turn to get back on the highway, and possibly managing to find the MOST expensive gasoline on the freeway at $4.29 a gallon. No place else was that high.

Charles slept through south Georgia -- woke up to find we were in Florida. Lucky him.

Then, there it was -- our sign -- our great, big, Welcome to Disney World sign. We all whooped and hollered like we always do. I thought I would escape the ritual tearing up, but as soon as we drove under it, the tears started. I can't help it.

Walt Disney World is my happy place.

We arrived at POFQ at 2:45, and our room was ready. I made sure to make the CM note that we did not want to change rooms the next day when our package started. Woo hoo!

I now suspect that our room was ready because it was in the worst possible location. Second floor of Building 3 with a view of the parking lot and service areas. In retrospect, I should have gone back down and asked for a different room, but it was close to the bus stop, the pool, and the main building. That turned out to be quite nice during the week.

And I was going with the flow.

By the time we had unloaded the car and unpacked, it was almost time to leave. The kids and Charles were watching an episode of Tarzan. It was time to leave, and Charles is telling me that we can't until the episode is over.

Fine. I am flowing. I am flowing so much, I am like a river. :headache:

We finally leave and make it to Animal Kingdom Lodge in plenty of time.

Ahhh. AKL. I am staying there no matter what next time.

Here is my one picture of Day One -- the stunning light fixtures at Animal Kingdom Lodge. Enjoy! :rotfl:

Boma was superb as always. So superb that we ate and ate and ate and ate. Obviously, I have a problem with self-control when it comes to that place.

I listed what I ate in my travel journal. I warn you, it's a LONG list!

Chicken Pepperpot Stew (I could live on this stuff)
Lentil Salad
Hummus Salad
Chili Chicken Cilantro Salad

Those were my appetizers.

Nut-Crusted Salmon
Roast Chicken
Green Beans
Potatoes with Afritude (Very Spicy)

Those were my entrees.

Zebra Domes
Fruit Tarts
Banana Bread Pudding with Chocolate Rum Sauce
Amarula Pudding

Those were my desserts.

We were beyond full.

After dinner, we walked out to gaze at the animals. We didn't last long. The heat combined with all the food I had eaten was making me nauseous. I insisted that we head back to the room.

Once back in the room, I began to feel better so we took the kids to the pool. Charles and I had a couple of Pina Colavas to help us unwind and relax. There's nothing like drinks by the pool on that first night at WDW.

All was right in our world.

We're creeping up there here in the NE. Just over $4 a gallon right now. When we were in CT a couple of weeks ago it was $4.29!

I had a couple of Pina Colavas to help us unwind and relax. There's nothing like drinks by the pool on that first night at WDW.

Ooooooh. Colavas. Mmmmm.

Ahhh...I am feeling more at peace now that your TR is started.

First though, ONE PICTURE. That is just not the DIS way. :rotfl:

I have a feeling I am going to chicken out taking food pics when the time comes.

Are you going to keep a running tally of alcoholic drinks consumed? Whenever I thought of you last week, I wondered how you were doing on your drink list. ;)

Excellent! You started your trip with Boma and we ended with Boma. I so love AKL. I forgot how much until we were back there. It even seemed cooler (temperture wise).
Sorry about your room location! You know, the same thing happened to us but by the time the week was over, we were happy to give up a scenic view for a short walk from the bus stop!!
Looking forward to more! There will be pictures of POFQ, right? I need a fix.

Walt Disney World is my happy place.

I'm going to bawl like a newborn baby when we drive through there the first time... I'm not even going to try and fight it. My husband says I'm already more giddy and happy than he's seen me in a long time - I don't think I'd ever realized it before but Disney really IS my happy place, too!

The saga has started! Glad I could help with the picture CD idea.....and I'm glad you keep me around too ::yes::

YIKES! I had a whole reply posted right after you put the chapter up and my DSL flaked out on me.

:(

So what I was going to say is WOO HOO!!!

The start to CP's trip!:thumbsup2

So glad you started! Yeah!

We paid our highest yet at 4.17 yesterday. It hurts! 4.29, ouch!

Glad you had a good meal at Boma! I loved it last time too. So many wonderful flavors!

Off to a good start CP!

Allyson

Great start! Eating to excess capped off by a few cocktails is the way to go! :thumbsup2 I'm excited to see what else you were able to cross off the drink list!

I like your hubby but what's up with the let's finish an episode of Tarzan before we leave the hotel??? :rotfl: Not sure that the strongest of river currents could have "flowed" through that! ;)

By the way is "flowing" anything like "gellin'"?? As in the shoe insert commercials where nothing bothers people because their feet are in so much cushiony comfort? ;)

Keep 'em coming!! popcorn::

Thank you! I hope I can make mine as snazzy as yours! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the compliment, but are you kidding me? Look at the vast number of DISers who were begging you to start your TR! There's a reason you have such a large following, you know. ;)

Saturday morning, I was up. The kids were up. Charles was up. Charles was playing a video game.

