I was also told this when i made my august ressie they said saomoa was the other building and you can walk over to hawaii for food
but all the sites say it isnt so.. i requested hawaii 1st or 3rd floor
we are staying gv concierge

Interesting....I wonder if more people are upgrading their reservation due to the free dining? Sounds like this could be the case, and the Poly is simply turning one of the "regular" longhouses (or part of it) into a concierge building to accomodate the increased requests for concierge? If this is the case, I would think the concierge lounge would be pretty crowded (just thinking out loud, I've never stayed concierge).

I don't know but I was told on the phone, for my dates, there were no more GV or GVC rooms available...only LV,LVC AND MKV
I persisted and called three times and finally got the answer I was looking for.
becuase online they show availability with the free dining for the GV but not GVC the last time I looked anyway.

maybe someone with a better understanding can answer better than I did.

yeah its crazy i get a different answer everytime i call
but teh CMs always try to help me the best they can
i think free dining is make it a whole new ball game

TheIncredibles: I see that you've stayed in Poly CL Lagoon view. Do you have pics to share?
Does anyone have pics to share of that level? Thanks in advance.

Hawaii is one of the concierge buildings--Tonga the other. The latter consists primarily of suites and is located adjacent to the GCH. Hawaii is beachfront facing the castle and between the volcano and quiet pool. You will not be able to use Hawaii as a food service source unless you are staying concierge.

Captain Cook's will be relocating to a building which houses The Neverland Club, laundry, and arcade. There is a separate side to this building that is used primarily for accommodating large private functions, i.e., weddings, receptions, etc. It is equipped and was, in fact, previously used as a restaurant facility at the resort. Steve's site will give you the proposed dates for the relocation--I'm thinking he said it was June-August????, but don't quote me on that because I can't recall the exact time frame. In any event, there will be a "fast food" type location for refillable mugs, quick service, etc. I am not sure--and I'm not sure if Steve knows for certain--what the food offerings will be during the relocation. I would imagine the offerings would be similar to what is currently available. The space in Tangaroa Terrace is fairly large.

Steve's site will also give you up to date information about building rehabs. If I recall correctly, Tahiti and Rarotonga are scheduled to be remodeled during the summer months, e.g., July and August (perhaps late June)--again, don't quote me, I'm going from my memory of events.

As to your "perfect" room location, I have two in mind--Samoa would be close to both pools and the GCH, but no monorail view. Nuie would also be close to both pools--again no monorail view. Tokelau would also be a great option, close to the quiet pool, not too far from the volcano, and very near the relocated Captain Cook's, arcade, The Neverland Club, laundry, and bus stop. If you want a monorail view, you will be on the exterior facing side of any of the longhouses adjacent to the monorail line. Hence, you would be away from the pools, but still not far from anything.

Samoa, Nuie, and Tokelau offer great pool/garden views and are centrally located within the resort. For me, anywhere you stay at Polynesian will have benefits and it's very hard to say one is more perfect than the next. I hope this narrows down your choices. That said, if you look at a map of the property (check out Steve's website) you will have a really good idea of what appeals to your heart's desire.

Good luck making your decision! Polynesian is certainly our favorite resort at WDW. :wizard:

We've stayed Poly LVC several times, most recently last October (shortly after they reopened after the rehab). Here are a few pics:

I was wondering if at the poly they play the music from wishes like they do at they Cali Gril. Thanks for the info! :teeth:

Hello, I was wondering if anyone knows how long Captain Cook's will be closed? We are staying at Poly Labor Day week for 10 days. I was hoping it will be done by first week of September. We do like to grab CS for breakfast during our stay. Also I wanted to purchase the resort mugs. I heard they moving Captain Cook's? Is that going to be a major disaster? Thanks

Although the sound can be spotty, Wishes is piped in around the beach, volcano pool, and the quiet pool areas. Additionally, it is played in the concierge lounge for the CL guests and, I believe, in 'Ohanas--not sure about the majority of the GCH because if we are viewing, it's from outside, in the lounge, or within the MK.

I took a stab at answering these questions in a post on the prior page--it may be helpful to you as well. :bitelip:

Hi there! I am going in June and have requested Fiji 3rd floor marina, that is where we were last year and loved it. With Capt. Cooks moved, we were thinking maybe asking for Rarotonga 3rd floor facing the quiet pool if any rooms are available, at check in. Anyone have any pictures of this view? Steve's site doesn't have this particular view. Just curious. Thanks!

Steve sent out an email to those of us on his list in the past few days that said:

"TENTATIVE DATES for Captain Cook's to be closed and
relocated are May 20 until mid September."

Thanks for the info Tess! I am planning a trip with a 1 year old and I don't know that the baby,(or the granparents) will make it to see them at MK,I am happy that we will be able to hear the soundtrack from the poly! :yay:

I really like Samoa and Rarotonga is a good choice also. Samoa is done and Rarotonga should be done soon. I would choose Tokelau over both but there are many great locations. Just keep in mind that the best time to do a request is when you booked your trip. When you call the Polynesian’s phone number you don’t actually call the resort at all. You call Disney Reservations and hopefully the request gets noted properly. If not just see what is available when you check in. If you are going in the summer there is a good chance that they will have something to choose from since they just told me that they are only at about 50% occupancy through most of this summer and that is even with the two buildings closed and not counted.

Aloha

Steve

Hi Steve,

Thanks so much for answering me. You didn't say too much about Fiji? Do you think it's a good choice or not? Also, with the Disney dining..(hurray), I'm surprised that the hotel isn't filling up.

Aloha,

Niloogirl,

Fiji is not my first choice but that is not based on any facts that there is anything wrong with Fiji. There are just other longhouses I myself would choose first. Fiji has great views and many love the location. I am not a fan of staying in the longhouses on the west side of the marina. When I stayed in Tuvalu I got tired of walking around the whole marina to get to the pools or boat to the MK and the TTC (that I use a lot) was that much farther. That is just my opinion so you should make up your own mind about what you think you would like. There are many here that think Fiji is the best location.

Aloha

Steve

My DW and I will be spending just one night at the Poly before moving over to the BCV. We will be checking in about 11:30 am and staying at the resort all day. We have an ADR at Ohana, but what else would you say we should do that day?
