Lauren, ????? On your London Broil, what do you usually serve with it? Does it have an Chinese/vietnamese flavor to it? and if you don't marinate it for 3 days will it not take on the flavor?

Sheryl

Laura, thank you. I screwed up my multi quote post again and lost your haddock quote...:)

If your glued to the weather news, will ya let me know when I have to do something?! I really hate this! I was trying hard to ignore it but it looks like Dean is not going to let me do that any longer. Do you have any idea where y'all are gonna go if we have to evacuate? We've made 0 plans, thinking we'd find a stopping point & then head to Disney. But I'll have to find a hotel for the stopping point. And normally I wouldn't have to worry about my Mom but she hurt her foot yesterday & can hardly walk now. So one more little issue there.

I've been on the computer all morning, I had to find a pet friendly place. Nothing in Baton Rouge available. I got us booked at Clarion Suites in Jackson, MS. I'm praying we won't be needing this!:sad2:

Gosh, already had to go as far as Jackson! I'm calling DH now!

But remember, we needed pet friendly. There may be many others closer.

ETA: Sheryl, lets move this over to NOLA thread, don't want to have everyone here go through this mess with us.

Would you share your fried rice recipe?

This is the recipe I use, but I "play" with it all the time! Hope it works for you!

Shrimp Fried Rice

2 Eggs (I use 3)
2 Tablespoons Vegetable Oil
3 Green Onions with tops, chopped
3 Cups cold cooked Rice
1/4 pound cooked Shrimp, chopped *(I use fresh and sauté them after the egg is cooked)
3 Tablespoons Soy Sauce

Blend eggs with 2 Tablespoons water and set aside. Heat oil in wok or large skillet over medium heat. Add green onions, stir-fry 30 seconds. Add eggs and cook stirring gently, until firm. *(if using fresh shrimp, I sauté them just after the egg is cooked) Stir in rice and cook until heated, gently separating grains. Add shrimp and soy sauce; cook stirring until mixture is well blended and heated through.
Makes 4 to 6 servings.

To make it with bay scallops:

I don’t add the water to the eggs (some water always escapes the scallops as they cook). First sauté the green onion, then add the bay scallops and sauté until just done, then add the eggs and continue as above. You can keep the shrimp in the recipe if you want more meat, or omit, whatever you like. (Sometimes I add a touch of Tabasco as I am cooking the scallops if I want a little "heat" in there!)

Sounds great, thanks Tink! Have a great trip & saying prayers that Dean stays away from all of us!

Now can someone tell me the difference between Bay & Sea Scallops?

TXTink -- I hope your DD has a wonderful reunion with her husband. I am sure it was a stressful year for her, and I am glad he is coming back safe and well.
Thank you so much! Yes, she is very ready for him to be home! :)

Now I am nervous about Dean!! Youngest DD just went back to LSU in Baton Rouge and we are heading out of town today at noon and will be gone 2 weeks! We talked about an evacuation plan for youngest DD, but I really think she will be ok in BR. She stayed in the dorm through Katrina, and SLEPT THROUGH IT! :scared1: She is in an apartment now though, I'm not sure it is as safe as the dorm, but I think it will be ok. I am hoping this thing will go somewhere else! We live in a town between Houston and Galveston, so I am hoping it avoids that area too! And, (to keep heaping on!) my brother and his family live in Corpus Christi! I know it is awful for wherever it hits, but I am really hoping for Mexico....

You all stay safe!! I look forward to seeing all the recipes I missed while I'm gone!! :flower3:

:) The sea scallops are the big ones and the bay scallops are the little ones.

Be safe!!!!

They might be Rastafarians. Rastafarians don't eat pork--in fact they don;t eat any meat. They do eat fish, but most of their diet is vegetarian. Rastafarians don't drink alcohol either.

There's Rastafarians on St. John too, mon. That's why I know all this! :goodvibes

Glad you answered that I was getting ready to google it! But do you know why? I'm just wondering what that evolved from? :confused3

It will have to be after we get back from vacation though, we leave tomorrow for 2 weeks.

We are taking our oldest DD back Yuma AZ, to meet her husband coming home from Iraq, then DH and I are going to DL, the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone before heading back home. And our youngest will be heading back to Baton Rouge.

Have a great homecoming and trip!

Yes, it is beause they aspire to live in communion with nature. Their dietary restrictions follow their interpretation of Hebrew law. Here's a little google info for you to explain further:

Rastas are primarily vegetarians: They eat no meat, poultry, pork or shellfish. On occasion many will eat fish smaller than twelve inches in length. Fish larger than that are considered to be symbolic of the Babylonians who feed on the lives of others.

Many Rastas advocate eating holistic, unprocessed foods which they call "ital," coming from the words "natural," and "vital." Many fruits and vegetables are eaten raw in order to gain the most nourishment. The Ital diet is believed to be more helpful to the body than are processed foods that use chemicals and preservatives. Indigenous fruits and vegetables like plantains, papayas, oranges and calallo are the basis for the diet. Many combine their foods with a great understanding of their nutrients and the relationships among those nutrients.

Thanks Becky, interesting stuff! I had no idea that Rastas had any dietary restrictions at all. See how much I learn from dissing!

just gonna kinda jump right on in here... for dinner i am making gioza. i don't know if that is how you spell but that is how i spell it. anyway it is very easy to make.

1 lb ground beef
minced garlic to taste
dry cole slaw mix (or you can chop cabbage yourself)
1 can bamboo shoots (chop as many as you want to add)
1 package small won ton wraps

brown ground beef with garlic. drain well. mix in coleslaw and bamboo shoots. place a small amount of mixture in center of won ton. moisten 2 edges and fold over. pinch to seal. (i make triangles. not sure if shape has anything to do with this or not. that is just how my mother/aunt did it.) deep fry until wonton is golden brown or gioza is warmed through. you have to flip once during frying. we like to dip it in soy sauce.

my aunt is from okinawa(sp) and brought this recipe over with her. it is "americanized" a bit. this is a family favorite.

Lauren, Is it too late to marinate a London Broil for tommorrow? Will it take on the flavor, well enough? What do you serve with it?

Kathy and Sheryl--I know it's a bit of a drive--but ya'll are more than welcome to bunk with us if need be!

Dinner last night was a complete bust--not b/c of the food, but b/c on my "quick" trip to Target someone hit my car (no one was in the car at the time). Then she insisted on calling the police (why I don't know the damage was minor--I suggested we just swap info. but whatever--she was clearly in the wrong) So I was at Target for almost 2 hrs. after my shopping was done. But I have to give lots of praise to the Target management, who sent me back in the store (it was 104 degrees and I had both kids with me) and waited for the police for me. They bought us food and snacks for our trouble. And now I"m in the process of calling her insurance company to get an adjuster to process the claim. Ugh!

So, DH ended up picking up a pizza for us. Really bummed too, we were really looking forward to our buffalo chicken lasagna. Tonight DH and I are having a date night, and I'm trying to pick a great restaurant. Hope everyone is having a great day!

Hi! no. throw it in now. It goes best with rice or a nice tossed salad...or both...it really is good.

Did you see my previous post about it? The one where I said I got it from a Vietnamese lady?

Oh, also, poke the meat several times on both sides too! :thumbsup2
