Would anyone here recommened staying at Fiji? We've stayed here before and loved it, and were wondering if anyone else really liked it too?

Loved FIGI but I keep telling you all to pick some other longhouse so there is room left for ME in 2007!!!! :teeth:

Still trying to figure out what I get for turn down service as I am staying concierge in November 2006 (anniversary - probably never get to stay concierge again cause I am too cheap!) ... anyway ... did I read milk and cookies????

Milk and cookies are not part of the turn down service. In the evening they come to the room, take your trash, sometimes give you towels, turn back your covers, arrange your pillows and leave a few chocolates.

This service can be requested in any room, not just concierge. Concierge it is done automatically.

Nice Reprot Fizz! Did you eat at any of the Poly's restaurants or use the marina?

Amanda, that's just another example of why Tikiman's website is the best place on the internet to find the most complete information about the Polynesian Resort!
:thumbsup2

Hey Rich  Neat to see you. I second Tikiman's website as the best place for information as well as inspiration about the Poly. I love it

Hi MickeyMoz

I only ate at ohana breakfast which I wrote about. meant to use the marina but ran out of time, there was always boats/ watermice available though ;)

hey all, just wanted to see if anyone had any ideas. we are booked for poly 2007 (i'm a planner). the kids love the idea there is a pool right off some of the garden view rooms. obviously, we would need to stay first floor, so they can walk from the room to the pool without going through the lobby. Does anyone know how specific i need to be when requesting a room? Do I need to request a room number, or just a general idea? Just as a note, Tikiman has such a knowledge of the Poly, it amazed me. His posts and web site was actually the deciding factor between the Poly and Contemporary. Thanks to all who post ideas, concerns, and magical info.

:wave2: Hello. As far as the Hawaii longhouse is concerned, I believe it is an all-concierge level building. So, as long as you book concierge level, you will get the Hawaii longhouse (except for suites). One side of the longhouse faces the lagoon with castle views and the other side is a garden view with I think some views of the quiet pool. Tikiman's site shows actual photographs of the various views.

If you will not be booking concierge level, you could request Samoa. I have read many reviews on this thread of folks who enjoyed being able to walk out of their room right at the Volcano pool. I think that so long as you make your request when you book your reservation, they will make every attempt to accomodate you. However, it is never guaranteed.

Have a great time planning!

We are booked for the Polynesian next year, but having 2nd thoughts. Reading in Disney Guide books and messages posted, sounds like they are having CS issues. Should I be worried? We have never stayed on property before and just want to make sure we are getting our money's worth and this will be a good first experience. Thanks

I believe the only issue is that it is in a temporary location. If you are going next year, it may be in its permanent location by then. Sounds like they have a lot of choices in food (even at the temporary location!) and even Tonga Toast (fabulous and usually only at the TS Kona!). I just LOVED the Poly -- I think you would get your money's worth even with NO counter service!

Just curious - what about the counter service has you worried - not trying to be mean, just curious -- is it the refillable mugs??? That is the only thing I believe they are not offering when they are in the temporary location. When are you going in 2007? (I believe it is next March or April??? if I read the ticker right - Captain Cook should be in permanent location by then).

I think you should hang tight, plan to stay at the Poly - you will have a fabulous time - I love the location, the casual atmoshphere, watching Wishes from the beach. It is wonderful! :thumbsup2

Hi All!!

Dh & I just upgraded our trip for 11/4-11/8 this year to the OLY from POR. We are excited and are trying not to read the bad reviews. We just got back from a trip to CSR with the kids and are looking forward to relaxing. We do have a few questions if you don't mind.

1) What is the bus situation at the POLY? Do we have to go to the TTC for the bus or does the POLY have a bus station?

2) We booked a Garden View Room, everything seems so spread out on the map, I would like a balcony & be closer to the great ceremonial House what non-smoking building should I request?

3) Does anyone know if they will have the refillable mugs by November? DH collects them for each resort we stay at even if he doesn't use it.

Thanks in advance!

POR is really nice, but you will see that the Poly is a definite step up. You made a great decision.

The Poly has its own bus station, but it's also not a long walk to the TTC if you'd like to take the Monorail to Epcot.

Regarding the room location, we were one of the building right next to the GCH and it was Nieu, although it could have been a smoking room. We don't smoke and never saw anyone smoking but who knows. Next to that is Samoa and that's right in front of the Volcano Pool. We were told it is the most requested Building. We request Samoa but didn't get it~Nieu was great~actually better because it was a bit quiter yet closer to the GCH.

Don't know when Cap'n Cook will be back up and running but I can't imagine it taking as long as til November. The mugs will be back when they re-open.
Have a blast! :thumbsup2

My family and I will be staying at Poly for the first time and we are really excited!!! I do have a few questions. My children are quite young...ages 3 and 1. Does anyone know if there is a playground located at or near Poly? Also...any suggestions on activities for children this age at Poly (other than the pool)?

Thanks! :)

Sorry, I meant CS to stand for customer service...that is what I am concerned about. I have read some negative comments in Disney
Unofficial guides and on the boards.

FINFAN,

Do you request a late checkout when you check in or the day before check out? We are going in late October and also have a late plane flight out.

Thanks!

In my opinion, you can look in the unofficial stuff and boards and find negative comments about customer service anywhere. It really is true what they say, a person who has a good time tells their friends, a person who has a bad time tells everyone. I think most complaints you here about places are isolated events, but it's those things you hear about more than the good things. I had a very bad experience with several employees one time at Universal's IOA. Do I think that is normal? Probably not. Everyone has bad days and I think I just got caught in someone elses. I've been to IOA several times and had fun, but that bad time still sticks in my memory, it's just how things work :confused3

Yes, I agree with ConcKahuna. The negative comments get blown out of proportion and take on a life of their own on the DIS while reports of great interactions slip to the second page with just a comment or two.

We've been staying at the Polynesian since 1983 and think the CMs are wonderful. In all those years, there have been a couple of less than positive interactions but no one has ever been rude. In fact, those interactions probably wouldn't even be a blip on my day anywhere else but at the Polynesian and WDW in general we all become so accustomed to great CMs that those few who aren't having a magical day do stand out.

I'll chime in and agree the last several posters. Negative comments tend to get more billing more often than the positive. That said, we've stayed at the Poly our last three trips with the most recent in 1/2006, and the CMs have been stellar.
