Oh man, you could have sold that map on ebay for big $$$, too bad someone colored on it ;)

How do you like the Rarotonga longhouse? I am going to the Poly for the first time this year, and I will be solo, so I wanted to be close to the Great Ceremonial House. So I requested Rarotonga, thrid floor. Is that good?

My family stayed on 3rd floor of Rarotonga last month--best vacation ever. I would request the pool side rather than the monorail side--we got the latter, not that it took anything away from the vacation. In hind sight, I'd probably also ask for a room close to the elevator--mine was the furthest. Again, not a big deal, just mentioning things that would add to the convenience factor, especially if you have little ones in tow. The room was beautiful, housekeeping always did a fantastic job, and the location was wonderful. You're right next to GCH for food and monorail access, VERY close to the bus stop, and a short walk from the TTC to get to Epcot. Beautiful resort.

Hi! :bitelip:

I have a question for those in the know about Poly. My family of 4 is booked into Poly Sept 13-18 in a lagoon view room with DDP. I have seen lots of info about what to request for garden or pool view (not sure which view is what but I do know that we have lagoon) as well as concierge but not a lot about which would be the best request to make for us. My kids are 5 and 3 and so I am thinking that a central location will be important for us (to the GCH and pool I am guessing?). One of the main factors for me will be that it is a non smoking room and has recently been renovated.
Also, has there been a lot of cases of upgrading to concierge level? Is it even something to hope for or is it no big deal. I might have considered paying for it until DDP came along. Are there other advantages besides the snacks and the help with reservations (my ADRs are already made)? I'm always up for an upgrade but the most important thing to me is a good room for the level that I'm paying for.
Soooo...? What do you suggest?

Thanks so much in advance!

Hi all!!

We are going to WDW form 12/9-12/15 (if nothing comes up). I just booked 2 nights of our 6-night trip at the POLY. I requested Fiji, 3rd floor. Tikiman's site was very helpful in my decision. . .THANKS STEVE!!

Has anyone here ever stayed in that longhouse? Just like to get some opinions :).

I am SO excited about our first POLY stay :goodvibes .

Happy planning, all!

LOVED FIGI, third floor -- we were facing the marina. Beautiful view. Very convenient to Ceremonial House -- (and also transportation and food!). Our room was large and comfortable.

Of course it was my first visit to WDW and I was just thrilled with the Poly and the available transportation. I hope you have a FABULOUS time! We certainly did!

Watching Wishes from the beach area was very romantic (if not too many other watchers) and you will love the pathways - fun to walk and explore.

Kona was wonderful to eat at - my DH and I loved it enough to eat there twice! Ohana's had great atmosphere, good food - but I didn't like the meat. Captain Cooks was fine for counter service and snacks. We didn't go to the Luau but I bet that is great if you are planning that.

PS: Agree about Tikiman's site! :teeth:

Thanks so much, SnwflkCts  ! I'm glad you enjoyed your first stay there :).
I'll try to add marina view to my requests. . . that's the side I'd really like to be on, too!

We will be there the same time. Glad my site helped. Fiji is a good choice. I put it 3rd on my list of the best garden view locations.

Aloha

Well once every room is done and it is based on view and location I would have my list as #1 and #2 for garden views as this:

1. Tokelau for larger rooms, balconies on both upper floors, central location to everything and best of all many of the rooms have great lagoon views and even views of the fireworks and castle.
2. Samoa for its location and it has either a view of the quiet pool or of the Volcano pool with the lagoon off to the right. The corner room on the upper floors has a glimpse of the castle and fireworks.

Those are just my pics. Fiji is a great longhouse also. Just not my favorite. It would be the next on the list though.

i was wondering what the toiletries are at the poly
is it the mickey stuff like at all the other resorts?

For quite a few years now, the toiletries have been the standard Mickey type. Many moons ago they were speciifc to the Polynesian. I haven't been there since January of this year but they were still Mickey then.

Aren't you staying club level? You do get some extras there...toothbrush, etc..

I am so tempted to upgrade to concierge level for our stay in October, but I'm just not sure it is worth it for us. I have all of our ADR's done, and I've read that it is not really "wise" to invest in concierge just for the food/drinks...which would be one of my main reasons for upgrading. We're going at a slower time of year, so the special check-in, while nice, isn't a necessity. Can anyone confirm my decisions??? If not, I guess we'll be upgrading! LOL! Thanks!

I see from your siggie that you'll be staying at POLY. My advise, based on our personal experiences, would be if you can afford it then definitely upgrade!!!

In our opinion, if you want a water view the Hawaii building, which houses concierge guests, is the best building for view. We always stay lagoon view.

The food is great but chances are you won't be there for every offering. But we have found for our family (DH, three DSs - 17, 13 & 12 - and myself) the breakfast, snacks and unlimited drinks during the day almost covers the cost of the upgrade!!

I also take care of our ADRs myself. I like doing it myself and eliminating the middleman. :teeth: However, once you get there if you decide to add anything or change anything it's so nice to be able to just stop at the concierge desk and have them do it for you!!

BTW - We went last October and in October of 2004...perfect time of the year to go!

Hi!! We're leaving in the morning!! OMG, we're so excited!! First time for the our boys to be at WDW....and we're staying at the Poly!! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

Just beware of the upgrade, after our 03 Poly Concierge trip my family is a little disturbed when they here we will not be staying concierge. My sisters say my DD's are WDW concierge BRAINWASHED. :3dglasses

Yes, Monday through Friday only as it is the USA Today...or at least it was last time we were there.

Over the years it has been the Orlando Sentinel (7 days/wk), USA Today, back to the Sentinel and now USA Today again. :teeth:
