I need some opinions and I'm sure I'll get them here!! I was told that when you check in at the Poly they give you leis. Then, talking about it on the message boards alot of people said they didn't get leis when they checked into the poly and the few that did said they weren't even real. I was really disappointed when I heard this. This is my first time at the Poly and I've wanted to stay there since I was a little girl. Most little girls dream about their wedding...nope...not me....I dream about staying at the Poly!! Anyhows, I had an idea and want to know if you guys think it may be a bit "too much." I found a great website that sells real flower leis straight from Hawaii. I've ordered from them before and they're beautiful. I was thinking of ordering them for everyone in my family (5) and having them shipped directly to our room at the Poly. First of all, do you think I could do that? And second of all...should I do that? What do you think?:flower3:

Yes that would be a great idea. The chances of them being in your room though on arrival probably won't work. Until you are checked in any one can be assigned that room. So someone else may get your surprise. Maybe you could arrange to go out for awhile and the leis would be waiting for you upon your return.

I think if that is what you want to do, do it! I don't think it is too much. I think it is a cute idea.

We have been given lei's everytime we go to the Polynesian. It is true though that they are not real. However, when they are not real you can keep them forever as a reminder of your trip. BUT, if you would like to have them delivered...do it! Are you going to do the luau? I would suggest having them delivered on the day you do the luau so you can wear them out and everyone can see how beautiful they are!

The ones the Poly gives out are fake and itchy. I think it would be fun to have the real ones. I like MosMom's idea of wearing them to the luau!

We're not going to the luau (did that last time) but the day we get there we're going to O'Hana's. What about wearing them there? Also, what about having them delivered to the front desk? Do you think that's a possibility? Can you imagine if we're checking in with other people and they give them the fake leis and we get the real leis. There might be a war!!

We had food delivered when we stayed at the Polynesian and that worked out great. So, I say go for it. We are one of the families that did not get leis upon check-in. But we saw many people walking around with them on, so some must have gotten them. The ones we got at the luau were exactly the same as the check-in ones...fake and kind of itchy. But, to be honest...it is nice to see it hanging on my bureau mirror at home. If it had been real I couldn't do that!!

Yeap, I think they would be just as cool at 'Ohana's!

Quote from my DH, who wanted to post: "One of the things I love about WDW is the manufactured fantasy aspect and the attempt to mimic an idealized reality. I know that the Hall of Presidents is not live, but I still get misty from it. I get that the Tree of Life is a sculpture, albeit a beautiful one. In this regard, I want the Poly to be kitschy. It's all part of the escape from reality for me. I will love the "Alohas" I get from CMs who are doubtfully Polynesian themselves, and I will give back as joyfully in my response. I want the faux leis that will hang from my bureau mirror to remind me of that time as well. None of this is bad for me. In fact, it is one of the main reasons I come to WDW for me. I can't wait to walk down "Main Street, U.S.A." and see an incongruously placed replica of a Bavarian castle at the end. I'm sure it will still give me that special feeling. Call me crazy."

Well said iloveeyore's DH! Great post! :D And I too have my fake lei hanging from my mirror. ;)

As for getting them vs not getting them, we were once told when checking in to go over to the counter near the front door(to the right of the door if youre inside, facing the door) and ask for them. They will give you some there. Also, right in that kiddie area our kids made leis and little lei wrist bands. So if you dont get them upon check in you might want to try there. Good luck!

I'd wear the lei everywhere! It's like a coursage. Enjoy the fragrance and beauty.

I think that desk is called the "Island Guides". -Stephanie

Hey Tikiman: I've been to your Poly site before. It's a great site. I love it. I have all my kids gather round the computer to see the pics of the Poly. I will definetly go to the link you gave me. I'm so glad you read my post. Thanks.

Gjerseygirl,

I am glad you liked my web pages. I had to remove the link because the DIS does not like links to sites that have travel companies that are not Dreams Unlimited. So you can email me or go to my web page to get the link to the travel-planning package that will give you fresh flower leis from Hawaii with your booking. Also if I can help answer any Polynesian questions feel free to send me a message.

Email me at steves5150@yahoo.com

Aloha

I just went on the site but I already have my vacation booked and I'm doing the whole AP thing. I suppose I can't do that through that site. Anyhows, I did go on the site for Gecko Farms and the leis are beautiful and not expensive so that's a thought to order from them. That is a great idea to have the package come with real leis. Good job Tikiman!! And...I can still get the fake itchy ones to take home!!

I use to book for myself and use an AAA rate but I found the travel company to help get an even better deal and take care of anything else I needed. They used my AAA to get me a reservation through Disney and a few months later found an AP rate and switched it over for me using the AP rate so yes you can book using an AP rate through the travel planner and it cost no more than doing it yourself. You just get the extras for free.

Aloha

You might run into a problem with this for a couple reasons.

First, be sure that the company can ship to Florida. Many can't send any live plant materials (fruits, veggies, flowers, etc.) to the state of FLorida.

Second, it can take some time after you check in to have a package delivered to your room, and you have to be in the room to have it delivered. So you might end up having to hang around teh room waiting for delivery.

When we checked in last Sunday they had leis and were definitely handing them out. We saw red, yellow and white.

Otherwise, it's a great idea!

Anne

Hey Anne,

IF she ordered thought the link on my site I have already talked to the owner in Hawaii and they can ship to Florida. In fact they know about the arrangement we have with sending the leis as part of the package. Also I have had things delivered to our room in WDW and we were never in the room when they came.

Steve,

They used to just leave things in the room, but about a year ago they changed the policy and now you have to be in the room to have things left in almost all cases.

Anne

I am working with the Polynesian to see if something can be worked out.

What do they do if they can not deliver the stuff, leave it at the front desk?

Steve
