The Official New Mom Thread Part 2

DisKim, how was TL with Aidan? We were thinking about going to TL for a day, but I wasn't sure it would be worth it with Henry (or Madison for that matter). You're making me want to go back to Ohana now. We tried it for the 1st time last April, right before they changed the menu, and I really liked it. Then we went back in March with the new menu and I wasn't so thrilled, but I was 17 weeks pregnant and still very sick so I think that had a lot to do with it. I'm glad you enjoyed the time you spent with your relatives and your friend.

BnB thanks for the tip on cleaning Henry. When I bathed him last night I asked my husband if I should move that skin back to clean him and he just gave me a look like "don't mess with that area". I said I didn't think that would hurt him but he seemed to think it was like murdering him so I left things alone. Madison thinks it's just so much fun to help bathe him too. But since he HATED his bath I don't think I will be doing them everyday. He screamed like he did during the heel pricks throughout the entire bath and then the drying/dressing process and after everything was done he nursed and slept for almost 4 hours. I guess it was just that traumatizing.

Alice28, you really shouldn't mention Gymbo in front of me right now! I know that I can't spend any more money on clothes cause both kids have enough fall stuff, but I love the newest boy layette stuff so you're really tempting me. The new girl stuff that's coming out today or whenever looks cute too, but I know I can't get Madison anything else.

Tasha, I agree that Pisces are pretty sensitive people so I think you're onto something with the socks. I'm betting that Kylie will be fine-I think you're right about the exposure to new germs. She sounds like she's pretty healthy so I think she'll get over it fast. Though Madison gets colds constantly, she never gets any real illnesses no matter what is going around in her class so I'll deal with the colds.

Thanks for the compliments on the photos. I was skeptical of the angel outfit cause I thought it was a little girly so I'm glad to hear people liked it. I have to take one more with both kids and then I'll put the announcement together. The announcement I'm doing has 3 photos on it-1 large one in the center and then 2 smaller ones on the side. I was going to do all 3 of just him but since he won't ever open his eyes I figured I might as well throw in one of them together. Madison was a much more cooperative subject for her announcement photo.

Madison is going crazy in the shower right now. It's not on, she's just choosing to play in there with her stuffed animals (she got them wet in her water table outside so I threw them in there for lack of a better place). Now she's wrapping them all in towels cause they're cold. 2yos crack me up!

ETA: Welcome to the other side Fabumouse!! Love the photo of Madeleine-she's so precious. Who would have thought that our kids would be born 12 hours apart when they were due at opposite ends of the month? How have things been going since you've brought her home?

:welcome: and congratulations, fabumouse! Madeleine is beautiful - and so is your other DD!

Don't ask me what to do about the belly. I'm still sporting one a year later.

DisKim - Glad you had a good time with your family and your old friend. Can't wait to see the pictures.

floridafam - It's a pretty good list...maybe add what your kids are going to be for Halloween (if you already know).

Hi Mommies,

I did want to post one thing in regards to the exchange.

I and other Moms on this thread and other DISers were scammed about a month ago. Luckily, I caught on before I sent the lady anything but she really took advantage of some of the people on this board-selling coupons that were sent to her on ebay, selling what was sent to her in an exchange on ebay, etc.

I know none of us would do that. She had PM'd me and several other mommies wanting to get in on an exchange and she did take part in several other exchanges on the DIS.

That's why I have been so reluctant to take part in one.

Any suggestions on how we can avoid any type of mess like this? What if someone who does not post on our thread PM's me and wants to take part in the exchange?

I don't want to make anyone feel left out but I want this to go really well.

So, give me your suggestions, etc. I don't want to come off as sounding mean or anything but she really left a sour taste in my mouth.

I also wanted to say a big WELCOME!!! :cheer2:  :sunny: :cool1: to fabumouse. You'll love this thread. :thumbsup2 :cheer2: :yay:

I'll check back later and post what info eveyrone should send me.

I don't know if it's allowed or not, though I can't imagine why it wouldn't be, but maybe we could say that you have to be a poster on this thread to participate in the exchange? Maybe make an exception for people moving over from the moms to be thread if they want to participate, only cause I know there are a good number of babies due in August over there, some of which were born over the last week or so and those moms might be moving over to this thread and want to participate in the exchange. Cause I agree with you that random people who just come over here to participate in the exchange might be weirdos like that poster who just wanted free stuff.

