Morning all! Not sure WFD--probably something kid-friendly again, like mac and cheese. But DD is having a Thanksgiving Feast at School today, so we'll have a big lunch. The school is providing the meat and the parents make the sides. Of all the stuff I love to cook for Thanksgiving, I got cranberry sauce and dinner rolls. Bread making and I do NOT get along so those are store bought--at least I made the cranberry sauce. This will be the first of 3 Thanksgiving meals for me and I'm all :cool1: . That and this is the first time I'm actually going to be IN the school with DD; I think I'm just as excited as she is!

Poor Marrrrrrrio, first we're checking out his butt in pics now we're talking about his huge lemons!

Gretchen - I'm already on it, found a pic of the skyy berry martini, it's post 327:

:lmao: :lmao: Thanks for the link. That looks really good. As a matter of fact, I had a martini in your honor last night. :goodvibes

Here's a pic of dinner. Hot & cheesy right out of the oven. Chicken Enchilada Casserole.

Sheryl, that looks fabulous! If only Kenny would eat mexican food. (Insert LOUD sigh here).

Sheryl- I can see why you DD loves that dinner, it looks so good! I cannot wait for bathroom pics. Is Mario in any of them?

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Sorry I vented alll over you guys. Poor ex got it to :rotfl: At least he gets the fustration and is also as mad as I am about the lack of return phone calls. Part of my problem is that there are 2 kids in DS's school with the same name and my Alex may have gotten an incorrect grade as a result.

Ok I'm going to go take another advil and try to get rid of my migrane. I love the tempature change here in Chicago 60's one day 40's the next my poor head can't take it.

What a day you had yesterday! I hope today is better and your headache is gone. I still get a migraine every now and again, but I used to get them quite frenquently from about age 15 til about age 27ish. They are horrible. The day afterwards, do you get what I used to call the hangover headache? The one where the migraine is gone but your head feels sore.

Hey we know the weather change all too well, we were at 80 today and tomorrow we'll be in the 60's.:confused3

Us too. I now find myself checking the weather every night just so I have an idea what to wear in the morning.

Oh dear. I already feel like some of the things he really likes, particularly videogames and Yu-Gi-Oh...and now Pokemon, I don't understand or really don't like. I suppose it does get worse. I hope he keeps playing baseball. I do really like that.

I am feeling a little better than I did the past two days. Thanks for all the well-wishes!

I would like baseball too. Patrick, unfortunately is into hunting. He only goes with people I trust, but it still worries me every time he goes. Kenny doesn't hunt, but says it is a hobby that should keep him out of trouble. Unlike the dirt bike racing that Patrick would love to take up. Or the surfing. Or the skateboarding. Or any other activity or sport guaranteed to give me an ulcer. :lmao:

I am getting my first order of Markey Day today. Andrew school is selling it. Has anyone ever tried it?

Lauren - I have no idea what Markey Day is. Please fill me in when you get time.

I hope you have a great time. My sister used to do this with her high school special ed class. Except because they also taught life skills, she and the kids (with some parent volunteers) made the meal in the classroom. She said it was always one of the highlights of the year.

Last night's dinner was just ok. As Kenny would say, it was better than drive-through but not my best material. What a kind, loving man I married. :rotfl:

Anyway, he may not be much happier with tonight's dinner. It is basalmic chicken with mushrooms and I am making a baked cheese grits to go along with it. Kenny isn't a big fan of chicken and he doesn't really like grits (which my Dad thinks makes him a Communist ;) ). But, he ticked me off yesterday and well.........you know how that goes. Right, Nancy?

I hope everyone has a great day.

Well, if I spelled it right you may have heard of it :) ...its actually Market Day. It is a company that sells, I believe, all frozen items. Andrews school just started offering it for a fundraiser. I ordered steaks, veggies, pies, popcorn chicken, etc.

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Poor Kenny!

When Kyle was in kindergarten we had a Thanksgiving feast and the school provided McDonalds chicken nuggets. Hopefully you'll have a better meal, I'm sure you'll have fun no matter what!:goodvibes

This recipe makes a ton, I usually cut everything back a bit, almost by half. This can also be made with shrimp, crawfish, even pork! Kinda spicy, the flavors are wonderful!!!

Chicken Sparky

1/2 c. butter or margarine
1/3 c. olive oil
2 c. diced onions
1/2 c. diced tasso
3/4 c. diced red pepper
1 c. sliced mushrooms
1 tsp. minced garlic
3 bay leaves
6 boneless breasts, cubed
1/2 Tbsp. worcestershire sauce
1/3 c. lemon juice
1/2 tsp. hot sauce
1 tsp. black pepper
1/2 tsp. each dried oregano, thyme, white pepper, cayenne pepper and garlic powder
2 tsp. chili powder
3/4 c. chopped green onions
2 c. half & half
1/3 c. parsley
1 lb. angel hair pasta
Parmesan cheese

Heat the butter and olive oil in a large skillet. Add the onions and tasso and brown well. Add the red peppers, mushrooms, garlic and bay leaves and saute for about 3 minutes. Add the chicken, worcestershire, lemon juice, hot sauce, black pepper, oregano, thyme, white pepper, cayenne pepper, garlic powder and chili powder and continue to saute.

