Hey there, remember me? ;) Just a quick question for 'ya out of curiousity. With the exception of tax and tip, is the cost of tonga toast from room service the same as in the restaurant or Captain Cook's?

Hi again! :wave2:

No, these days Tonga Toast is more expensive than at Kona. The menu I looked at on Deb's site lists it at $11.99 plus there is a small delivery charge and of course tip is added. It is listed as $8.99 at Kona. Not too many years ago, the price was the same or very close but no longer.

I saw the cost of Tonga Toast at the Snack Isle but can't remember it exactly....maybe around $6. But it doesn't include ham, bacon or sausage apparently as it does from room service and Kona.

Thanks BCV23 for your reply. I hear all the time that folks had ample room before the renovations, but I am curious if anyone has used a crib or packnplay since the renovations. If so, where did they put it and how did it fit? I read that if you put it where the adjoining door is that there is not enough room now with the desk and that it sticks way out and blocks the walk way to the closet area.

Surely we have some Dis -parents that have used a crib in a renovated room! :)

Well, here is another bump for you then. I'm sure it would stick out a bit but I don't think much if you place it lengthwise. They are not full size cribs. And as I said, with the original furniture which is not the stuff recently replaced, there was a long dresser too not unlike the more recent armoire. We did have room for the crib in that space way back then.

Here's hoping someone pops along with an answer for you! :sunny:

Probably already been asked, but I have a garden view room reserved. How do I make sure I get a renovated room with the best view?

Hi everyone! We have just returned from a 5 night stay at the Poly, and we were very pleased! We used a TA to book our trip and our only request was that a patio/balcony was important.
We ended up on the first floor of the Fiji buiding. At first my husband didn't seem pleased, but after one day -- we realized we were very happy with our room. We had paid for a garden view room, and then we faced the marina area and could see space mountain. Fiji was close the the Ceremonial House and also close to the Volcano pool. All of this was important as our children are 3 and 6.
We did have dinner one night at the Grand Floridian. My husband was wowed and wants to stay there next time. I don't know...
I sure do miss reading this and looking foward to our vacation! :(

Thanks again, BCV23. You are always so helpful on this board! :smokin:

Beth Cat, why was your husband not pleased at first? I hope you will consider doing a trip report. I would love to hear all about it. :yay:

I don't see how a port-a-crib would fit in the adjoining/connecting door area. I barely had room to lay a large suitcase there for repacking dirty clothing and it is certainly smaller than a port-a-crib/pack-n-play. You are also correct, there is no room between the bed nearest the bathroom area. You will have space to set it up near the balcony doors or window (if you have no patio or balcony). It is easy enough to slide the chair and ottoman over and there will be plenty of space for your pack-n-play there. With the removal of the table and chairs, the door area is more wide open.

Hope that answers your question.

Thanks, Tess! I thought I had heard that about the spot near the adjoining door!

Sorry your recent trip was not as magical as you hoped! Sounds like it felt like an end of an era . . .

Beth Cat - We loved FIGI -- nice view for Garden View!!!

This time cause I waited so long to make my reservations, I am in a Suite Concierge Room. OK - it's called the Honeymoon Suite. My DH rolled his eyes -- but it looks cute! I know it is in Tonga which also faces the marina. Well, it will be our 21st Wedding Anniversary sooo ... why not have a jacuzzi tub! Big enough for both of us!

Can't wait to get back to the world!!!

Has anyone stayed in one of the renovated Poly rooms and used a crib or a PacknPlay? If so, I would like to know about your experience. Thanks!

In Samoa last week there was a room on the first floor that had their drapes open. There was a pack and play right up against the middle of the sliding doors. That would be a renovated room. My mom could back her ECV into the space between the desk and the wall of our room. That would be were a door is to the other room if there was one. You might be able to squeeze a pac n play in there but it might stick out. I don't remember how wide a pac n play is either.

:smokin: Right back at you, fircat.

Tess, have you decided where you will vacation next summer?

SnwflkCts: Congratulations on your up coming anniversary! I think it's great that you booked the Honeymoon Suite! puts a little spice back in the marriage! :rotfl2: and to go with just the two of you is extra special too.
Have a wonderful time...not that I have to tell you that or anything! :teeth: Helen

Can someone please confirm that I can get a glass of wine in the evenings in the Concierge Lounge at the Polynesian?
Thanks!

:wave2: Hello Johnsonet. While I am looking forward to my first trip to the Poly, I can tell you that based on everything I read . . . you most definitely CAN get a glass a wine in the evenings. I think it is from 5 pm - 7 pm each evening and then from 7 pm - 10 pm they have cordials. Not sure if you can still get the wine from 7 pm - 10 pm . . . hmmm.

If you haven't already, check out Tikiman's web site. It is full of fab info on the Poly and they have a whole page on the concierge offerings.

Yes, at least no problem for me last year. I just asked.

:smokin: Right back at you, fircat.

Tess, have you decided where you will vacation next summer?

Not yet. . . :confused3 . We've been tossing around ideas, i.e., Jamaica, England, Mexico, or possibly a cruise (not Disney though :guilty: ). Then again, we may just take a break from vacationing altogether and hang around our pool. . .although that possibility doesn't float my boat. :rolleyes1

Our oldest is heading off to college in August and we're thinking we may want to wait until we get through semester 1 and see how it goes--whether we want to spend a large amount of money vacationing or save for our daughter's senior trip (2008) to Disney. She is certain she wants to return to the Polynesian for that visit. :thumbsup2

After we've had time to think about it, my husband just didn't feel the concierge service was worth the price at this stage of our lives. I disagree to a point, but who knows what our future vacationing needs may be. With our son in college, we just don't know if he'll be joining us next year or when our daughter is a senior--I guess we're kind of in a holding pattern to see where life is going to take us now that we are the parents of an "adult".