WELCOME FABUMOUSE! Your children are darling. And don't ask me about yeast belly either...I've been sporting one since the birth of my first DS. Almost 9 years ago.

I totally agree with FF. I mean, we're not broadcasting this exchange as a separate thread in the CB, and then saying, "and only these people can participate." I felt kind of well, gypped (sp?) by one or two of our exchanges, because some moms came out of NOWHERE and wanted to do the exchange with us....which was fine, Molly did get a package, but I was so bummed it wasn't from one of our 'regular' moms. The recipe exchange was the first one I did where I actually knew the Mom who sent me the recipes!

Can we just open it to regular posters on our thread, or old-timers who don't get to post as often...or yes, new moms who are moving over from the moms to be thread and were regular posters there.

Mommies,

Let me know who you want included in the exchange (regular posters or anyone) and I will go with the majority. You can also PM me if you want. I know some of us may be nervous about another exchange but I think we can do this one right.

Feel free to PM me if you don't want to post.

Be back later.

Fabumouse - WELCOME and congratulations on the birth of Madeline. Both of your girls are beautiful! I have to ask - what is yeast belly? I've had 3 kids and never heard that term before.

Justhat - The pictures of Henry are gorgeous! Aidan had a ball at TL. I don't know about it for one as young as Henry. I guess if one parent takes Madison around and the other hangs out in the shade with Henry it would be okay. To be honest, I wouldn't bother with it with such young children unless you have "fun" days on your pass that you want to use. Otherwise, it woudn't be worth the money since you wouldn't be able to utilize most of the park.

Floridafam - I think it would be kind of weird for someone to just randomly want to participate. I think the fun of it is sending something to people you have gotten to know on the board. I feel like I know all of the ladies here and their children and I have fun shopping for something I hope they will like. I think shopping for a stranger wouldn't be as fun. Does that make sense?

Well, the pictures are downloaded. We took 510 on the digital camera. That is in addition to the 87 that are on the photopass cd I bought. I think we might have gone a little overboard. I also have 2 disposable cameras with pictures to develop.

OK, I really should get off of this computer.

/
Here are a couple of pictures from the photopass cd. I don't usually look this ugly. I think I look hideous in every one of these pictures.

This is my favorite picture.

Kim! I LOVE the photos! Your family looks so happy....I always look weird in my WDW pics too- it's the heat and humidity I think..but ETA that I think YOU look really good! You look quite trim!

LOVE Aidan out like a light in front of the castle! And the matching shirts are great! More! More!

ETA that I just looked in my throat in the bathroom- hello big patches of white muck on my tonsils. :furious: :sad2: How did my body know that I so totally wanted to go to Urgent Care tonight after DH gets home? Oh well, beats dragging the 3 kids with me tomorrow.

I vote to keep the exchanges private. I think most of us would be more comfortable keeping it amongst ourselves, given what happened recently. There are plenty of exchanges on the exchange board that are open to everyone.

DisKim - I love your pictures! :teeth: I love your matching shirts. Everyone looks like they're having a great time.

Robin - Thanks for the compliment! After eating like a pig for a week, it's nice to hear that I look trim because I certainly don't feel it. I think I look like I could use some time in the Bibbidi Boppity Boutique :teeth: . Don't worry, I'll keep them coming. I have some good ones that we took but I can't find where DH stored them  . I like the one of Aidan sleeping too. Since we knew we were buying the photo cd, we just got pictures taken whenever we could. I was heading to the shops on Main St. when I saw a photographer in front of CP and it just seemed like a great shot.

Well, it's back to reality around here. DH is working tonight and I have to put all the kids to bed. Aidan took a 4 hour nap today. I guess he has some catching up to do.

Hi Everyone! :wave2:

We just got back a few hours ago and I am pooped! I seriously have 10 pages to catch up on here! :teeth:

This trip to Disneyland was fun, but I am glad to be home. John was a dream baby the entire trip and he really seemed to love watching all of the action. I hope he does this well on our trip in December!

Unfortunately, I got food poisoning from the Blue Bayou restaurant (on my husband's birthday no less  ) and was sick as a dog. My dad didn't feel too hot either (we ordered the same meal) but thankfully he didn't get sick. I felt so bad b/c my mom arranged a special dessert seating package to watch Fantasmic and the fireworks and both my mom and I missed it b/c I was so sick. :guilty: Since I was sick, that messed up our schedule a little bit but oh well. I should count my blessings, because this was the first time in about 20 trips to Disney that I have ever been sick so that isn't too bad.

