The Poly and Leis

No, they are left in a storage room. When you get into your room you call for them, and they deliver them. I had this happen with flowers from the Disney Florist, a Fed Ex package, etc. It can take up to a few hours, depending on how busy they are.

With the Fed Ex package they said it was too busy to leave it at the front desk, it would get lost in the shuffle. :(

Once when we arrived late in the evening, they couldn't bring the flowers until the next day as they were locked up in the storage room, which apparantly is run by housekeeping who had gone home.

Folks, FYI, while we were visiting a few weeks ago, we got to see some fresh flower leis being made. While the kids were making the silk flower bracelets in the lobby, cast member Auntie (Wini?) was making fresh flower leis. She said they prick your fingers so are not really a kid-craft, but it was fun to watch. She had lots of greenery which she was cutting into little squares to layer with the flower petals. All of this was strung on thin, firm wire. We got a kick out of watching this. I suppose someone on a lei-quest could order some flowers and make fresh leis! :)

Tikiman, thanks again for your great site. We had a ball at the Polynesian and I really enjoyed your site for planning.

When you're staying in the concierge building, I assume they will have leis there (the concierge check-in desk) to hand out to the concierge guests?? Call me corny, but I'm really looking forward to the fake-flower leis when we arrive at the Polynesian!! :sunny:

Does anyone else besides me remember actual flower leis many years ago? I'm almost positive about this.

Then for a short time, they handed out the leis made out of tiny shells....the kind that were given out at the luau.

We sometimes are offered leis and sometimes not. This has happened in regular rooms as well as concierge. If no one offers and you want one, just ask!::yes::

Aloha!

I remember and still have the shell leis from the mid 90's. Never saw real leis though.

my fiance and I are getting married at sunset pointe, and staying at the poly for the 1st time, in a little over a year (but i'm getting kicked out of the room the night before the wedding. stupid can't see the bride tridations  ). since i'm she's gonna be in the room all morning getting ready, do you think that the lei makers in the lobby would be able to help me make one for her? my fiance's already said she'd like to wear one to fit in with the theme (we're even gonna try to get the male ukelele player from 'ohana to play instead of the violin they give you with the package, permitting the wedding department, and the guy is up for it).

While not as beautiful as a live flower one, the gift shops at the Polynesian have beautiful silk flower ones.

When we arrived at Hawaii they came rushing over with the leis almost before we were in the doors :)

Real Leis! Real Leis! Real Leis! If anyone is going to buy the silk ones, they have really nice ones in the Oriental Trading Catalog. Jeez, they come in lots of like 50 so I could buy those and give them out to everyone that doesn't get one. I'm still unsure of what I'm gonna do. I would actually prefer them to deliver them to the front desk and we get them at check in but...whatever. One the site where you buy them that I got from Tikiman, they said the the fragrant ones don't travel well, so that was kind of a bummer. You'd be lucky if they make the trip over. But the orchid ones are really beautiful but don't smell as sweet. I'm sure there's some way I could preserve them also if I wanted to save them. The good news is that they don't handle the heat well and I'm going in Nov. so it shouldn't be too hot. What to do...what to do.....

Well I just spoke with the Polynesian and they said the only time they do not deliver to the room if the guest is not in the room is if it is alcohol or the delivery is before the guest checks in. They want the guest to have checked in so they know it is the right guest. Otherwise deliveries can be made with out the person in the room.

gjerseygirl,

The fragrant ones usually have tuberose in them and they only last a day or two. The leis in the package are ones that will last a while and the ones for the men last months. I still have one from out Hawaiian Christmas.

Aloha

Hi. I think you had a great idea, gjerseygirl. I had been thinking of doing the same thing--ordering a real lei for the Poly. Today, I finally ordered the lei and it will hopefully be delivered to the Polynesian on the day we arrive (in one week!). When I get back, maybe I can let everyone know how it worked. Good luck and have a great trip!

Please let me know how it worked out. Where did you order your leis from. Did they give you a good deal. Also, let me know how well it held up in shipping and how many days it lasted. Enjoy!!

Hi. My family just got back yesterday (wish I was still there). I was at the Poly (concierge) last weekend for 3 days, then we went to the Floridian for 4 days. My experience with the leis did not quite turn out as expected. To begin, I was supposed to get the lei last Friday, but the company, Gecko Farms, apparently never got my order, even though I had a final confirmation printed out! However, Gecko Farms was very nice about everything. They said that this was very unusual, and they offered to send a lei free of charge first thing the next week. However, since I wasn't still going to be at the Poly when the flowers arrived, I had to have them send the flowers to the Floridian. Fortunately, we still got the fake leis, which are also a very nice touch. The next week, the flowers arrived just as promised. They were absolutely beautiful and lasted 3-4 days (4th day they looked a little peaked). Both the Poly and the Floridian were very nice about checking for the package. The Poly checked their computer to see if a package had arrived, and the girl who helped me at the Floridian concierge, when the flowers came in, was nice enough to run over and get the package for me right away when I asked about it. If you do get the leis delivered, I don't think I would worry about delivery being a problem at either place. If you know that a package is supposed to be waiting, they seem very willing to help you find it. Hope this helps some!

Just got back and Gecko Farms did the leis for the “Tiki Plan” and they told the Polynesian they were going to ship them on Monday so they would not sit in a loading dock over the weekend so we got them the day after we checked in. They Polynesian asked if we wanted them delivered to the room and I said that was fine because I was heading up to Kona Café but instead they brought them to us in Kona which was a nice surprise. There was no problem with them delivering them to the room if you are not there. We wore them to the Spirit of Aloha Show the next night and they were great. They sat in the room till we left and held up well the whole time even out of the refrigerator.

Aloha

Steve

Welcome back Tikiman! I can't wait to hear about your trip :p We're going to the Poly for the first time in October!

I found out about the Tiki Plan after I had already booked my trip. Oh well next time, but I found the Gecko Farms website so maybe I'll just order the leis there as a surprise :)
