I haven't seen the 650D or T4i yet; but I know that they released it in June.

I've upgraded to the 7D. Picked it up in Hong Kong...DH bought it for me as a birthday present so that he could get the T2i back.

Nice, how does the 7D differ from the t2i? I hear the t4i has 5 processor.

Heavier!

Seriously? For me, it is about the same except the autofocus mechanism is better on the 7D, allows for more frames per second (good if you're into sports photography), the materials used to construct the body is much stronger and I'm finding that my pictures have a bit more depth of colour than from the T2i. I still miss the T2i but I'm starting to love the 7D more. I don't love the extra weight but performance wise, there is a step improvement in the pictures.

Heavier is usually not good, but your hands are pretty strong. I recently picked one up in my hand, Nikon I think, that body was way to big for my hands. I really like the t2i. I am glad you like your 7D. Did your sign work?:rotfl2:

Hi everyone. Home again trying to get DS to bed. I'll catch up on the conversation afterward, hope things are going ok.

It was a figurative sign. And yes, it seems to have worked. But then I'd finished my share of the housework (both bathrooms, kitchen, dusting, changing sheets). DH is vacuuming right now and will complete the mopping afterwards.

I think we are heading out for dinner too. We'll see how everyone feels later.

Welcome back. Catch you a bit later.

Good evening everyone.

I had to work today (even though I was on my iPad part of the day) and had to walk my dog when I got back from work.

DH is really enjoying the T2i as well....and my collection of lenses. I think its great that he gets to go back to what was his hobby (photography) when we first met; with a camera and a set of lenses that he's always wished he had. I guess it makes no difference as to who owns the lenses as "we" now get to share the lenses (although there are a couple of lenses that I will take priority over).

The good news is that now if I want to purchase new lenses, we can both use it.

That's a plus!

I was going to do a snarky response but then I remembered that we all (well, most of us) do work for money. Happy earning! :thumbsup2

I have to keep working so I can go on more trips later on. Speaking of trips, I am still trying to convince my DB and his GF to get extra days during our upcoming trip. But I think he is getting annoyed by me asking him to get more days. I should consider stop talking about it to him and he should go what he feels comfortable with.

I am also getting torn of getting a new lens for my DSLR camera. I also don't want to spend more money on lens where I could use that money for something else. Lens do cost a lot of money and I want to get a lens where I don't have to keep changing my 18-55mm lens to the 55-200mm lens for short and long. I thought about getting the Nikon Zoom-Nikkor 18-105mm so I don't have to change the short lens to the longer lens.

Seems like good advice. :thumbsup2

Changing lenses is one of those things that I don't love. I don't know anything about the Nikon lenses at all. I am assuming that your current 18-55 and 55-200 are the kit lenses that came with the camera?

Pick the lens based on the type of photography you do. If you get the 18 - 105 mm, will it help you take better photographs or is it just so that you don't have to change lenses?

When I bought my first "upgrade" lens, I ended up getting one with the same zoom range but was a lens that I could shoot hand held in dark rides. For me, I based the decision on the type of photography I wanted to move into and picked the lens based on what I could (not) afford.
You may feel differently about lens changing. But even with an 18 - 105 range, you might still be changing lenses to get the extra reach into the 200 range.

You are right about that, I just don't like switching lenses. Yes, the 18-55 and 55-200 came with the camera.

The only time I use my DSLR camera is for the trips & family events. If I did get the lens that I mention, it would be for not changing the lens. But I also realize that if I get the 18-105 lens, I have to change it to the 55-200 for longer shots. In the end, I will not get the lens since it is a basic.

I also was thinking of getting lens that will be perfect for dark events with barely using the flash.

Thanks PiO. :thumbsup2

Look for a lens that will get you down to at least f/2.8 (or less). I have a Canon 17 - 55 f/2.8 that is my work horse on the camera. On my camera, the useable ISO is 3200 and between the f/2.8 and the ISO, I get to take pictures in dark rides.

It wasn't cheap but I justified it because to get that lens in Australia, I would have paid double what I paid for it in the US.

The option is to get prime lenses and let your feet be the zoom. I'm not sure this is a cheaper option, but it is something to consider. I did pick up a 50mm f/1.8 lens for my trip in October 2010. It was around $100, not too bad, and highly rated as a good lens. Problem is that I thought it was just a little bit too tight for the rides. I got good shots but I would have liked a little bit more width to play with. If I had my time again, I would have looked at a prime lens of about 30 mm (or slightly less).

I do still use that 50 mm from time to time; but the 17 - 55 mm has completely superceded this lens.

I am looking at the lenses that are f/2.8 they and very expensive. Looks like I won't be buying those lenses anytime soon. I did also look at the Nikon 17-55mm f/2.8G ED-IF AF-S DX Nikkor Zoom Lens which goes up to $900+.

If I did get a lens that is f/2.8 what mm would you recommend? I am looking at the Nikon Nikkor AF-S 35mm F/1.8 G Lens which is a nice one.

Thank you PiO.