Thanks for asking BCV23. . .my husband did offer to go next summer, but wants to get back to our "roots", I think he's still trying to recreate magic that will never be the same. . .our magic is now going to be different and we need to go with it instead of trying to recreate it. KWIM?

We just returned from a 7 night stay at the Polynesian GVC (3rd floor) and there was plenty of room for a crib or pack n play between the sliding doors and bed. There is a chaise lounge positioned sideways in the area, that can be moved forward.

Thanks, First Timer! I really appreciate your response. Do you have a trip report yet, because I would love to hear about your trip? We are also staying GVC, but were thinking of requesting 1st floor so we would have the patio. Our thought was that when DS18months is awake one of us could let him toddle about outside while the rest were getting ready. Also, when he naps each day or goes to bed, we could sit outside and still one of us could access the lounge for beverages without having to go in and out of the hotel door.

My concern is that if the location you describe, by the sliding glass doors, is the only reasonable spot for the crib . . . will we still be able to come in and out of the sliders with the crib right there?

Thanks again for responding!

Tess, How wise you are! Our son finished college and married last year so our vacations for the past few years have been DH, me and DD (no DS :guilty: as he could rarely travel with us). It's hard to adjust but realizing you can't recreate past vacations is a perfect start.

Pretty soon it will just be DH and me and I'm already planning "just us" trips.

Enjoy this summer with your son - it's a special time.

You are quite welcome Firkat. Yes you will definitely have room to go back and forth. There was a little round table in the corner as well that can easily be moved. But you should have no problem going in and out of the sliding doors.

We liked the third floor for the balcony and privacy. We did not have much of a view as we had a huge tree in the way but that was fine. We could see a little of the walk way and only used the balcony to sip our coffee and prepare for the day. I can understand why you would rather be on the first floor though.

Well this would be my first trip - so I will try my best and be brief as well.

We opted for the magic express and it worked out great. We did not have to wait on line perhaps because we had an early flight we arrived by 8:30AM to the airport and zipped through everything. I think we were on the bus by 8:45AM. Everyone was very nice and friendly. When we arrived at the Polynesian I was so impressed. It was just like all the pictures I have seen on this site as well as Tikiman's site. However, even though I planned and planned and read everything (to the point that my husband thought I was obsessed) We bypassed the baggage kiosk and went straight in to the GCH and ended up lugging our luggage all the way to the Hawaii bldg. When I stopped by the bell desk at the GCH the bell check (clerk?) told me that they were extremely busy right now and that we would have to haul our own luggage - even though I told him we were staying in the concierge bldg. I was so happy to be at the poly that I decided not to push the issue. Did not want to be accused of being a pushy New Yorker!

So we arrived at the Hawaii bldg. and Barbie checked us in. She was so funny and very very attentive. Our room was not ready so we left the luggage and strolled around, checked out the lounge (which is really great).

We had lunch at Kona's cafe. Checked out all the stores, relaxed in the lounge and killed time until we could check in to our room. It was finally ready by 3PM. The room was large, clean and comfortable. The family had a rest while I unpacked. That first night we decided to go to MGM. All was well up until this point. People were like animals. Four buses passed and took only two to three people at a time. As a result the line grew longer and longer. We waited almost and hour before we were able to squish ourselves on one. Believe me I take public transportation into the City everyday and the last thing I wanted to deal with on my magical vacation was a packed bus with irate bus drivers and hulligans breaking into the back doors of the bus. Also, the people waiting on the end of the line would rush to the front stepping on any one in their way (including small children) to make that particular bus. Needless to say because I was on vcation and believe in teaching my children manners I was calm and cool and eventually my husband got us on bus number 4! MGM was great though (crowded) but great. My DD5 passed out while waiting for the return bus and I carried her while on line and all the way back to the Hawaii bldg. DH took over from there. I vowed that that would not happen again. We decided we would cab it to MGM in the furture. We also asked concierge for a stroller and used it the entire stay! It was great to have your own stroller in and out of the parks. No one took it I guess because it clearly states the Polynesian across the hood and is green in color.

The room was cleaned very well each and ever day. Turn down service (which I never really gave much thought to) was wonderful as well. Over all it was a great stay and my family and I would not dream of staying anywhere else. We would also do concierge as the attention and convenience can not be beat!

My DH was very sick on the third day (perhaps the heat) and I needed water for him. I stopped by the lounge and spoke to one of the people that are available in the lounge and she sweetly gave me two bottles of water, and a bottle of perrier, lime and a package of crackers. She told me it was quite common to become ill with the hot weather, humidity and travellers from all over the world. She recommended that he eat light and rest in bed for the day. She did not have to do this but that is the point - Concierge is fabulous! If not for Tikiman's recommedndation I would have paid for a view of the MK and never seen a single fireworks show (wishes) as we spent everynight in the parks watching either wishes or illuminations! So it was well worth it. One thing I will say is that I was appalled by the behavior of some of the guests. They were demanding, rude and arrogant to the concierge staff. Because you pay a little extra for concierge service certainly does not entitle one to be nasty.

The snacks and appetizers, fruit, juices, cookies, etc. were delicious. We mostly made it for the afternoon snacks as we were always running around but it was great for the kids to go to the lounge (DD15 and DD 5) and have a quick snack in between trips to the park.

I guess for the rest of the report I will have to post to another thread. The dining, parks, etc.

I loved it all though and was so sad to leave. I am already planning a return trip though! I guess I will have to change from First timer to Two Timer!!

Have a great trip Firkat - I will gladly answer any other questions you have - if I can! :teeth:
