So glad you started this thread!!! We are in less then 2 weeks, it will be our firtst stay at the Poly. Does anyone know if Poly has any Christmas decorations or holiday happenings. We are going down to kick off the Christmas Season and Im thinking maybe I should have booked GF instead? I know people rave about the Poly though. What do you all think? :flower:

First of all, Congratulations! You're going to Disney World!!

I am 99% sure that all deluxes decorate for Christmas/Holidays, including the Poly. I have never stayed, but I have visited it. It's very tropical and romantic. I also love that Walt Disney came up with its concept and had a hand in its design. It's also one of the very first two resorts on the property.

Maybe Tikiman will drop in some time on this thread. . .he's got his own site dedicated to the Poly, its history, the rooms, restaurants, and its evolution. I'll try to find it and post it if you're interested.

Yes, the Polynesian does decorate for the holidays. Check out Tikiman's site and allearsnet for pictures. Christmas music is also played continually around the pools. You'll be singing those songs for months after you leave! :)

The Polynesian is my favorite resort, but their holiday decorations don't do a thing for me. I return in 2 weeks and wouldn't consider staying anywhere else though. You can always walk over to the GF to take in all their traditional holiday decorations, the gingerbread house, etc.

Have a wonderful time at the Poly! There's no place else I'd rather me! :)

Congratulations on your first trip! :earsgirl: :earsboy: You will love the Polynesian. We stayed there in late September and loved it. I had been twice before way back when you could swim in the lagoon.

The grounds are so beautiful and peacful. We stayed in Tahiti, third floor, lagoon view. We loved, loved the location. Fantastic view of the castle, fireworks, water parade and so easy to get to the MK or Epcot. Just a short distance to the TTC. We enjoyed taking the ferry over to the MK.

We started planning a return trip for next year after Thanksgiving. Have a wonderful vacation and be sure to come back to this site and give us a trip report.

Wow, had no idea you could ever swim in the lagoon--I'd heard of the wave machine--how fun would that have been to swim in waves out there :goodvibes

When was the swimming disallowed?

I have no idea. There were many years between visits. I moved out west and started going to Disneyland.

Anybody have an idea when they closed off the lagoon to swimming?

We've been going to the Polynesian since 1983 and the years tend to melt into one another. But my guess is that the signs for no swimming went up 8-10 years ago. The swimming area was even marked by ropes years ago.

Wow! there is a poly FAQ, I'm hoping to stay at the poly for all or at least part of our 21 night stay in 2007, so I'll be watching this thread closely.

Dalpal - I so enjoyed your blog. Pictures are great. If you don't mind me asking what part of the country do you live it. It is breathtaking! The pictures with your horses in the snow....WOW. You seem to be living the life my DH and myself dream about.

Thank you for sharing

Hi everyone,

We are getting married at Sunset Pointe on April 1 and staying at the Polynesian on our Disneymoon! We can't wait...less than 3 months to go!! :cheer2: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

We are back from our 12/27 - 1/3 stay at the Poly. We were in Hawaii room 2530. We had the pool view. We were just a short distance from the concierge lounge. Our room was beautiful. Mousekeeping did a great job. We did not get refills on our coffee on night number two so I called and coffee packets were delivered to our room. It only happened once.

The lounge snacks looked wonderful but I am gluten intolerant I couldn't eat much. My husband said what he tasted was excellent. We did take advantage of the free beverages, pop, wine and yummy Bailey's Irish Cream. The staff was helpful and made our reservations after we arrived. Room service was great and the food at night was excellent. The breakfast from room service was so so quality. I did bring my own breakfast cereal and just used their bowls, spoons and milk.

We did use the Magical Express and it went smoothly. The parks were packed due to the Holidays but we ended up doing most everything we wanted to do but it took two days per park to get it all in. The monorail system is the quikest way to get around. Unforunately we had to take the bus to MGM and to Animal Kingdom. Slow going but at least they get you there.

Weather was better than last year. Nice warm days and nights--well, 50's and 60's for us is considered hot for night time lows. I wish I had my swimsuit packed. It was warm enough for me to go swimming. I love the Poly pools.

Ohana, we didn't care for the menu changes. The food is better the first night than the second time we went. The service was awesome. We did not eat at Kona's this trip. We also did not visit the quickfood place--I can't even remember it's name.

I like where the store was relocated to. They have a good Tommy Bahama collection compared to what I can get here in IA. My favorite T shirt in the entire World area was the Pooh and Tigger shirt: "Tigger is that you?" As Pooh Bear stares into the eyes of a real tiger. Too cute.

We love the Poly. The view from the beach of MK is wonderful and seeing the Wishes fireworks every night was nice. The New Year's Eve celebration was great. The Concierge staff had hats, horns and noise makers. We had free champagne and lots of hors d'oevres. They did a great job.

Maybe I can convince my husband to take us back in one or two years. The crowds were huge but manageable. Next time the suits will be packed just in case the temperatures allow for swimming.

Aloha! Kathy