:rotfl:

Great start! Glad you are very "flowy"... and I'm glad I'm not the only one who forgot to take pictures of foodstuffs. I just hadn't wanted to admit that yet on my TR. Now, when I do, I can throw in "But CP didn't either!" :rotfl:

I totally feel your pain being married to a gamer. He (DH) is addicted to WoW. Disney caused WoW withdrawls. He talked about character specs on the monorail and I nearly had to deck him. ANyway awesome about going with the flow! :goodvibes

-Becca-

Yeah, the trip report has started:cool1: . Can't wait to see how the rest of your trip goes, and more pictures. Don't you just LOVE Boma, I could eat about every meal there and not get bored with the food.

Melissa

Ooooooh. Colavas. Mmmmm.

We are still at $3.90 here in my neck of the woods, and it was $3.83 at the Hess on Disney property.

Those Colavas were tasty, but I am not a huge fan of raspberry.

Whenever I thought of you last week, I wondered how you were doing on your drink list. ;)

I know -- I know. :( The pictures do gradually increase though.

I should keep a running tally -- maybe in my final thoughts section I will add them up. :thumbsup2

mmmm drinks...

That is a great start... I was wondering how you would like Boma!

We love it! This was our second time eating there, and it was just as good as the first time.

Excellent! You started your trip with Boma and we ended with Boma. I so love AKL. I forgot how much until we were back there. It even seemed cooler (temperture wise).

The minute we walked under the overhang, I felt at peace.

Sorry about your room location! You know, the same thing happened to us but by the time the week was over, we were happy to give up a scenic view for a short walk from the bus stop!!
Looking forward to more! There will be pictures of POFQ, right? I need a fix.

It was just the initial walking out the door each morning that made me cringe. Once we had rounded the corner, I was fine.

I have a ton of POFQ pics to share. That place is just so lovely.

I'm going to bawl like a newborn baby when we drive through there the first time... I'm not even going to try and fight it. My husband says I'm already more giddy and happy than he's seen me in a long time - I don't think I'd ever realized it before but Disney really IS my happy place, too!

You will. You will. ::yes::

Disney always makes me act like a little kid again.

The saga has started! Glad I could help with the picture CD idea.....and I'm glad you keep me around too ::yes::

:lmao: There are lots of other reasons, too. :goodvibes

Good start -- good start!! :)

I'm happy now.

I forgive you for lack of photos. For now anyway.

Don't worry. It's like a slow moving avalanche. On Tuesday, I took four rolls of film!

I'm so glad you are "flowing" so well! Drinks by the pool is one of my favorite treats on vacation!

The flowing doesn't last the whole vacation. ;)

I decided that I need a Disney pool in my backyard complete with a pool bar!

YIKES! I had a whole reply posted right after you put the chapter up and my DSL flaked out on me.

:(

So what I was going to say is WOO HOO!!!

The start to CP's trip!:thumbsup2

The key will be whether I can pace my TR at an acceptable rate.

So glad you started! Yeah!

We paid our highest yet at 4.17 yesterday. It hurts! 4.29, ouch!

Glad you had a good meal at Boma! I loved it last time too. So many wonderful flavors!

Off to a good start CP!

Allyson

$4.17? :scared1:

I think I can honestly say that Boma is my favorite restaurant on Disney property. Charles has a new one, though.

Great start! Eating to excess capped off by a few cocktails is the way to go! :thumbsup2 I'm excited to see what else you were able to cross off the drink list!

One down, how many more to go? ;)

I like your hubby but what's up with the let's finish an episode of Tarzan before we leave the hotel??? :rotfl: Not sure that the strongest of river currents could have "flowed" through that! ;)

I looked at him incredulously when he said it, and he responded with, "But it's a good one." :rotfl:

By the way is "flowing" anything like "gellin'"?? As in the shoe insert commercials where nothing bothers people because their feet are in so much cushiony comfort? ;)

:lmao: Yes, that is how I imagine it.

Thanks for the compliment, but are you kidding me? Look at the vast number of DISers who were begging you to start your TR! There's a reason you have such a large following, you know. ;)

:rotfl:

Great start! Glad you are very "flowy"... and I'm glad I'm not the only one who forgot to take pictures of foodstuffs. I just hadn't wanted to admit that yet on my TR. Now, when I do, I can throw in "But CP didn't either!" :rotfl:

Awww, gee, thanks! :goodvibes Yours is fabulous, too!

Yes, you can now say that you aren't the only one who forgot. I wanted to get it off my chest at the beginning so that no one was wondering when the food porn would start.

I totally feel your pain being married to a gamer. He (DH) is addicted to WoW. Disney caused WoW withdrawls. He talked about character specs on the monorail and I nearly had to deck him. ANyway awesome about going with the flow! :goodvibes

-Becca-

That is too funny! Charles would make comments during the week like, "My rogue hunter misses me." "Ummm, no, your dog misses you, but not your alter-ego video game persona." :headache:

Yeah, the trip report has started:cool1: . Can't wait to see how the rest of your trip goes, and more pictures. Don't you just LOVE Boma, I could eat about every meal there and not get bored with the food.

Melissa

I could totally eat every meal there, too. The ambiance and the food are without compare.
