Yes, I have gone to Tikiman's site. Yes, I have tried to figure this out myself...but let's just say I am challenged. :rotfl: I cannot make heads or tails of the answer to this (and not because Tikiman doesn't explain it correctly, it's a deficency of mental capacity on my part;)). Anyway, here is the question:

We would like to be near a parking lot (as close as possible, we plan on driving most places and would like it to be an easy walk back to the room at night, I hear the plant life will most likely cover the cars from view) and my boys would LOVE to have a monorail view. Last consideration (and the one I am the most trouble figuring out) is that we would also like to be in one of the longhouses closest to the TTC. The reason I may not be able to figure out a request for this, may be that these requests would be impossible together...but if they are not... What do I request at check in to hopefully get this if my request can be filled?

THANKS!! :teeth:

The perfect location for you would be Rapa Nui. It has its own parking lot right against the building and is next to the path to the TTC. Ask for a room facing away from the parking lot.

Oh, so true, Steve. I misread his post and thought he wanted to be near the GCH.

However, the view of the monorail from Rapa Nui is a much more distant one. But that parking lot is sweet! :thumbsup2

Does anyone have any pictures or discriptions of what Private Dining has available. I would like to have something waiting in the room for my DH, also in the rooms for our daughters and their family. I have heard about the Romance Turndown and such, but I was wondering what else they have.

Does anyone have the phone number for private dining?

Try this . . . http://www.allearsnet.com/menu/men_polr.htm for the regular room service menu.

Also, thanks to KristineN who posted this on another thread based on a call to IPO . . .

THANK YOU!! For the answer, for your site, for sharing your insights...it's all appreciated!! :):)

We always look to see if the boat is there or coming, if not we take the monorail.

Be careful what time you get the boat round 9 at night.
the ELP is at 9: 15, so the boat stops for a few minutes.

We got off at GF and walked. It's a nice walk at night.

I'm sure this is somewhere but I just cant find it...are there blowdryers at the Poly and if so how good are they??? Trying to avoid bringing my own if possible. TIA!!

Also, is there a place at the resort for ds to get a hot dog?? I dont see them on the menu at Capt. Cooks???

There are no longer hot dogs available at Captain Cooks. They have been replaced by the grilled cheese. I believe you can still get a hotdog to go from Kona's.

The Milk and Cookie turndown service sounds nice. Has anyone ever tried it. We just booked yesterday for May. I wanted to try concierge but with the dining plan it is just too much food not to mention too much money. I would love to try to incorporate little "concierge" touches into our stay.

Question for Tikiman: Tokelau is close till October 2006. Any chance it'll be opening back up earlier? We're arriving on Sept. 18th.

Is regular turndown service free? Non concierge, non milk and cookies?

Not much chance. They have 144 rooms to do. Longhouses that have half that took 2 months to do.

There is no charge for turndown service for non-concierge guests. It just has to be requested and it does not come with milk and cookies.

For those of you who request rooms here is some info on how the rooms are assigned.

Lets start with saying that requesting a room, building or anything else is best done when you make your reservation. If you try and get the request in later there are factors that could lead to it not being noted properly. Also when you call the Polynesian phone number and speak to someone, that someone is not at the Polynesian at all. They are in a call center away from the resort and in most cases have little knowledge of the resort. Emailing any request can only be done if you are staying concierge since there is no email address for the Polynesian other than the email for the Planning Office. Faxing request was not only discouraged by CMs at the resort but can end up being thrown out with the other junk faxes that come through. It does sometimes work but a while back they actually asked that this not be done.

So as far as when the resort gets your reservation and request, here is what someone at the resort sent to me as an explanation not too long ago.

“The room reservation comes from the DRC (disney reservation
center) to the resort 5 days out. (we cant see the resv. in the
computer till then) Then the rooms team go thru all the requests and
try to meet those based upon whats currently checked-in.

Reservations without a request dont get assigned and at Check-In the
computer does whats called a "auto-In House" (the computer looks at
the rack and sees whats available) (holes) where rooms are empty and
comes up with a list that the Cast Member can select from before the
keys get cut.

If your a group/ Magical Gathering they (the rooms team) will really
try and book the rooms together "pre-assign (the reservation has room
#'s attached)" and find open rooms for this first. Again if the rooms have no requests then the computer grabs the room, suggests to the CM whats available, the CM can select one of the 5 rooms that "pop up" or go into the rack and find a "working vacancy" and then check with the
Rooms Team if the new room works for a fit for the (holes) that are
in the system. Downside is when we are 100% occupancy the computer
will start issuing smoking optional rooms as whats left.”

Well, we are leaving in a few hours for our weekend at the Poly!

I just called the front desk to let them know we are having a very late check in.

A BIG THANKS to everyone who has taken the time to post here - especially STEVE and his TIKIMAN site!

The first thing I am going to do after I check in tonight is stand in the middle of the resort and BREATHE - I want to take it all in >> the sounds, the music, the View of the Castle from the lake. Since 1984, when I first went to Disney, I have always wanted to Stay at the Poly - and finally, 22 years later, I am THERE.

:thanks: Cathy

Have a great trip!!!

I just wanted to say "Tikiman you are my IDOL!"

Anyways, regarding Captain Cooks breakfast. Will they still have their sausage there? I am honestly in love with the sausage at the Polynesian. If I dont have it i'll be crying for a month.

And lastly, on the same topic as the first sentence:

Tikiman your site is my hero!!

I've heard that you can hear cars from the speedway. Is this true?

Is the Samoa longhouse's rehab completely done? Does the whole building have the new headboards? We've decided to do a quick weekend trip in two weeks and are staying garden view. I would REALLY like to have a new room complete with the new headboards that were delayed etc... Thanks for any info, I couldn't tell from Tikimans site if any longhouses were completely done?
