The Piggies are back . . . and this time they're hungry! 12 DAYS OF FOOD! UPDATED!

The picture with your husband and the pile of shrimp is very funny. I'm glad he eventually got the steak he really wanted. Ohana looks like a place I have to add to my list - the bread pudding alone makes it worth a visit. Thanks for the review!

We decided to do the QSDP this trip, however we are paying OOP for a few TS meals. I have never tried Ohana's before, but it looks great. :) There are usually a ton of children running through the restaurant when I've been by there. Was is really crowded for dinner?

Michelle

O'hana is near the top of our ADR list (of 19 restaurants!) for next September. We really enjoyed it last year, though the service regarding the meat being brought around was slow. We were only given 1 piece of everything (apart from the shrimp...we're not fans either) and they didn't come back round either. Hoping to better service next time, though to be fair it wasn't awful :upsidedow

I NEED my chicken wing fix NOW!

Sorry, I'm so very late to the party Sonya, but even without the pictures am loving your review:thumbsup2

So, we agree

magic cookie bar= :lovestruc:lovestruc

caramel =:lovestruc:lovestruc:lovestruc

cannot wait to see the rest. TYFS.

i thought i was the only one who couldn't see the pictures! how is that happening?

Sorry! Apparently I have exceeded my photobucket limit - photos will be back on the 19th! Have started a new photobucket account in the meantime so all photos from Ohana will appear!! Its so annoying - not sure how its happened; I did the whole report last year and didn't go over the limit once!!

Isn't that singing lady horrible?! And I also noticed that they didn't give us any butter with the bread. I thought they forgot, but maybe they've stopped giving it? That doesn't make sense :confused3 I think it's HYSTERICAL that the two of you tore apart the shrimp so they would think you had eaten some!!!! You two are just too sweet!

We found the steak kind of fatty. The pork was my favorite! Love those chicken wings. And the bread pudding, of course! Our server also seemed crazily over worked. We barely saw him and when we did he seemed to just throw stuff on the table as he was running past!:rotfl:

Oh, my favorite of the caramel offerings was the pretzel. It was fabulous!

And I just read on All Ears that because of all the renovations being done in DL, they will not be having their F&W festival in 2011 or 2012 :scared1:

I will never understand why Disney employ her, she reminds me so much of Margarita Pracatan a crazy lady we had on TV here in the UK in the 90's, maybe it is her http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8hpkP2mb4SA
You possibly know about her in the States, Wiki says she is working out there http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Margarita_Pracatan Maybe fits the work in with Ohana.:goodvibes

We thought they had forgotten the butter, asked for it and still took a long time for him to get it for us.

I halfed the tip and wrote on note saying "serving too many tables" only there and Biergarten in 21 nights dining did we have bad service, everywhere else well worth the 18-20% I left(some more it was so good)

Hi there! Just found your report and am really enjoying the reviews :thumbsup2 The shrimp incident at O'hanas did make me laugh - looking forward to reading more!

Hello again!! I’m back with a few more reviews, I’m a bit slower than usual this year – life is really getting in the way – but hopefully I’ll be back up to speed next week!

We started today with a trip to our favourite resort, for one of our favourite products in the world – beignets at POFQ!!! Yum!! Any other year we have just shared three, however we wanted to use counter service credits instead of snack (as we were planning another trip to the F&WF) so we had to get 6 instead!! What a pickle!!!
Here they are.
P1050824.jpg

They cook these fresh as you wait, so it took about 5 minutes. They were hot, fresh, moist and yummy, with that beautiful thick layer of sugar! Delish! Only problem was eating them in the foodcourt – usually as we stay at POFQ I eat in the room, standing up to try minimise the amount of sugar on me . . . sitting politely was much harder! Also I made the fatal beignet mistake . . . breathing out as I took a bite – this was the resulting mess!!
P1050826.jpg

Well it went everywhere - I nearly choked the room down – man that sugar can get a long way down your windpipe!!!!!! 10/10 from Tony and 9/10 from me!

We also had a Mickey waffle with strawberries to share. You could tell this had been gooey when it was first cooked, but because the beignets took so long to cook it was pretty cold by the time we got to eat it unfortunately. It was my fault for getting it so soon. Probably not really fair to mark this because of that but . . . Tony gave it a 4 . . . I gave it 8 out of loyalties sake!
P1050825.jpg

Mid-morning we went to Writers Stop in DHS to try something I have been dreaming of for months (I don’t know if any of you follow the Disney Food Blog on facebook, but the snacks you see on there are mind-boggling!!) – the carrot cake cookie!!!
P1050850.jpg

Hmm. I don’t know what to say about this. It does what it says on the box . . . its carrot cake with frosting in the middle. It was nice, fresh . . . I just felt a little unsatisfied after it – I think I thought it would be proper cookie which tasted like carrot cake, when in actual fact it was proper cake made very thin. I found it all a bit pointless!! 6/10. Tony loved it though and ate most of it – he gave it 8/10. But he said he wouldn’t have it again as it was really hard to eat on the go (we were walking to Beauty and the Beast show!), due to the softness.

