I think my mail lady is stealing my freebies too! I've signed up for what seems like a million freebies and have only recieved a few. I think the only ones she doesn't steal are the ones that come in a box and she's not sure if I ordered it or not. Why can't she steal the bills????:rotfl2: I want my freebies!!!! Maybe I should put a note in my mailbox telling her where to find her own freebies!!!!:rotfl:

But in all seriousness, isn't that illegal?

Would a mailperson *dare* to do that?

And when and how would they do it? Like stick the freebie in their pockets?

Anyone really know for sure?:confused3

Thanks again, everyone, for the links to all the great freebies! :cool1:

Hmmm...this thread doesn't have enough Johnny in it yet. I can help! pirate:

My Dh is a mailman and it is a federal offense to "mess" with anyone's mail, he would never even dare to do anything like that just to get a free granola bar!! Not only would he lose his job, he would be prosecuted by the feds!

Most likely what is happening is that it is being misdelivered, your neighbors are probably enjoying them! This is what has happened to us. Since freebies are delivered as bulk mail, there is not too much you can do. You could call the local post office and let them know you have not been receiving mail, the supervisors will check on your carrier to make sure they are doing their jobs correctly. We did this with ours, I don't think she was too happy with us, though. Not too much has improved since our report 2 years ago. Our problem was misdelivery.

That being said, a few years back, it was discovered that a rural carrier in some other state had been stock-piling ALL of his customers mail, not that he wanted it, he was just to lazy to do his job, he would just take it home and drop it off in his garage and take it easy until it was time to go clock out!!:scared1:

Hey we gotta blame someone, right :rotfl: I just find it strange that all of a sudden I am getting NOTHING not even my Wal-Mart Freebies. You know I just maybe spoil. I was envied by my DH because he would come in with my pile of mail and it was overflowing with freebies and it is really sad that now I am desperately waiting everyday for freebies. Hey I am a stay at home to 4 kids its the little things that make my day, like that box of free cereal or tampax:worship:

BUT MADD I tell ya, I want scenario no. 2 if my mailcarrier is freapin the freebies!!

The mailmen/women must be banding together trying to get back at us for all the extra things they have to carry and deliver. I have not been getting the freebies I've signed up for. I never had this problem at my previous address. My mom signs up also and she gets all of hers and we sign up for the same ones.

Yes, I know for sure, I work at the USPS.

Of course as you might expect, theft of the mail is grounds for dismissal and federal prosecution. I know of nobody I work with that would dare risk their good-paying job, great-benefits, and job security to pocket samples. In fact loose change (pennies, quarters, even dollars) someone drops on the floor or leaves in the break room stays there untouched. No one is willing to risk it. Plus everybody who works there is given an extensive background check and even psychological testing. I work with some of the most honest, upstanding people in our community.

To the first poster, no it doesn't make much sense that your mom gets the same freebies you ask for and you don't. Even with the inside knowledge of the Postal Service that I have from working there for 14 years I can't come up with a possible valid reason that could be happening to you except to wonder if something may be wrong with your address. Wrong zip code (esp. if you use an incorrect +4), wrong city (using neighborhood designation or region instead of actual delivery city), maybe forgetting an apartment #, maybe???

What I can tell you is that the tiniest thing that makes bulk mail/standard mail undeliverable will cause it to not get to you. Bulk/Standard (also known as JUNK) mail is not forwarded, so anyone who moves will not get them. Free samples are almost exclusively sent at bulk/standard rates.

I can offer you a tidbit on how this is handled, as when I was pregnant and on light duty it was my main job (going through undeliverable mail). UBBM as it is called (undeliverable bulk business mail) is discarded and/or recycled as called for in the mail delivery manuals. Most mail that paper based is double checked for accuracy (to ensure it is handled properly and is not being discarded in error) by a clerk trained in those procedures (ME!), and simply recycled. Probably roughly 10% of mail is not recyclable due to plastic coatings, or merchandise inside. In this case, mail is carefully checked for class and endorsement. If one is present it is handled appropriately (returned to sender, address correction notification, etc.). If there is no endorsement and the mailpiece contains merchandise that appears to have value (CD's, books, clothing) the mailpiece is opened and the contents are sent to the local USPS claims department. If the merchandise inside does not have value (samples of food, perfume, pens, feminine products, etc.) and is not recyclable, this mail is discarded in the regular trash bin.

NOW, it does seem silly to throw out perfectly usable items. Our particular office was allowed to USE items such as these..the pens, for instance. The feminine products were placed in the ladies room. Sometimes food products may have been eaten (not by me, ick....most of that stuff spent a lot of time in a hot truck). The rule is NO ITEMS that came out of an uneliverable BULK/STANDARD class mailpiece were allowed to leave the building, EVER. Period. It was grounds for termination.

So anyway, I hope all you freaps enjoyed this little insight into the workings of your post office. Believe it or not, we love bringing to you mail that you will enjoy. And many of us are freebie hunters ourselves.

I will now go back to lurking and taking in all this wonderful freebieage.

Have a wonderful day!!!:goodvibes

In all seriousness I really like my mail lady. The only time I don't like her is when my daughter is sleeping and she honks the horn to deliver a package. (not that she knows my little munchkin is napping) I just get a little frustrated when I sign up for stuff and my poor mailbox is empty ( aside from those stinkin bills of course). Have a great day freaps!

nenner1:
Thanks for your post. I think I have received most of my freebies. I have received empty boxes only a couple of times.

Thanks for the info nenner1:thumbsup2 . Nice to know that we have a friend that works at the post office to give us insight on our missing freebies. Ok.. I'll stop giving my postman the evil eye.

That reminds me of something that happened to me years ago. I found out that I knew my postman and jokingly asked him why we never get freebies anymore. Remember back in the day when you didn't need to sign up for freebies and you would just get them in your mailbox. Well the next day I went to check my mail and my mailbox was jammed packed with little boxes of cereal:scared1::lmao:.

I have "hosted" around 8 parties of various types ~ kids movies, breast cancer home & gardens cookbook, hershey bliss, and more and just wanted to say that you do not have to have a "party". I have signed up for any of the parties that my family would be interested in and what I have done in the past is distribute the goodies like someone else mentioned. I have kids over weekly and just planned to watch the movies on one of those occasions and what kid doesn't enjoy tatoos, a new show, eating on color coordinated paper goods, etc. I have even had 2 parties on the same day ~ 1 movie for the kids and an "adult" themed party (I think it was the BC cookbook one). The kids were in 1 room enjoying their new movie & goodies while the moms were in the kitchen hanging out having a good time chatting and such. And I've also done nothing more than bring my party package into work with me. Once you get a response from them you've been picked and you send out the invites you will get another email telling you what & when you will get your party package. They like you to answer little polls and post picks & comments but you are not "expected" to do a ton. You also get a follow up survey after your party.

Thanks to ALL who responded, I feel better now! I normally wouldn't be this stressed but I'm in school and this has been a REALLY hard semester.:scared: and any "new" things have been freaking me out. SO anyway, thanks again:worship:

Recieved the toilet paper and the arm and hammer toothpaste. Perfect timing on the toothpaste as we are taking a weekend trip next weekend!