The good news is that I was well enough to visit with my cousins and we had a great time seeing each other. The weather was gorgeous out in California and it looks like we just missed a heat wave by a few days. :sunny: The hotel was wonderful and I loved the convenience of walking from our hotel to Disneyland and CA.

Our flight today was a little scary as some poor man thought he was having a heart attack. :guilty: They almost did an emergency landing (and I thought they should have) but we made it home and the man ended up being ok. Thank goodness. I felt so bad for his little kids as I am sure they were so afraid for their dad.

I better run, but I just wanted to say "Hi!". I hope that everyone is doing well and I will catch up tomorrow. :wave2:

ETA: Robin - I saw the Thomas Kinkade picture in the World of Disney store and I thought of you. It was gorgeous!!!! You need to get it! :thumbsup2

Wow, 3 posts by me in one day! This is a record for me lately!

Floridafam~ See, I think this is a tricky area. When I hosted the Christmas exchange last year I had a couple of posters that really never posted on here just kind of show up wanting to participate. I knew the one (sort of) so I figured she'd be okay but the other one I didn't know at all so I was a bit nervous. Thankfully she did send her package though. She also bad mouthed us and called us a clique afterwards though, even though I feel we were all pretty nice to her and tried to include her but I digress. But anyway, I would prefer to keep it to just this thread's regulars or those switching threads after having their babies but if you tell someone that it is not open to people on the "outside" of this thread then you have a couple of things that could happen: 1. We will be called a clique. I say oh, well! to that though since we have been called a clique several times in the past anyway. 2. They might report this thread and if it violates any rules (I'm not sure if it does or not but since this thread is supposed to be open to anyone it might) they could shut us down. So I guess I will leave that up to you and the majority. I let anyone participate in the Christmas one last year and I will say that I didn't have any problems, even from those who were new and had never really posted here before. So hopefully it won't be an issue.

Oh, and I am fine with an anything goes type exchange. I am also fine with including the older kids and families. I can do a Halloween one for the whole family easier than the Christmas one I think. I also like SL's suggestion of including what our kids are going to be for Halloween. The only thing is, I still don't know what Kylie will be but hopefully by the time the exchange takes place I will!

justhat~ I am with you on the I'd rather deal with a million colds than anything worse!

Welcome fabumouse and baby Madeleine! :)

SL~ I think I am going to really enjoy my major but I think things are about to get really busy too. I am not sure how much longer I will be able to post as regularly as before. I started my 2 online classes this weekend and managed to get 2 weeks worth of assignments done so I'm a little ahead on those but my actual classes that I take on campus (the ones that actually are for my major) are going to keep me pretty busy soon.

DisKim~ I have eaten at all the WDW restaurants (including WCC) you ate at except 50s Primetime. I really liked Ohana too but dh didn't care about it one way or another. I think all of you look great! I can't believe how big Aidan is getting!

Welcome back, Jill! Glad you had a good time but I'm sorry to hear about the food poisoning and the scare on your flight!

Well, I am happy to say I know the info. for my quiz backwards and forwards since I did study earlier. So now I can actually go to bed early. So goodnight!

DisKim = welcome back. I'm glad, I think, that you were thinking of me :rotfl: Some days I have no idea how we managed either!! Leif really couldn't complain unless he was hungry and as he was just starting to crawl, he didn't care if he move around much. On days with the kids like I've been having lately, I have NO IDEA how I managed  Must be that Disney magic. Can't wait to read all about your trip. I need some of that magic next week. I'm driving 530 miles from WI to OH to visit a friend and then to visit my parents. I would be lying if I said I wasn't worried about that trip. And you'd think visiting with my parents would make it easier, yeah, no way. More rules, more complications, should be interesting. popcorn:: I'm sure I'll have stories to share. BTW. LOVe the photos adn the matching shirts! I feel like I was there too :) :cloud9:

jill -welcome back! Sorry about the food poisening, that is horrible.

Robin - I wrote my post below before reading yours, sorry you too have a sore throat. It's not fun. Feel better soon! :wizard:

lissawynn - hope your first day back went well. Glad you got a decent computer.

sl - sounds like a cute costume, can't wait to see pics.

