The Pope has ticked me off!

Why do I stay with the Catholic faith? It surely must be the cathecism I've learned and love. It certainly isn't the "leaders" of the church.

Bishop O'Malley has only been here nine months, and the Pope is moving him out. I'm sure other Catholics in our Diosese of Palm Beach feel the same as I do. It feels like another slap in the face to have him leave. When will they have our diosese settled? He's on his way back to MA although in another diosese than he was previously. When are they going to appoint a Bishop here who will STAY! I've heard that there are approximately 6 Bishops floating to clean up the messes in the dioseses. However, I don't want to give him up. What about the other five? I just can't wait to see his name also whited out on the local Catholic high school's sign out front. :( I'm less than thrilled as of late. Right now all I feel is anger. :(

Update...we have Bishop-elect Gerald Barbarito. How long will he be here? Two months? He's been Bishop of Ogdensburg, NY...a good thing in my book. My parents have a friend who was a priest there. Keith and I almost got married there. I'm still ticked.

Bishop O'Malley was our Bishop for many years before leaving for FL. From what I understand, he was brought in to clean up the Fr. Porter fiasco (the first pedophile case that got everything started) and they were "rewarding" him with a nice, cushy spot in warm Florida. I guess they think they need him to clean up the Boston diocese now. Poor guy! Not a job that anyone would envy.

I agree with you about the "leaders". I often wonder why I stay around also but I love OUR parish, the community of our church and our own priest. I do not contribute to any collections which go outside of our parish because I can't be sure that the money won't be used for defense funds, etc. It's very sad. I'm so angry and embarrased about our church sometimes but for now, we're sticking it out, albeit with a cynical view and a huge dose of skepticism about anything they say.

read about that in the paper this morning. I had talked to my mother last night and she didn't mention anything about it. Maybe she did not know yet. She goes st. Ignatious in PBG.

I heard about it around 6:15 this morning on the news. Seems the announcement wasn't made much before that. I wish I "loved" my parish. There are others in town I prefer, but this parish has the greatest school, and that's where DS goes. So for the next 4 years I'm pretty much stuck in this one. It's the largest parish in Palm Beach County and seems to be the training ground for new priests in the diosese. Monsignor trains them, and then they're shipped out to other churches. I'd rather be at the more traditional church near my home, but they don't have a school.

That's odd you handt heard until this am. They made the official announcement this morning around 6 am, but the Boston stations were reporting yesterday that it was rumored O'Malley was coming up here.

I know what you mean though. It is very hard to be a Catholic lately! Its such a shame. Personally, I dont think real change will occur until we have a more progressive Pope, married priest and females in non-layperson leadership roles......but that's probably a subject better left for the debate board!

There was the rumor tree yesterday, but this morning it was official. I try to avoid the rumor tree. ;) The other part of yesterday's rumor was that we might be getting a Bishop who is currently in Miami. That didn't happen.

I am just disgusted with the Catholic Church in general anymore. It's a shame but I am looking to other options. :(

I'm so sorry you've gotten to that point, Kim. :( I understand though. I like tradition! Too much in my life has changed without my being able to prevent it. Maybe that's why I'm still hanging in there. Don't want more change just now.

I can understand your frustration in losing Bishop O'Malley after such a short period of time. He had been our Bishop for many years and confirmed my oldest son. His appointment has been the lead news story here for two days. A news report that I was just listening to said that, although it is not definite, he probably will now be elevated to Cardinal within the next few years.

I understand your frustration. Bishop O'Malley is a wonderful man. I met him many times when he was Bishop of my diocese. He's just the person to head the Arch diocese of Boston, who really needs a strong positive leader right now.

Did you say the Pope is ticking you off or How to take a tick off of the Pope??? :)

I would think you'd be happy for Bishop O'Malley. He is being handed a very difficult situation and the Pope must have tremendous confidence in his abilities. Being appointed to Boston is a promotion for Bishop O'Malley. The good bishops serve in more minor areas to learn their skills and are rewarded to appointments to large dioceses where they may eventually become Archbishops and/or Cardinals. The bishops serve the entire Catholic Church not just a small area and they vow obedience to accept where they are assigned.

You may be disappointed to lose him but I can't see why this would mean raging against the Pope. I would hope you could be proud for the man and hopeful that he will help to solve the problems the Church has been experiencing.

I am thrilled that Bishop O'Malley is coming to MA. I know it's hard for you to pass him to us, but please allow him to come and clean up!

As I tell my third grade CCD class, the church is not a building or those in power. To see who the church is, look at the middle of the word.

Who is the church? U R!

Those of you who are discouraged about the way things are happening in the Catholic Church, please don't give up on it! Hang in there!

He is the one appointing them. The mess here isn't even cleaned up. Just last week in the diosesan paper, they had an article on how he wanted to implement a differrent structure of those reporting to him. Gee...I guess we shouldn't change until the new one is in. It feels like we're usually getting the short end of the stick. Let's hope the next one is permanent and good!