Tony on the other hand ordered this – I think it was called Mickeys choc-chip cookie.
P1050851.jpg

This thing was MASSIVE – and at $5 didn’t count as a snack credit, but he had to try it!! Sadly he didn’t like it much and said it was a bit boring!! 5/10. I on the other hand LOVED this (we should just order food for each other in future!!) – really crumbly biscuit and huge lumps of chocolate in it – I give this 8/10.

We didn’t know what to do for lunch and in the end ended up at Captain Cook’s at the Poly. I ordered the Aloha Pork Sandwich (Pulled pork with BBQ sauce, pineapple cole slaw, cheddar cheese, cucumbers and tomatoes, served warm on a pineapple-coconut hoagie roll served with Polynesian chips)
P1050895.jpg

and Tony had the Double Cheeseburger.
P1050894.jpg

First of all can I say the potato chips were absolutely lovely – really fresh, still warm, loads of crunch in them – and a huge portion, I ate them all and give them 10/10. And that’s the best we can say about the meal!!!! Tony’s burger was really dry and tasteless – he only ate a few bites. Horrible. And my sandwich just had a strange taste – neither of us liked it. Just too many flavours going on. So we did something VERY naughty . . . we ordered a Pepperoni flatbread!!!
P1050897.jpg

Sorry, slice already eaten! This was more of a hit. I did find it a little greasy, but it was very fresh and hot and hit the spot! We both give it 7/10.

Then it was dessert time – I ordered a pineapple dole whip – LUSH!! I had truly forgotten how good these were. Light yet creamy, and the pineapple was so refreshing after the grease of the flatbread – absolutely lovely – 10/10. Can't tell you what I would do for one of these right now!
P1050899.jpg

Tony had a Mickey premium bar as he doesn’t like pineapple . . . however when I went up to get my dole whip from the self-serve machine they also had vanilla dole whip, which wasn’t offered when we picked lunch at the self-serve computers – he was well annoyed about that! He didn’t like the premium bar – the cookie / biscuit was really soft – 4/10.
P1050900.jpg

To come soonest . . . Goofy’s make your own snack, and Le Cellier.

Still never tried beignets & only just found out about carrot cake cookies since out last trip so both on the list for next year.
Very poor attempt at a self serve Dole Whip Sonya, this is how you do it :rotfl2:

thanks for the update, I guess the server thought you don't want the shrimp but your husband did...sorry for that. We never tried Ohana b/c my husband never had a desire to go there...I was able to score an ADR there and when I was reading off the ADR's and asked my husband what he thought he said lets not try Ohana but he said he'll try LeCellier...

Oh yum - much as I love Ohana I would pick Le Cellier over it, so have fun there!!!!

Great review! :goodvibes
Ohana can be a hit or miss sometimes, but it looks you got there on a really good day!

I couldn't agree with you more on the bread pudding - it is devine! Could well be the best dessert at Disney! :thumbsup2

I think it is . . . though I am happy to re-try them all to double check!!! :rotfl2:

Sonya, do you recall how many tables your server was serving on?
Last year we had a fantastic meal at Ohana, this year the server was trying to deal with 8 tables and fetching all the meat, last year the server had runners for the meat. Service was so bad we have said we are not going again next year.
We also got sat right in the centre next to where the kids congregate for the "show" worst place you can be sat when you hate that sort of thing, surrounded by parents trying to take photos of their kids just stood there doing nothing while some crazy woman tries to sing & dance(she can't do either)
Shame we had bad service and we don't like the show because we love the food there.

I didn't notice actually . . . it did seem really packed and busy, but it didn't seem to affect us luckily. Ugh - that singing woman is a DISASTER!!! We had to sit through the show twice this year, and she kept leading them all past our table, so I felt like I had to put my knife and fork down and pretend to be watching and enjoying . . . it really is dire! I honestly think even I sing better than that!!!

Great update! I have been hoping to try O'hana someday, maybe next trip. My DH would love it because dumplings and wings are 2 of his most favorite things to eat.

Oh yes definitely take him there then! Really nice wings!

OMG, SONYA! I literally burst out laughing-- THE SAME EXACT THING HAPPENED TO US IN 2009! We were at Ohana, received only one piece of steak each (which happened to be the only thing we actually liked. Discovered Polynesian food is not for us!). When the helper came by to check on us, he asked "Hey, do you guys want more steak?" We emphatically said yes, more steak please.
He returns 20 minutes later with shrimp. We said no thanks, he got huffy, stormed off, and we never saw him again...Needless to say, not the best meal!
It must be the same culprit!
That bread pudding is PHENOMENAL though. Definitely my favorite Disney dessert. Almost makes me want to go back to Ohana. Almost.

