I'd have a look at Samoa, Nuie and Rarotonga with a request to overlook the quiet pool, but then you have a lot of good feedback on Fiji as well although it is slightly longer walk from the TTC.

I am keeping our fingers crossed that the schedule will complete on time as we are due to arrive on 9/23 with Tokelau as our requested longhouse.

Our family is staying at the poly for the first time in September. Our kids will be 2 & 6. Shoukd we request a balcony or patio. I already requested Samoa. Will it be too noisy? I want to be near the volcano pool and the GCH. Thanks for any opinions. How many request can you make? I thought about Fiji for my next choice.

If you rent a bike, where are you allowed to ride it?

There's a map on the bike which gives you the routes and paths you are able to take. In general, you can ride throughout the Poly (some exceptions around high traffic areas like the pools and entrance) and up to the GF, but not all over it's grounds.

Thanks for all of the great information! I think I saw it somewhere (or maybe not, I have been known to make things up in my head;) ) but is it possible to call the Poly and order a birthday cake for my son to either have in the room or preorder for one of our dinners there? If so, who do I call and how far in advance do I need to make that call? TIA!!

**Do they have any special "order in advance special desserts like the Cinderella's Slipper Dessert at the GF? :)

Hello All,

I'm new to this board and I wanted to ask everyone an opinion. My family and I are taking our FIRST trip to Disney ever and we are staying at the Poly cuz it looks FABULOUS. My kids are 18, 16 and 10. The big question.........which longhouse to stay in? I requested garden view and a ground floor room, and had originally thought Tokelau...as the rooms are a little larger...however, Tikiman's website said it was being renovated when we are there. I would like to get a newer room, quiet, but not too far, and with as much room as possible........SO....would you all recommend Samoa or somewhere else?

I REALLY appreciate your input! :thumbsup2

have you looked into Fiji?
I think that may be another good option as your children are older and the walk to the pool and beach and GCH are not far from Fiji...it may be more peaceful I don't really know...I can imagine pool side of Samoa might get busy and maybe loud at times (no experience with this...just a guess...)
the second floor of Fiji does not have a balcony just fyi...
the side that views the GF was very nice IMO and I never heard the Luau music in the room unless I opened the doors to purposely listen (which I did several times...who can find drums annoying??? )
plus I am sure that all of Fiji is remodeled. I am sure that I have read on this board somewhere that the size in the rooms are not that much of a difference to request one over the other for that specific reason if that helps..

Have a great time at the Poly...it is fabulous you made a great choice!

Thanks so much for your input! I called the Poly direct last night and they said that the Fiji is completely renovated...so I requested it...ground floor. Keep my fingers crossed.

ps...I am MORE excited than my kids!! ;)

I really like Samoa and Rarotonga is a good choice also. Samoa is done and Rarotonga should be done soon. I would choose Tokelau over both but there are many great locations. Just keep in mind that the best time to do a request is when you booked your trip. When you call the Polynesian’s phone number you don’t actually call the resort at all. You call Disney Reservations and hopefully the request gets noted properly. If not just see what is available when you check in. If you are going in the summer there is a good chance that they will have something to choose from since they just told me that they are only at about 50% occupancy through most of this summer and that is even with the two buildings closed and not counted.

Aloha

Steve

Do you think May would be less full too? We are going May 10-17th!

I have not heard anything about May but they mentioned June getting full and December is already out of some room categories.

I will be staying at the Polynesian for the first time this May. We requested the Samoa bldg because it has the renovated rooms and we don't mind if the pool outside is noisy.

I just noticed that in my Passporter book it shows the Samoa bldg as a smoking bldg. That would not be good because I am allergic to smoke.

I would greatly appreciate some help!

Thanks :confused3

Passporter is incorrect. Samoa is non-smoking and there have been to complete rehabs of the rooms since it became non-smoking so there should be no smoke smell anywhere.

Ok...I am driving myself insane trying to request the "perfect" building as we have wanted to take the kids to the Poly since the first time we were at Disney. They LOVE the monorail (actually DS14 really wanted a tower room at the Contemporary).....here goes my wishlist..we would like a newly renovated room with a great view (monorail view would be a bonus). We plan to walk to the TTC to go to EPCOT just one day of the 7 that we are there so being close to the TTC is not that important but we would like to be close to the volcano pool and the food court which brings me to my second question.....I received Steve's email update that Captain Cooks will be closed for our stay. Will we have somewhere to grab a quick bite and refill our mugs? Will there be a "temporary" food court?

Any help with a building request and the food court question would be so much appreciated :)

Thanks!

I think I missed something. When is Capt. Cook's closing. We'll be at the Poly July 19-23. If it is closed then what about the refillable mugs?

I believe Steve's site says there will be a temporary location open during Captain Cook's remodeling--but I'm really curious about this too since we're staying there during the scheduled rehab (July 10-18). Does anyone know more than that? And if there is a temporary location, would the menu be the same? Would they have a grill or just premade food?
