The Piggies are back . . . and this time they're hungry! 12 DAYS OF FOOD! UPDATED!

Hi Sonya! Big fan of your reviews here! :wave2: I plan on doing a dining review after our Disneymoon next fall, and I hope its as good as yours... Great job so far!

Hi Sonya!

Sorry I have been missing. We have been to Disneyland Paris for a bit of Halloween Fun! ;)

Love the new reviews - we have never been to CP, but that flan looks really tempting.
I wish we could make it to F&W once, but with my teaching schedule it is impossible, so I live vividly through your reports! Thank you so much for taking the time!

Hi Sonya

I'm loving this as usual! I also love the coconut flan at CP. I wish I could eat 4 pieces - maybe next time I should get dessert first so that if I get too full, at least I have had the best stuff! ;)

My daughter had the lamb slider too, but hers looked very different. It was very dark and my photos were terrible, but she didn't want the chutney or the roll. One of the CMs actually pulled it back with a "What's going on here?" look on his face when they passed it to us. :rotfl:

At least you two made some progress around the F&W. We didn't do very well - defeated after 2 booths. :guilty: Maybe next year, as long as it's on when we go again.

We didn't order anything from the caramell shop. Like you said, lines were long and didn't die down at any point in the day, but that picture ...... mmmmmm!

Just read the whole thread......don't know how I missed the start :confused3
Boy.............am I hungry now!!! :lmao:
DW spent a good 15 minutes pacing up and down the display in the caramel shop
Looking forward to the next update :thumbsup2

I literally had shivers run though my body when you showed the case in the caramel shop! That marshmallow/caramel treat looked delicious! Loving your report

Loving the reviews!

I can't wait to head over to the new Karamell-Kuche - I *LOVE* caramel, especially as I grew up with W Originals :cloud9:

On a side note, I read the booklet for this years Food and Wine Festival and on the back it says to get ready for the 2011 F&W Festival, starting on the 30th September :thumbsup2

Love all of your reviews so far. Taking notes for the trip I'm trying to put together for late June 2011. My daughter and I are caramel fans and are already planning our visit to buy the exact same thing you did.:yay:

I have the Ohana update all ready to go but somehow have exceeded the limit of photobucket (that's never happened to me before!!) so need to open another account with a different email address. In the meantime will answer these . . .

thanks for a wonderful update, The lamp chop looks yummy..

Oh it was. I never usually have lamb at home so I was determined to have it as much as I could that day!

great reviews, fab eating day

there was a new report a couple of weeks ago about purple potatoes and purple sprouts being ready for christmas.

Purple sprouts?!!! No way! I will look out for them at Christmas!!!

Hello!! :goodvibes

Sonya,

Those are naturally purple potatoes called Peruvian Purples. I have been told they taste the same as the white ones, but obviously not. I've only had them as chips (crisps?) However, they do have higher anti-oxidants, like blueberries (according to my chip bag!)

Keep the food pics up...I'm drooling!!!:cool1:

I feel I should have tried them with a more open mind - I'm a bit disappointed in myself!! They just threw me a bit!!

Great update :goodvibes

Mmmmmmm Werthers :cool1:

Thanks! Ohh werthers!! I am so going back there at Christmas!

Great review. keep it coming:thumbsup2

Cheers!:goodvibes

I'm a fellow caramel fan and I just LOVED this place! (Yes, by the way, we do have Werthers around here, but not a ton of it.) The smell was amazing, as were all the treats! We had a caramel/chocolate pretzel, a big square of dark chocolate-covered caramel, and an oatmeal apple cookie with caramel in the center. The pretzel was the best, but it was all so good! The apples looked sooooo good, but after spending about twice the amount of time as you eating around the world, we were just too full to take on something that big! I admire you for only buying the one thing.

Funny, other than the braised short ribs in France and the Bison Chili in the US, we got all different things than you! I wish I had tried that coconut-braised beef at the Singapore stand, and I wanted to try the lamb chop in Australia, but the line was much too long when we got there! One day of grazing the booths is not enough. Next time, I'm planning for at least two!

Well most of the stands had two entrees, one of which was seafood, so we were a tiny bit limited. The coconut beef was lovely! We have a whole other F&W lunch to come yet - yey!!

I am so jealous of everything you bought in the caramel shop! What was the best thing you had, because I plan to go there again at Christmas?

I've had purple potatoes. They are very similar to the white, but taste slightly different, just as yukon golds taste different than white which taste different than red. I really like them, but I love potatoes in general. They make nice lavender colored mashed potatoes!

Oh yes, that would make great mash! Now that I want to try!

Leave in 2 weeks and love your reviews. Thanks

Thanks! :goodvibes

Oh you will both love it! I am going to sample a few more things at Christmas!!!

That night we went to Ohanas - we had a great meal here last year and were really keen to return!

Unlike last year when we waited over 30 minutes we were seated within 10 minutes of our ADR time. Our table was right near the grills which was great for me - anything to cover up the air-con a bit!!!

For drinks we both had the pomegranate lemonade. To my knowledge this is new to Disney restaurants in the last year, and is a superb addition - tastes just like fizzy sherbet! Lovely!! After discovering this at tonight's meal we had it almost every other night of our trip!

Service here was pretty good, apart from one funny story which I shall get to in a minute . . .

