The Princess and the Frog

Just saw it today.

Loved it!

So many theme park tie ins available! I for one would love to see a restaurant!

Hey Rob and Scott! I didn't realize you were on a cruise NOW!!! Hope you are having a WONDERFUL time! :yay::yay::yay::yay:

So then O'Mike! Does pretty please qualify as asking nicely? :teeth:

DL has some pretty good Cajun restaurants, especially New Orleans Cafe' which has some of the best Chickory coffe, Mickey Ear Beniets, Pomme Frits and Gumbo that I've ever had. Their crepes are amazing too. There's another restaurant next door which we have yet to try, plus a small courtyard walk up type place that serves gumbo and other soups in a breadbowl. Does WDW not have a good cajun restaurant?

Boatwrights at Port Orleans....but it's nothing to write home about.

We saw the Princess and the Frog on Saturday and we loved it! OOOO Evangaline! I am tearing up right now......

I love some of the "nods" to the classics throughout this film. I want to see it again after reading about these since I didn't notice any of them while watching the film. I guess looking for something like this is the last thing I'm thinking about while watching a movie:

  • As the film’s title sequence is getting underway while Dr. John is singing “Down in New Orleans” – you can clearly see the carpet from Aladdinbeing shaken out by someone who’s standing on a wrought-iron balcony.
  • As Mama Odie is quickly digging through a pile of magical objects during “Dig a Little Deeper” – the lamp from “Aladdin” gets tossed to one side.
  • Duringthis movie’s Mardi Grashttp://www.mardigrasneworleans.com/ sequence – one of the floats in that parade features a figurehead that is clearly modeled after King Triton from “The Little Mermaid.”
  • What’s more, riding on that King Triton parade float are caricatured versions of John Musker & Ron Clements, the directors of “Aladdin,” “The Little Mermaid” and “The Princess and the Frog.”
  • In the film’s finale, Louis can be seen playing with a jazz band at Tiana’s restaurant. The lettering on the bass drum says that this band is called “The Firefly Five Plus Lou.” Which is obviously an affectionate tip of the hat to the Firehouse Five Plus Two, that ragtime band from the 1940s & 1950s which was made up of Disney Animation employees.

  • What’s more, the piano player in the “Firefly Five Plus Lou” is a caricature of Disney Legend Frank Thomas. Who was the piano player for the Firehouse Five Plus Two.

Oh and one more that I actually did see, was the toy in Charlotte's room when they were kids. It was a toy Cinderella's Coach on the floor.

I also thought I caught a glimspe of a Sleeping Beauty doll and one of the princess dresses that was made for her was an exact replica of Repunzel's dress from the new movie.

Going back just to look for all the in jokes.

I love some of the "nods" to the classics throughout this film.

I noticed some of the "nods" too! During the scene where the trumpet playing alligator (his name escapes me now) was on the riverboat performing and several jazz band members smiled at him and said "great costume!" the jazz band guys were wearing costumes from The Lion King! I saw Simba, Zazu and there was one other that I can't recall.

I also couldn't help but think of Cinderella when Tiana used a pumpkin to make gumbo in the bayou.

And of course, wishing on a star is from Pinocchio.

I started laughing when Big Daddy screamed "Stellllllaaaaaa!" when Stella the dog ran around chasing frog Tiana and Naveen. Perfect nod to Tennessee Williams' "A Streetcar Named Desire."

I'm very excited for when the movie comes out on DVD, I want to see if I can spot other nods. :thumbsup2

I cant believe what I’m reading here,, the whole point of online forums is no one knows what sexuality you are & to be honest, what difference does it make,, you are affectively creating or asking folk to discriminate at you for segregating yourself from the rest of the forum by stating you have the freedom to come together,, are you some sort of other species,, I don’t get it,, its like the "black police officers association", blatantly saying your different from the "Norm",, its not a "were different & proud" but more like "don’t look at me that way",, cant you see that,, your argument is not defensive but more offensive,,

There are plenty of forums within these boards for TV, movie & believe it or not Disney,,

You have just totally contradicted yourself about the "harassment from anyone" argument as you say G&Ls can come together,, tell me,, what can you discuss here that has no relevance to straights (as you put it),, if you cant see that you are small minded,,

I don’t know were your from but since most of these boards are peeps from the US i can tell you that here in the UK G&Ls or from what I have seen don’t feel the need to be so secluded from society,,

To end my whole point was I clicked on new posts,, seen the princess & the frog in the G&L forum & was intrigued what G&L type of topic the film was expressing,,
I mean I’m sure in your community you develop friends with who you enjoy speaking with but is this whole message boards not good enough to discuss this topic with other than saying “we don’t mind if straights come in here”,, eee HELLO,, that’s how discrimination started, with people pre empting what others may think or say,,

On a similar story I was on a flight were behind me 4 coloured ladies were sat,, now I have no problem with anyone, race, creed or religion we are all human but when the flight landed & most of us were standing waiting to depart one of the younger (28ish) ladies spoke at the top of her voice to another passenger (male, white 50s) DO NOT LOOK DOWN ON MY MOTHER, DO YOU THINK SHE IS BENEATH YOU,, well, I felt so embarrassed for all those people because yes,, the older lady was sat down & the fellow sat standing, so if he looked at her he would be looking down on here but not in the way the young lady was getting at & this type of behaviour is were racism has stemmed from,, so like your we community here, from an outsiders view you are indeed asking to be judged by your own behaviour,,

Or am I not seeing the whole picture here,, you say "our or your forum" maybe because im british i dont get it,, is there an ethnic minority forum too,, i dont think this page was designed for how your describing it or using it for that matter,,

Answer this then: What makes you different from me?

you're an idiot

So far, so good! About to take a nap in our cabin after some light shopping in Nassau. (bought flip flops and rum cakes LOL). They're not showing the movie until Tuesday NIcht. We did see the Golden Mickey's last night, however. And tonight we'll skip seeing Toy Story, the Musical (because it's just dreadful. We almost walked out of it last year when we saw it for the first time.)

Talk to y'all soon!

p.s. I did send a pic message via text to OrlandoMike of us at the Sail Away party. Maybe if you ask nicely, he'll post it.
I did walk out of the toy story musical back in march!!!!

Just a reminder kids...

Please dont attack other posters.

Debate, sure, but dont attack. If you see a real problem let a mod know, thats why we are here.

Now back on topic. My only fault with the movie is the songs are too short! But having watched the Showboat Jubilee at the MK, I had the songs in my head....so I was hoping for more!

I agree. The songs were way too short. Just as you're getting into one of them, it ends.:sad2:

I did end up going to see it on Tuesday. Oh man..... She was clinging onto me because she was scared of the shadows :faint: But I thought it was a really good movie. Very old school Disney. I loved it. 2 thumbs wayyyyy up :goodvibes

And in the closing credits when they were showing illustrations there was one of a shack on the bayou with a rocking chair on the porch that camoe out of the pirates of the caribbean ride.

And then I got to thinking, that was the worst villain yet. I can't think of any other disney animated film where the villain actually does what he did, without going into a spoiler.
