The Official VILLAS at DISNEYLAND HOTEL (Discovery Tower) Owners and Fans Info Thread

Questions for those who have toured the villas...

1. Where do I go to ask about a tour?
2. What type of room do you get to see?
3. Do they do a tour of the entire grounds or just a room?
4. How long did the whole thing last?
5. After a tour, do they take you somewhere and try to do a hard sell on points?

We will be at VGC in December but I really want to see the new VDH villas in person. Our son won't really tolerate any kind of lengthy tour though. Also, we would NOT want to purchase any points at the end of the tour. We are just looking in case we decide to buy there in the future. Do we just tell them that flat out at the start?
Without getting in to the usual +/- of VGC vs VDH which has been debated endlessly, my wife prefers the aesthetic of VDH a lot more than VGC. It's bright, colorful, full of Disney artistry, etc. There has been some question as to the longevity and robustness of the VDH quality but time will tell.

Me personally, I'm ok with both. Love the woodsy craftsman style of VGC. Equally love VDH. If I'm going to Disney, might as well be fully immersed in it while I'm there room included.

You're right though. A room and resort tour is the best way to go.

We adore VGC. In a couple years, we will either add 50-100 more VGC points. Or we might decide to go for 150 direct VDH points. It's probably "too many" points for our traveling style but it's a fun option to think about. A couple things definitely give me pause about VDH though and that's the last of 1-bedrooms compared to the amount of studios. And the other would be the walk to the park gate.

Let me know if you want my guide's contact info. She works onsite there. Actually, they are rotated a lot throughout the parks and the hotels so that everyone has a "fair" chance at sales. Anyway, she hasn't been pushy at all. In fact, she offered to help me get my VGC points, even if I kept my former guide who has been off for over a year. I'm sure you could contact her when it's closer to your vacation and ask if she can arrange a tour of VDH. Let her know that you don't intend to purchase for a year or more and you are still deciding between VDH and VGC.

I’m a fan of the resort. Not a fan of the transient tax. Both can be true and hope this is not a start of a trend for new DVC resorts.
It’s an Anaheim City tax. Imposed by Anaheim not Disney. Expect any future DVC in Anaheim to have them. VGC TOT is subsidized, a deal made with Anaheim for a 45 year duration I believe. From what I’ve read the subsidy was cancelled for future Disney properties when Anaheim wanted certain Minimum wage requirements. Maybe if The future city council is more amicable like the councils in the past they could reintroduce a subsidy/rebate. Covid did show Anaheim how important Disneyland is to Anaheim’s bottom line.

Is the path to the tower still walking through the lobby, and then loop around past all the towers? I keep hoping they will have a more direct route. I know there's sometimes a gate open between the monorail slide and Palm Breeze bar, but it's almost always closed when I am coming and going.

Not that I have seen. We are always sooo happy when the gate to cut through the pool is open.

I know we've really moved on but I'm just catching up and want to set the record straight (yes, I am the setter of records): Encanto is a great Disney movie, one of the best! It teaches that family unity is more important than individual abilities or striving for perfection, and that healing intergenerational trauma--even if it breaks the façade of perfection--is necessary for family well-being.

Now, how do I make this about VDH to stay on topic? Umm, Encanto is represented in the lobby mural, that's nice 😅

My son noticed that right away when we first saw the mural. He loves Encanto

Question - are all the Duo Preferred Studios in the separate wing or are there only a few there? I believe the answer is yes in reading the details on page 1 but wanted to confirm!
Only the Garden’s are the separate building. The Preferred are all in the main tower. A stack with balconies on the palette pool corner area and the others on each side of the grand villas four upper floors, out front without a balcony.

Look on page 1 of this thread. UrsulaWantsYourSoul has done a nice job of posting all the floors with room locations and types. There are Duos on every floor with some floors having more than others.

Great place to get info. Duos are every floor but not in the tower. Garden of course 1&2 being the two stories. In the tower they don’t start until floor 3. Balconies (9 of each category standard & preferred are floors 3-11).

Sigh.. it has came to the point where I am going to have to use my VDH points to book at WDW 😭 I spent points like a drunken sailor and now all I have left to spend is my DLR points. Just thought you all would feel my pain of spending my VDH at 7 months at WDW and not even at RIV that place is $$$

I’ve spent VGC points at WDW if it makes you feel any better.