First up came the bread. Now this was a bit of a let down this year - is it me or does it usually come with some sort of flavoured butter? Maybe I'm thinking of somewhere else. Tony requested some normal butter as nothing arrived with the bread, and I think I ate mine plain. I didn't enjoy the flavour of this very much at all this year. Then came the salad - ohh I love the dressing on this salad (honey and lime). This was lovely, and loads to go around! Nice fresh, crisp salad, and a great tasting dressing! The sauces arrived - House Made Peanut Sauce, Chimichurri Sauce, Pineapple Sweet and Sour Sauce. The server told us which was best with which meat (I can't remember now!) so we followed what he said and he was right - they really added to the taste of the meat.

Next up came the wings and pork dumplings. I absolutely loved these dumplings last year . . . they were still good just not quite as god this year - they were just a little bit dried out. I think they had been standing around a while before we arrived. However I still ate most of them!! I am blessed by having a husband who isn't that bothered about wings, so I polished off about three-quarters of these! I just love the sweet and sticky sauce on them, and the meat fell off the bone - lovely!

Then the meat started arriving. At this point I told the server (not the main one, but the helper one who brings the foods around) that we didn't like seafood so no point bringing us the shrimps. He nodded and went off . . .

First up we got marinated sirloin steak. We both thought this was absolutely lovely. Really tender, beautifully flavoured, and cooked perfectly well (medium). Then came the Asian BBQ pork loin - again we thought this was really good. It was just really tender and again had a great flavour. Then the oak-grilled chicken arrived - I can take or leave chicken but even this was nice! Tony loved it. All three are on here . . .
P1050796.jpg

The noodles were lovely - they also have a great sauce / dressing on them. The veg were cooked to perfection as well, just a little bit of bite left in them.

Then the assistant server asked if we wanted anything else . . . Tony asked for "more noodles and steak please". Along the server came . . . do you spot the problem?!!!!!!
P1050798.jpg

He literally piled shrimp on to Tony's plate!! Piled it!!! We didn't know what to say - it was too late to say we don't like it (again) as he had put it on before we realized what was happening. He tried to put some on mine but I managed to gasp "no thanks"! Well we just looked at each other in silence and horror once he left, and then cracked up laughing! All their little eyes and bodies were staring up at us - arghhhhh!!:scared1: Obviously "steak" sounds like "shrimp" in a loud restaurant!!Then - and this is the worst - he obviously thought we had asked for them, so we didn't want to look like we hadn't eaten any and had just wasted them - so Tony got me to peel some of them so they looked eaten!! :scared1:There I am out for a romantic(ish) dinner, pulling the heads off creatures - ugh!!!! :rotfl2:Only us!!!! It was so funny!! Eventually some more steak arrived as well (plenty of it!!), so Tony was happy!!

Once I'd been and washed the shrimp stench off my fingers the thing I had come for arrived . . . Bread Pudding with Bananas Foster. This is SO good. I may go as far to say this is the best dessert in Disney . . its certainly close to the best and right now I can't think of any better!! The bread part was really stodgy and smooth, and somehow creamy. I loved every bite of this. The icecream melted against its warmth and went with it perfectly, as did the banana sauce. Every bite of this was good, and if we hadn't been in a race to get to the Haunted Carriage ride we may well have taken our server up on his offer of bringing a second one (he had obviously noticed our general piggery by this point!!).

All in all we had am absolutely excellent night. Brilliant, attentive service, and most of the food was lovely. Actually, reading my own review I want to book here again for our Christmas trip!!! We both give this 9/10 (loses a point for the awful singing woman, whose show we had to sit through TWICE!! and the dry pork dumplings)!

thanks for the update, I guess the server thought you don't want the shrimp but your husband did...sorry for that. We never tried Ohana b/c my husband never had a desire to go there...I was able to score an ADR there and when I was reading off the ADR's and asked my husband what he thought he said lets not try Ohana but he said he'll try LeCellier...

Great review! :goodvibes
Ohana can be a hit or miss sometimes, but it looks you got there on a really good day!

I couldn't agree with you more on the bread pudding - it is devine! Could well be the best dessert at Disney! :thumbsup2

Sonya, do you recall how many tables your server was serving on?
Last year we had a fantastic meal at Ohana, this year the server was trying to deal with 8 tables and fetching all the meat, last year the server had runners for the meat. Service was so bad we have said we are not going again next year.
We also got sat right in the centre next to where the kids congregate for the "show" worst place you can be sat when you hate that sort of thing, surrounded by parents trying to take photos of their kids just stood there doing nothing while some crazy woman tries to sing & dance(she can't do either)
Shame we had bad service and we don't like the show because we love the food there.

Great update! I have been hoping to try O'hana someday, maybe next trip. My DH would love it because dumplings and wings are 2 of his most favorite things to eat.

OMG, SONYA! I literally burst out laughing-- THE SAME EXACT THING HAPPENED TO US IN 2009! We were at Ohana, received only one piece of steak each (which happened to be the only thing we actually liked. Discovered Polynesian food is not for us!). When the helper came by to check on us, he asked "Hey, do you guys want more steak?" We emphatically said yes, more steak please.
He returns 20 minutes later with shrimp. We said no thanks, he got huffy, stormed off, and we never saw him again...Needless to say, not the best meal!
It must be the same culprit!
That bread pudding is PHENOMENAL though. Definitely my favorite Disney dessert. Almost makes me want to go back to Ohana. Almost.

Thank you for your review of Ohana, hoping for a great experirence on Monday night with them.