When the chicken is almost cooked add green onions and half & half. Simmer for 10 minutes or until thickened, add parsley at the end. Serve over angel hair pasta topped with parmesan cheese.

Kathy, that sounds yummy. A couple questions...I have never seen tasso sold here. Can I sub something else? Also, how would it be w/o the shrooms? TIA!

:coffee: Yup. My DSIL is next on my list. He took a picture of me on my DGD desk chair at my computer  but then he posted it as my avatar :scared1::scared1::scared1:. He let it slip that prunes do not agree with him so I have warned him that he better be careful if he eats anything that I make....

I have a friend who is 86 now and a bitty thing. Her husband was about 6'5" and huge. She told him one day after they had just gotten married that he better make sure that he never lifted a hand to her or upset her in any way.....after all she made his food :lmao::lmao::lmao: Now he adored her and never crossed her in any way, but I swear he was also terrified of her!

She was actually one progressive gal for her day and I'm sure that she broke through a slew of ceilings but I still chuckle when I think about that old bear willing to do anything for her and all she had to do was cook, and she was a fabulous cook!

Morning Y'all,

Thanks for all the kudos on the enchiladas! I will try again to get the recipe down to something someone else could actually work with! I've been making that dish for years, can't find the original recipe & y'all know I don't measure a darn thing! I've tried to write it down several times & just can't get it right!

Becky, How in the world do you make raw mushrooms look so darn good!!! And the finished pot pie, well that's just amazing!

Stephanie, Enjoy your Thanksgiving meal!:goodvibes

Nancy, I do have some pics with my DC in them. But I'm hesitant to post them. He was telling me how ticked off he was about his DD's school allowing a fair sponsor to put a picture of his DD's class in an newspaper ad for a business. I'm thinking he might not appreciate being posted on the web, having his lemons checked out!!!! :lmao:

I'll be back in a bit with remodeling pics!

Sheryl

Hey Y'all,

I have to show off some pics of the bathroom remodeling! It is looking so awesome, I can't even believe it's in my house!!! He is finishing the shower/toilet aka "wet room" area first, because the cabinet shop has not even started on the vanity yet. (The owner broke his leg, so everything is backed up.) But that's okay, Mario said we will be showering by the middle of next week!!!!!

He finished putting in all of the tile & accents yesterday!

The entry into the wet room. We are going to put a frameless glass door there, with frosted etching on it. We are going to put a pattern with fleur de lis's in it!

When DH sat up this morning he mumbled "Whoa!" I thought he was dizzy cus of his head cold. He said " No I'm just surprised everytime I see the new bathroom! " I can't wait for DH to be able to use it! This roll-in shower is going to make life so much easier for both of us!!!!

(For my Nola thread buddies, sorry this is just a repeat of posting over there! So many pics to copy, & stuff to talk about, I cheated & copied! )

Sheryl ~ Your shower is beautiful! I would love to have it in my house. We have a very small shower to accomodate the huge tub in the master bathroom. I like the tub, but don't use it as often as the shower and I'm always hitting my elbows on the walls when I wash my hair. :headache:

Last night for dinner we had roasted chicken breasts, Stove Top stuffing, and green beans.

Tonight I'm making Chinese BBQ pork, jasmine rice, and broccoli. I wanted to have egg rolls too, but my stupid Publix stopped carrying the ones we like.

Cool thanks! Anything else I should order? I already have the tasso in my cart! :cool1:

When you have time, shop around that site it looks pretty good. I'd be happy to help if you have any questions.

Recipe please!!!!

Sheryl, your bathroom looks AMAZING!!! Keep feeding that cutie; he does great work! :thumbsup2 Your accent tile looks very similar to mine. My bathroom isn't even near being done. Since Tom is doing it himself it won't be done til after Xmas...:scared1:

Hey guys, I am still out of the loop...where are Glynis and Lori?

Also, I need tips on entertaining for Thanksgiving. I am hosting my first one. I am having about 12 people. I have the following questions.

How big of a turkey do I need for that many?

Can I heat the make ahead mashed taters in the crock pot?

Anybody ever use one of those cooking bags for a turkey?

AND, the most important question:

Anybody have a thanksgivingy cocktail recipe?

TIA!!!

Thanks Sandy, I reeeaaallly wanted a big ole huge tub! DH worked on the plans for over a year, had some architecture buddies look at the plans too, but just couldn't figure out a way to fit a tub with the roll in shower. That's when we decided to make the shower really nice, so we wouldn't hurt the resale value of the house. Even a minimal roll-in shower would still have cost a bundle, so we wanted to make it something that didn't look like it was a handicap accessible shower. Since I can't have the jacuzzi tub I wanted, we put in massaging shower jets instead! I can't wait to try it out!