No way!!!:rotfl: That's hilarious!!!!! They sure are determined to empty the shrimp skewers!!!

Thank you for your review of Ohana, hoping for a great experirence on Monday night with them.

Ohh lucky you - how did it go?

The picture with your husband and the pile of shrimp is very funny. I'm glad he eventually got the steak he really wanted. Ohana looks like a place I have to add to my list - the bread pudding alone makes it worth a visit. Thanks for the review!

You're welcome!! Hope you get to try the pudding on your next trip! :thumbsup2

Yes it was really crowded, and really loud (mainly due to the awful singing woman!!) - much as I love the food I wouldn't recommend it for a romantic night out!!!

I NEED my chicken wing fix NOW!

Hope you get better service next time!! I think the server came to ask us if we wanted another drink, and we pounced and asked for everything else we wanted as well!!!

Sorry, I'm so very late to the party Sonya, but even without the pictures am loving your review:thumbsup2

Welcome!!! Ohh yes - we definitely agree!!!!!
Actually, I made some magic cookie bars yesterday . . .excuse me while I run to the kitchen and get one . . .!!!

i thought i was the only one who couldn't see the pictures! how is that happening?

Sory - I;m over my photobucket limit for some reason! :sad2:They will be back on the 19th!!

I would love love love to try that bread and butter pudding :cloud9:

Its so good - actually, I'm going to see if I can find the recipe!!! I can't wait until 2012 to try it again!!

Ah - maybe they have stopped doing the butter then? I was pretty sure we had some last year. Ugh - pulling the heads of the shrimp was awful!!!!! The eyes!!!!:scared1:

I will never understand why Disney employ her, she reminds me so much of Margarita Pracatan a crazy lady we had on TV here in the UK in the 90's, maybe it is her http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8hpkP2mb4SA

Oh lord Wayne, I am cracking up - I had forgotten Margarita Pracatan! That has brought back horrific memories!!!!!

Its such a shame you had service that bad - it really does ruin in. We've always had bad service in Boma before, but this year even that improved!!

Hi there! Just found your report and am really enjoying the reviews :thumbsup2 The shrimp incident at O'hanas did make me laugh - looking forward to reading more!

Thanks very much!!:goodvibes

IMG_0740Medium.jpg

Whoa!! I bow down in admiration!!!! I have let the side down on that one!!:rotfl2:

Back tomorrow with Le Cellier!!!!

Love all the reviews and the yummy pictures.... so hungry now!! Can't wait to read more we leave soon and can not wait!!!! Keep em coming!!

Once we finished at the Poly we decided to head to DTD and get a MYO Goofy snack from Goofy's Candy Co! Well what a let down! I had no idea they were no longer counted as a snack credit!! Such a disappointment. :sad2: Well I was desperate for one so we decided to pay then – on to the next shocker – you can no longer mix and match your toppings! You can only have one, and its $1 extra per additional topping. I was devastated!!! Disney have taken a beautiful thing and completely ruined it. Not that that was going to stop me having one, obviously . . .!!!!

I went for marshmallows, covered in milk chocolate and dipped in Oreo crumbs. Then came the next disappointment – you can no longer have caramel drizzle!! :mad:Only dark or milk chocolate. As we know I love caramel!! By now I was in despair at all the changes! I went for dark chocolate, moodily!:rotfl2:
P1050915.jpg

Tony ordered a Mickey rice crispie head, dunked in milk chocolate, covered in reeses pieces, and drizzled with milk chocolate.
P1050914.jpg

You may notice they appear to be covered in chocolate rather than “drizzled” . . . we got chatting to the man making our treats and told him that “you can never have enough chocolate” so he took us at our word! Bless him!! We ate these over the next few days. I have to say I thought they would be tainted by having to pay for them, but mine was absolutely lovely! I kept it in the fridge in the room, and the dark chocolate drizzle formed a perfect crisp shell over the Oreo crumbs . . . ohh this was lovely!! Very sickly! Yet lovely! I really recommend this combination and I ate every last bite of it! Gets 9/10!

Tony thought this tasted nice, but was very difficult to eat due to the reeses being so crunchy (I did tell him to have the peanut butter chips instead of reese pieces as I had the same problem last year, but no one listens to me . . .!!). He only gives it 6/10

That evening we were going to Le Cellier. I simply couldn’t wait!! We had eaten lunch here last year and liked it – this was our first dinner. When we checked in at the podium we were advised they were running about 30 minutes late, so Tony went to get a beer from the stand outside Canada – he went for a Mousse-head and for those into beer apparently this gets a 9/10! We were seated about 20 minutes later, so not too bad.
P1050922.jpg

Now much as I like this restaurant, goodness are the tables squished close together! You can pretty much hit elbows with the next door table! Because of that I didn’t want to disturb people, so turned the flash off on my camera, so picture quality isn’t too good I’m afraid.

