Angel,
There is no wi-fi that I know of. Each room has a wired connection. I brought my own wireless router and it worked great. I was able to sit on the balcony and use my laptop.

Thank you for the information Jimbo. How did you plug everything in? Did you have to use the hard line the Poly has in the closet? Or at least I have heard about a hard line in the closet.

I don't know??? :) Maybe reading too quickly? We are staying at the Poly for the first week of our vacation. The part where the whole family is joining us as a suprise for my DH. This is when we have Victoria and Alberts Chef Table booked, going to MVMCP, Sleigh ride, dinner at Artist Point and so much more. The second week we are staying at AKL, our family will be heading home the same day we change over to AKL :grouphug: I am so excited. :yay: :bounce: :Pinkbounc  :cheer2:
Can you tell?

My DH insists that I have selective hearing, and now I see I may have selective reading :guilty: . I know that you will love your family vacation at the Poly, your activities planned sound like so much fun, and the surprise is going to be amazing!

I always think of you as the AKL wild bunch gal, Angel, and I bet you are looking forward to the second half of your getaway as much as the first.

Lagoon view rooms can be found in Tahiti, Tuvalu, Aotearoa and two rooms in Tokelau are designated Lagoon view.

Magic Kingdom View rooms can be found in Tahiti, Tuvalu and Aotearoa.

Hawaii only has concierge lagoon view rooms and Garden view concierge rooms. All the rest have garden view rooms only.

Caution....room 2220 in Aotearoa has absolutely NO lagoon view whatsoever. it faces the lagoon but it is probably the only room on that floor where you can see no water at all. Also, no balconies on that floor. If you look really hard, you can see the very top of the wedding pavilion to the left. I wouldn't recommend anywhere on that second floor as having much of any view, but my particular room, 2220, you are literally looking at a tree!

:joker: I AM A AKL WILD BUNCH GAL! However, I am also A Polynesian, Hawaii Hula Girl. And a future GF Victorian Lady. :goodvibes

It is so wonderful that Disney provides resorts for all our personalities and preferences! :earboy2: And yes, I am looking forward to both parts of our vacation. Ahhhhh :cloud9:

Nancy, As far as your "selective hearing” I believe that is a male dominate problem, so you need not worry. :rotfl:

So I am dying because we don't arrive for 396 days-- woo hoo, under 400!!-- and I was cruising Tikiman's site (thank you Steve!) and found a link to a 1980 Disney video showing the Poly. Disney 1980 Video As I'm sitting here laughing at how dopey all the people look in the clothes, styles-- remember the shorts with the white stripes?? striped tube socks??-- it suddenly occured to me that we went to the Poly for the first time in 1979. So now I'm looking at all the people in the tape thinking, "That could be us!" Gee, we thought we were pretty snazzy then.

Does brink back memories of being 12 and totally awed by the lobby. Of course that was when there were birds all around. My Dad still talks about the several trips we took to Disney--to anyone who will listen! I can't wait 'til he and my mom open their gifts Christmas morning and find out they are going with us!! I hope to get ears for them with their names on them.

If you remember going back then, the video is fun to watch.

Oh those clothes are painful! Thanks for the video tip.

Thank you all for all of your helpful information.
Here's a question about the room. I see a lot about the fridge and from research I see that there are no microwaves. But, the Polynesian, being a higher class place that you would expect to be eating out a lot, I understand. But what about re-heating left-overs.

I hear how big the portions are with the dining plan and we hate to waste food.

Any ideas?
Although it says no microwaves, our room did have one in it. We stayed in Samoa. I would just ask at check in because apparently some rooms have them.

Discovery Island is still there but not accessible. There are always rumors of turning it into something else. It closed in 97 or 98 I believe.

Yup, Discovery Island was closed when everything was moved to Animal Kingdom. That's why the central part of AK is called "Discovery Island," in honor of the origional. :thumbsup2

The Scarlett Macaws that were born at the Polynesian are in that part of Animal Kingdom.

Thanks, Mom of Kay. Good to know. I did happen to request that building. We'll see.

We missed out on this last trip & really want to make sure we see it this time around. We are planning to spend one day totally relaxing at the Poly & have ADRs for Ohana's at 7:30. I know this ceremony starts at 6pm. Where exactly does it start & where is the best place to view it?

It starts in the GCH lower level by the front doors and then moves outside in front of where the parking lot is by those waterfall ponds. It is really fun to see. It started at 6pm when I was there but make sure at the front desk I don't know if the time ever changes.

About the 1980 video (Post 1346). Loved the snippet on the Poly!!! So beautiful! Hey what's wrong with the clothes??? I'm still wearing them! :rolleyes1 They look great with Lime Green Mickey Heads!!! ... now don't avoid talking to the goofball in 80's clothes if you are at the Poly Nov 8-11!! :teeth:

I agree! I'm old enough to remember them and not nearly old enough to be one of the old folks and I know plenty of people who still wear clothes from the eighties. A few years ago, I took my little girl to play with a friend's little boy and I complimented my friend on her sweater which was great. She blushed and said that she'd had it since the eighties. Sometimes I feel like maybe I'm old before my time or I feel like I sound like an old fuddy duddy if a new "season" rolls around in the world of fashion and I don't like much of the new things showing up in the stores. But when I look around, very few people are actually dressing in the new clothes. So I guess it is OK if a few young people think of me as old. I'm happy wearing what I like and ignoring the ever changing world of fashion. ;) Maybe I'll be vindicated if people look back at this decade in the same way that we used to all look at the seventies with horror. :rotfl2:

Does anyone know if the room doors at the Poly are wooden or metal?? For putting up LGMH's of course!!

I believe they are metal.

We just got back from an 8 day trip to the Poly and it was really nice for the most part. I had asked for a 3rd floor castle view but got a bottom floor, corner room....not too happy about that one at first but then the ducks showed up! we had SO MUCH FUN feeding the ducks and "Bark" the goose! we called him "Bark" because he always sounded like he was barking at you! we were in the Hawaii bldg. so we were practically on the beach...it was wonderful. My favorite CM..Becky was a great help when we ran into a problem! the house keeping crew managed to take my daughters Blanky with them when they changed the sheets! she is HEART BROKEN! she has had that blanket since she was 2 years old and it's a comfort thing for her and NOW IT'S GONE! the minute we noticed it was gone we let the Concierge desk know and they called the laundry but there was nothing they could do at the time. They told us the day we left that it would probably be a few more days before they find it in the laundry sorting and that they would send it to us if they find it! I SURE HOPE THEY FIND IT! you would think that house keeping would pay a little more attention to what they were pulling off the bed but I'm sure they do so many beds a day that they don't have time.
We'll just keep our fingers crossed!
Other then that, it was really wonderful and we hope to get a chance to stay there again! Helen
