Tasha, I had a number of patients (or parents of patients) who received CI while I was working with them. While I am not a personal supporter of them, I encouraged them to get as much info from both sides as possible (and provided some for them if interested, from both view points.) and I supported them in their choices and path. Some had better outcomes then others.

It does sound like CI has worked well for your brother and your family. Good to hear that :thumbsup2 Sadly I have seen some situations that didn't work out as well as your brothers. Of course there are other factors too :sad1: (and some that have. :) )

Once again something we have different experiences with and different view points on, but doesn't mean we can't support each other and see each others side.

Colds and ear infection do seem pretty linked to day care or group interactions. The good news is kids who are sick with things like that often as a baby or todler in day care seem to do a bit better when they are older and get to school then children who were not around other kids often as a baby.

ryan - I'm sorry I didn't respond to you earlier. I've been working on my lesson plans in the event my leave starts earlier than I originally stated. We're working on all kinds of interesting stuff and reviewing grammar. I am far from the authority on the English language, but I tell all of my students they should strive to do the best they can with regards to writing, speaking, spelling, grammar, etc. How can they be taken seriously if those skills are lacking? It doesn't matter if you work in McDonald's or have a doctorate; you need good LA skills.
Anyway, as I ramble on about work, don't bother going back to look for pics of our addition. The only ones you'll find would be when they took off the roof, put the addition on, and framed out the upstairs. I have to clean up our new rooms before I'll take pics and post them. I have storage containers all over the place.

lissawynn- you responded to me earlier, at least I thought you did :scratchin :p I am highly offended though that you put work ahead of me- I'm much more important than a bunch of kids and a paycheck :snooty: JK, sounds like doing great, I was never able to get that far ahead when I was pregnant- both nurseries were finished months after we brought the babies home :rolleyes1

Hey Ryan....
So nice to see you! Jace is still reading his Big Truck Book daily! His favorites are the school bus, mail truck and garbage truck :goodvibes
He loves that book!!

:grouphug: about the loss of your first son. Must have been so difficult.
Just wanted to say hello to you!

and "hey" :flower3: to all the other mom's out there.
:)

I wanted to bf, and did for the first 2 weeks and then my blood pressure skyrocketed. I didnt know you could get pre-eclemsia (spelling ?) after the baby was born. I am taking 3 different kinds of meds which took care of the bf. Faith is doing great on Formula, had to switch to the soy, but doing great.

Just thought I would pop in and say HI! With the marathon training and the 2 little ones, time jsut seems to get away from me!

ryan--good to hear from you again! Sounds like your family had a wonderful christmas!

poohangel--sorry to hear that you had such a scare with the blood pressure. Little Faith is just adorable, glad she's doing great!!

Ryan - Just wanted to say that it's great to hear from you again! Glad to see that Christmas went well at your house. Good idea about the savings bonds instead of toys. Sometimes I wonder if there's a toy out that that isn't in our living room.

Poohangel - Not sure if I said it before, but wow, Faith has grown so much! And she's so adorable!!

My feelings on the bf/ff stuff is that it's important to have an LC who is totally okay with dispensing formula. With Madison she lost a lot of weight because my milk took a very long time to come in. Her ped had us coming in for daily weight checks and told me I could see the LC in the building (unrelated to the ped, just happen to be in the same building). I did and she gave me one of those SNS things and poured formula in it and my 5 day only baby sucked it down and fell asleep. I felt terrible. Until then she had been screaming and sleeping all day and night and it was because I was starving her. My LC was a super nice woman who flat out said that some women just don't make enough milk and I might always have to supplement, etc. To make a long story shorter, I ended up having double mastitis a couple of days later and pumped nonstop to alleviate the pain and solely bottlefed Madison (both formula and pumped milk). I gave up on that SNS after about 2 days and despite being bottle fed the first 2-3 weeks of her life, she easily went back to BF and went on to nurse till 21 months. But without that formula and the LC making me use it I don't know what would have happened cause it would have been a long time before Madison got any BM out of me.

With Henry we had to bottle feed in the beginning for a different reason. He had really bad jaundice that didn't clear up completely till he was over 2 months old. This time my milk came in by the time I left the hospital (3 days) but he just was too sleepy to nurse. The jaundice made him sleepy and not eating anything was making the jaundice worse, so he was sleepier, etc. I actually asked his ped about giving him formula cause I know it's easier to force feed them with a bottle than my breast. She said that was fine but didn't want to suggest it in case I thought it might disrupt his nursing. I didn't care as long as he got his bili levels down cause they were way high. Once we got home I pumped and mostly gave him that in a bottle, but purely for my own comfort cause otherwise I was in a lot of pain. We also almost had to stop the BM for awhile to see if that was causing the jaundice to not go away. Ended up not doing that only cause he was gaining so well that the dr figured he was okay at that point. He's strictly bf now, again without any problem from having a bottle as a newborn.

So my only thing is that a lot of LCs seem to push that if your kid has a bottle or pacifier in the early days then they'll never bf successfully, you won't produce enough if you use formula, etc. And those are things that I find even the most professional people say without realizing the effect it can have on moms. That day that I came home from Madison's 1st weight check I cried for about an hour thinking I failed her as a mom and I wasn't even set on BFing her to begin with. I can only imagine how I would have felt if the LC or ped had said I had to use that SNS with pumped milk cause a bottle would wreck my chances of BFing successfully or anything about formula not being the best. So those biases need to be really neutralized before doing anything like LC because they can definitely show even when you're trying to be as neutral and helpful as possible.

