I am looking at the lenses that are f/2.8 they and very expensive. Looks like I won't be buying those lenses anytime soon. I did also look at the Nikon 17-55mm f/2.8G ED-IF AF-S DX Nikkor Zoom Lens which goes up to $900+.

If I did get a lens that is f/2.8 what mm would you recommend? I am looking at the Nikon Nikkor AF-S 35mm F/1.8 G Lens which is a nice one.

Thank you PiO.

The 28 or 35mm would be great for Disney. If you take a lot of portrait shots, the 50 mm is fantastic. How much is the 35 mm? It may be the one that gives you that extra capability in the rides.

Let me see if I can dig up some pictures.

From far away, the 7D and 50D look similar. I accidentally picked up my sister's 7D thinking it was my 50D. It was SO heavy. I like that there is a video camera built into it though. One less device to carry which would make the camera bag less heavy. Glad you are enjoying your new baby, Princess.

These were taken with the 50 mm f/1.8 in Oct 2010.

In some rides, if I wasn't quick enough, I ended up too close.

And missing the shot.

By Jan 2011, I had acquired the 17 - 55 mm zoom, f/2.8. I suspect that the 35 mm might just give you the extra width so that you get more perspective.

These are from Hong Kong using the 17 - 55 mm.

For some things, I'm still missing the shot! :cutie:

It goes around $150 to $200 for the Nikkor 35mm.

try looking on craigslist, some people will sell stuff alot cheaper.

I don't like buying from craigslis. I have tried to sell items in the past, but I been getting people that are trying to get me to send it through the mail instead of selling it in person which means that they are scammers.

Very nice pics PiO with the 50mm lens.

The 50 mm at f/1.8. All taken without flash.

Personally, I would have preferred the extra width. It's just a matter of what you like.

If you're interested in second hand, then take a look at some of the reputable camera stores online like B&H and Adorama. There are a couple others that the DisBoard photo regulars use as well. If you're keen, post something on the photoboard and they might be able to help you in the right direction.

For lenses, you want to know that its been looked after and not broken or anything or scratched.

Whenever DH is working in Silicon Valley and if I'm travelling with him, I tend to shop at Keeble and Shuchat in Palo Alto. You never know...keep an eye out on the lenses you're interested in and it might go on sale from time to time.

I would expect that the 35mm might be on sale for sub $150.

T2, T4 now 7D, 50D. So I heard about the Terminator movies getting another version or another part. So is the D for Destroyer? 7D is sent to the future to destroy 50D?

You forgot the "i" Robot!

And yes....destroyer it is! I'm still coming to terms with the camera functions and its bad for my confidence!::yes::

I have bought from B&H and Adorama in the past. Those are very well known online camera stores. I bought my old Nikon D60 SLR from Adorama and I upgraded to the Nikon D5100 from B&H when it was on sale. I am trying not to buy any lens where I could use that money for something else.

That is right, everything that I purchased online I always make sure that there is no problems with the item before I buy it.

I do appreciate all your info on the lenses.

Aren't you glad you came back to all this lens chatter?

Talk about focus discussion!

Definitely, I want to get good pictures when I am at the parks or family events. I know that I need to get better lenses in order to get good pictures. I'm just not willing to shell out a lot of money on lenses where I don't do a lot of picture taking.

I will keep looking at the 35mm lens if I can get a great deal on it and I might ask you first before I get it.

I looked at a thread a little bit ago about DLR hotel pictures. Someone posted a really good set from a CL PPH room. Got great shots of details of the room. Then some out the window pictures. Problem is you will never see the same stuff out your window, unless you bring a telescope.

Bret - I had help from the Dis photoboard when I was looking at things. I'm happy to help out; but I only represent one viewpoint. If you were interested in other viewpoints, you might want to head there as well. I'm really not that familiar with the Nikon/Nikkor lenses and there will be regulars over there that would know the lenses inside out.

Have you caught up on my HK TR yet? Try taking a look at the Canon telescopes I looked at! :lmao:

OK at some point y'all need to take this discussion over to the photo board. I just didn't read the last two pages. Most of it has to do with the number of drinks I had.

I had been expecting the "Arline has passed call" but instead she woke up and said (via nodding) that she wanted to live, she didn't want to go to a hospital and she would like to continue hospice care. She told this to Dr. J about 2 hours ago, so we went to the SNIF and saw her, but she was back out of it. So we are back in the same place as we were when they took her off the breathing tube.

OMG! So now what?

The birthday party was a lot of fun.

It's my BFF wife's party. She has done this for maybe close to 15 years. She either hosts it or has it at a public location. Everyone wears a red dress. This year it was at her house and drinks were red, strawberry margaritas and wine. We were encourages to bring side dishes, appetizers or desserts and if possible red in color. She made a lot of food and some beer brats.

My friend works for the forest service. He is sort of high up in his unit. So each day he gets a map of the fire he is currently working on. The map is a very nice topographical map with the fires locations and some other information on it. This is why it costs millions to fight fires. He used a map from earlier week to wrap her gift in. She didn't open it.

I will head go to the DIS photoboard tomorrow and check it out. I am about to go to bed.