First off I ordered a glass of white wine and some more of the divine pomegranate lemonade – I had a serious addiction to this stuff! We both ordered the cheddar cheese soup for appetizer. I didn’t have this last year, just tried a little of Tony’s, and I can honestly say I “get” all the fuss about it. This was amazing!! Really thick, really creamy, really cheesy. I loved every bite and give the soup 10/10! This arrived with the bread – pretzel, multi-grain (I think!) and something else (just plain bread?) – I tried all of these but not too much as I was worried about getting full before the next two courses! They were nice enough and very fresh – I still don’t really get all the fuss about the pretzel bread to be honest, but I think that’s just me!! Tony said the soup was nice but only gave it 7/10 – crazy fool!!!!!!
P1050925.jpg

P1050924.jpg

Entrée. I went for the filet with wild mushroom risotto, with a side order of asparagus (I adore asparagus and never let myself put butter on it when I’m at home!). Tony was going to have the same – he dithered for absolutely ages – and then went for the New York strip steak with gruyere potato gratin.

OMG. Mine was so good. The steak was tender and cooked perfectly just as I asked. It had such a deep flavour. The risotto was lovely – really creamy and they went perfectly together. And every bite of the asparagus was lovely – it still had a nice firm bite to it. Every bite of this meal went down well, and I give it 10/10!
P1050926.jpg

P1050927.jpg

Tony gives his 8/10 and said it was “good, but no filet” (he spent most of the meal drooling at mine, not that I was sharing!!). Ha ha!!!. He likes the potatoes (when he ordered the server warned him some people don’t like them, but he went for them anyway), and said they taste like dauphinoise potatoes.
P1050928.jpg

I want to mention at this point our server was just adorable – we both decided we wanted to marry her!!:rotfl2: We started asking her about Canada and decided we definitely want to go there in a couple of years (we mainly said it to impress her because she was enjoying talking about it so much, and then after thinking about it decided we really do want to go there!! Roll on 2013!!!). Anyway! She was very good, really attentive, and good with recommendations. I did have to ask three times for a refill of my pomegranate lemonade, but that was the only slight glitch in the entire evening. And it wasn’t her fault – there was a large group at the next table and they were really giving her a hard time. They all wanted meals that were slightly different from the menu, at the end they wanted the bill split about 4 ways, some were DDP, some OOP, some annual passes – poor girls head was spinning!

On to dessert!! I just did not know what to order. None of the desserts especially called to me. I love crème brule, but the one I had here last year was really burnt and bitter and put me off. I was very close to ordering the campfire s’mores, but in the end ordered the maple crème brule. Tony did order the campfire s’mores. Did I mention we were wearing our anniversary badges? The desserts came like this, all decorated and with two glasses of champagne – lovely!!!!!
P1050931.jpg

My crème brule was really good – such an improvement on last years. A nice delicate flavour, perfectly cooked, creamy, with a crunchy layer of sugar on the top. Yum! Gets 9.5/10! Tony did not like his s’mores!!! The whole think was frozen – he know it was made with ice-cream but the biscuit base had obviously been in the freezer as well – it made it all very tasteless – he only gave the dessert 4/10!

Overall we had an absolutely brilliant night – I give the night 9.5/10 overall and Tony gives it 8/10. Since getting home I have tried to move my candlelight processional booking to here, from Garden Grill, but can’t get in – am gong to keep trying though as this is definitely worth an immediate re-visit!!!

Up next . . . IHOP . . . EOS . . . House of Blues!

Sorry! Apparently I have exceeded my photobucket limit - photos will be back on the 19th! Have started a new photobucket account in the meantime so all photos from Ohana will appear!! Its so annoying - not sure how its happened; I did the whole report last year and didn't go over the limit once!!

Well i will be back on the 19th to read your report from start to finish! Feels wrong to see food being eaten when its partway through the trip! And I of course can't read a food report without seeing pictures- its just mean otherwise!

Glad Le Cellier was good for you, we are glad its going to 2 credits and won't be an option in future for us. Last year probably best meal we had, this year nowhere near as nice, far too salty, strange butterbeans with the chicken.
Although food wasn't as good this year the server was very good, maybe we got same girl as you.
As for taking pics, little girl sat at the side of me said "Mummy why is that man taking pics of his food?" She told her some people like to take pics to remember their vacations. Even when we go out for meals with other people I do it, they just all think I am crazy.:rotfl2:

1st pic is how they served the chicken last year which DW loved, 2nd pic this year, didn't enjoy.