You know, that is so true! The baby was given both in the hospital even though I tried to get them to allow me to BF (she had to be hooked up to too many monitors at first). And they were then somewhat pessimistic about our chances of success. It was very disheartening.

Pooh Angel - I had no idea you could get preclampsia *after* pregnancy! Wow, it just never ends, does it. ;) Faith is so beautiful.

Hello, anyone in here?:tiptoe:

You are all so quiet today!:scratchin Where is everyone?

Well, my first day back at work went fine. Dean cried when I dropped him off, but he was ok after 5 mins.::yes::

Hope everyone is doing ok. We've had the "cough" going on in the house since November!

Please come back mommies!:flower3: :wave2:

After my scare I found out there is another young girl that I work with that her blood pressure did the same and she wont be back to work till March, hers was worse than mine. Thanks she is doing great, beginning to "talk" all the time.
poohangel--sorry to hear that you had such a scare with the blood pressure. Little Faith is just adorable, glad she's doing great!!

She has grown, since starting on cereal she is up to 16.5 pounds, we think she is quite adorable too, thanks :goodvibes
Poohangel - Not sure if I said it before, but wow, Faith has grown so much! And she's so adorable!!

fabumouse, your girls and so cute. I just love the pics in your sig.

Alice28, thanks

justhat, Henry and Madison are so precious.

She's a big girl! My son just started on cereal last week and he seems to be enjoying it so far. He's a big guy too, about 18 lbs. now. If he keeps up this rate of growth I don't know how I'm gonna be able to carry him!

Wow, where has everyone been the last few days? Do I really smell that bad? :faint:

joats- Hi! I'm glad that Jace loves his book so much, it's so funny how they never get sick of things isn't it? What else is he in to these days?

nucpharm- Hi, how's the marathon training going? Isn't having two little ones training enough? :p

justhat- It's great to hear from you too! I can't take credit for the savings bond idea, it was fabumouse's and I stole it :teeth: Henry and Madison look so big now, it's crazy what just a couple of months can do!

Hi to cabmom, phhoahgel, Alice28 and all the other moms :wave2:

I think I may have pink eye in both eyes, does anyone know if I need to go to the doctor or will it clear up on it's own?

Hi Ryan :wave2: It is good to see you too!

Hi Cabmom - I'm glad that your first day back was good!

Sorry to be MIA but school is hitting full force so I'm not sure how much I will be able to DIS. Know that I am thinking of you all.

Hi to all the moms and welcome to the new moms! :wave2:

Hey Ryan. :)

I think if it is real pink eye it won't just go away. It does need treatment in the form of antibiotic eye drops. If it is something else (irritation) then it might.

Here is my question for you. If it was your kid would you wait or call the doctor?

If you would do it for the kids, take the time for yourself. If it is pink eye you don't want to give it to anyone else.

It can be so much easier to take care of our kids then ourselves.

Best of luck. :)

Cab- I'm glad your first day at work went well.

Hi Ryan! I have dealt with pink eye a lot the last few months. You do need the drops or some sort of ointment.

I have to be honest and let you ladies know that a lot is going on right now with my kids, etc and I just need to cut WAY back on the DIS. I think it's just time for me to 'move on' so to speak.

:wave2: You all have been great!

poohangel~ Faith is a cutie! My dd weighed almost 18 lbs by 5 months old. It's hard to believe now since she pretty much stopped gaining much soon after that. She is over 20 months old now and just now has gotten up to 21 lbs. She went from my chubster to my little peanut! Who knows what she will be like in a couple years at this rate?!

Hi, cabmom! Glad your first day back at work went well!

Ryan~ No, you don't smell! You smell absolutely delightful, dahling! ;) It's great to see you posting again! We really have missed you!

Well, my little so-called break is over. Not that it was a break anyway since I had to leave school the other day due to dd being sick. She is doing so much better so it's back to school for me tomorrow. I am sure things are about to get super busy now so I'm sure I won't be posting as much. Have a great week everyone!

ryan--the marathon training is going well. Did 16 miles on Saturday--just under 50 days to go until race day! And, no, unfortunately, chasing after 2 kids doesn't count as training!;)

cabmom--still here--just busy, busy!! DH and I might be starting a new business venture, so we've been meeting with a couple about it.

Ryan - Yes, a few months makes all the difference doesn't it? I have some updated photos of Henry in "Jack's" outfit so I'll have to post them when I get the chance. I can't believe he'll be almost 1-I remember being on the MTB thread with you and now he's already almost a year old!

Oh, and I get pinkeye more than any one person should and I always need antibiotic drops. I wish I lived near you cause we have vials of the stuff from both Madison and myself this summer that I could send your way. One thing if it's not pinkeye, Madison seems to get pinkeye symptoms when she gets a cold so maybe it's that?

Cabmom - Glad your first day back at work went well and that Dean was okay without you. It always makes leaving them so much easier when you know they can have a good time without you.

I'm off to bed, like I was an hour ago but then got stuck on the phone with a friend. We both have infants to wake up with in the morning but neither of us could shut up!
