We started today with a trip to the gym at SSR, so didn’t get to IHOP until about 10.30 – very late for us and we were absolutely ravenous. There was a long line out the door but they had us sitting at the table in less than 10 minutes – yey!
I ordered a “three eggs and pancakes” combo – three eggs which I had over-easy, three strips of bacon (could have had sausage instead) and three pancakes – I paid a little extra for the Cinn-a-Stack pancakes.
You can see the thick layer of cinnammon on these!!
I can’t remember exactly what Tony had – it was one of the combo’s containing egg, sausage and hash brown, with blueberry pancakes, and a side of white toast.
This was really, really nice! The eggs were nicely cooked and still had soft centres for dipping the toast in, the bacon was actually the nicest I have had in the US, as it wasn’t too crispy. And the pancakes. Ohh goodness the pancakes. They had a thick layer of sticky cinnamon between each one, like the stuff in the middle of a cinnabon. These were utterly heavenly!!! I think I ate every bite of this meal, and then wobbled out of the restaurant! 9/10.
Tony really enjoyed his and says the food was all very fresh and hot – 8/10.
We spent most of today in the many, many malls of Orlando. About 2pm we shared a cinnamon pretzel from Auntie Anne’s in the Florida Mall, with a little pot of frosting to dip it in. Very nice and fresh. This is one of the few treats we can get where I live, so was good to know they taste the same – now whenever I have one I can pretend I’m in Orlando!
About 4pm we made it to DTD for a very late lunch! We went to the Earl and shared – that’s right, shared!! – an Original “ “, a brownie, and a pack of chips. This was my first Original of the year and it was stuffed full of meat and really hot – delish! The brownie was perfect – moist and gooey; the one with frosting was nice earlier in the week, but in my eyes why mess with perfection?! I give this 9/10. Poor Tony isn’t so keen on horseradish so didn’t enjoy it that much – just 6/10. Because I like horseradish I never realised how strong the taste of it in the sandwich is but apparently it’s quite bad for non-lovers!!
Because we had eaten so late we called and changed out House of Blues ADR to 8.30. I was really excited about going here, as we have loved it the last few years.
We were seated straight away. We ordered the rosemary skillet cornbread to share (LOVE this cornbread), and baby back ribs. They have changed the menu since last year and now – would you believe – no potato products with the ribs! No mash, no fries – instead they come with beans, corn and blue-cheese coleslaw, and if you want fries etc you have to pay extra AND take of one of the side dishes it comes with!!!! Well I wasn’t overly amused - definitely not a change for the better! Who doesn’t want potato with their ribs? I took the beans off my order, and added sweet potato fries on. Tony also had the ribs – he took off the coleslaw and added fries.
The cornbread was a little disappointing to be honest – it was a bit dry. It felt like it had been made quite a while, and had just been standing under the lights waiting to be ordered.
The ribs were lovely – humongous portion, a great flavour, really tender – just fell off the bone. I always say these are the best ribs in Disney, and they still are! The sweet potato fries were disappointing – really soggy. The corn was lovely – soft and buttery. The coleslaw just tasted like normal coleslaw – couldn’t taste the blue-cheese at all. I give the meal 8/10, and usually I give it a 9 or 10. Apart from the ribs and corn it had definitely gone a little downhill and i didn't like having to pay extra for my fries!.
Tony really enjoyed his, so maybe I should have had proper fries instead of sweet potato! He gave the meal 9/10 and said it was excellent.
Service was OK. The waitress was really sweet. We waited ages for our entrees though, and at the end she just brought us the bill, instead of asking if we wanted a dessert! We had a restaurant.com voucher to use for $25 which I have been keeping safe since March – a Disser very kindly bought and sent it to me, as I was having trouble registering with the website due to having a UK address. So we handed this over to the waitress, and she came back and said they couldn’t accept it as it had been used in August! Well I know that wasn’t right as we haven’t been to Orlando since May 2009, but not much we could do about it so we had to pay full price! This tainted the evening a little bit – I felt like a criminal trying to use a voucher that was already used! To be honest the bill here was quite expensive for what we had – one course each, sharing a side, extra for fries, Tony had two drinks and I had one – and it was well over $100. Much as I usually enjoy it here, next time I think we will give it a miss and go to Tony Romas for ribs – the same quality for half the price! If it was on the
DDP then I would return again, but its a lot to pay OOP.
As HoB obviously didn’t want our desert money we decided to go to Ghirardellis – our first one of the trip! We shared a mint-bliss (mint chip icecream, choc icecream, dark chocolate hot fudge sauce, cream and a mint chocolate on top), and substituted the dark fudge sauce for normal sauce. This was really good – mint icecream is definitely one of our favourites, and loads of fudge sauce! I have had this before and would definitely have it again!!! It seemed to go on forever though as I was quite full – I am definitely glad we shared! 9/10 from both of us!!
Up tomorrow – POFQ breakfast, Wolfgang Pucks lunch, and Chef Mickey dinner!