Tasha, I'd give her a decongestant and send her to daycare, unless she's miserable. Good luck, I hope she feels better in the a.m. DS has the same symptoms (sp???) I swear we share germs through the DIS

gm = hope packing and christening plans are going well

J&D - I know I say this all the time, but your organizational skills astound me! Your exchange plan sounds great.

bnb - it could be because I was starving, but Pizza Planet was yummy at MGM and the kids really liked it (if you were interested in counter service). Thanks so much for sending some stuff, honestly, I'd be happy to pay, just pm me and let me know! You are really hopping on the organizing things, wow. I usually say it and then wait a few weeks before actually beginning.

gem - I like Robin's idea, but whatever way works for me. Oh, just read your post, for the little ones could work too. I'll probably still stick a lollipop or something for the older kids though. . .

ff - fall exchange sounds like fun too!

fabumouse, welcome!

justhat, thanks for the nursing scoop. I did feel a little odd nursing Leif at the Y today, lucky for me that he only has two teeth (though twomore are coming in) so he might look younger than he is, how's that for self concious? Crazy, anyway, thanks for the info! LOVE the pics! Henry's bili levels doing better?

Ladies, anyone know anything about sore throats? I have one, for several days, and I hardly ever, if ever get them. If I do it's for maybe 24 hours. It seems to be getting worse daily and now there are white blisters on the side of my throat, not the back (sorry if tmi). Should I go to the walk-in? The thought of dragging three kids to wait in a clinic is rather unappealing, but we are to go out of town on Friday, so I want/need to feel better by then.

Hi all,
Wow, I go back to work and you ladies leave me three pages behind ;) !

I'm up for both exchanges. I will send my pm's out tomorrow :) . That's strange that random people signed up for the exchanges :confused3 . I didn't realize because both of the ones I participated in I gave and rec'd to regulars on our thread.

Jill,
Welcome home! I'm glad the trip was good sorry about the food poisoning though.

Diskim,
Welcome home to you too! I think your pictures are great :thumbsup2 . How much was the photopass?

Justhat,
I love the new pics of Henry! He is such a beautiful baby.

Robin,
Hope you feel better soon. Sure sounds like you have strep again. I was just browsing Gymboree.com yesterday and wondering when the next Gymbucks earning started. Thanks for the info.

Welcome fabmouse! Congrats on your birth!

SL,
I just got Katrina a Minnie Mouse costume from Disney shopping. I'm sure Lucas will make a very handsome Mickey :) .

Hi to Nucpharm, GM, GLT, Hillbeans, Tasha, FF, Gems, and all the other moms  .

My first day at work went very well. The only thing was that I got a horrible migraine from wearing my hair back in a ponytail. I'm going to wear it lower tomorrow and see if that helps. Everyone was super nice and it was a lot of fun :) . My main job in the morning is making the cold salads like the tuna, chicken, egg, fruit, seafood, etc. . Other girls do the cooked salads, the deli meats, and the baking. IMO, I got the easiest task. Then everyone pitches in and makes sandwiches and wraps at lunch time since it gets super busy. The store sells at least 40 different types of wraps, grilled sandwiches, and reg. sandwiches as well as chili, soups, and salads. It's a really neat place. They don't make any of the fudge or candy on premises. It's all imported. They do make all the brownies (which are to die for!), cookies, and other bakes goods along with the breads.

My best friend from high school came over later this afternoon and we had a blast talking until almost 10 o'clock tonight.

I hope everyone has a good night  . TTYL

DisKim and Jill- Welcome home!

Welcome, fabumouse!

GLT- Thanks for the compliment. Has the book arrived yet?

Gems & floridafam- I will PM you the list of matches from the previous exchanges.

Sorry if people were disappointed in who they had for their exchange buddy in previous exchanges. The names were assigned randomly. There were a few people that participated in the exchanges who weren't "frequent" posters to this thread like most of us, but they did post occasionally during the time of the exchanges, so I wasn't going to exclude them. Meriweather keeps a list of people who don't follow through on exchanges, so if there is any doubt about a person you can contact her to see if their name is on her list.

GLT,
I just saw your post. I think you probably need an antibiotic for your throat. The last time I had the white junk on my tonsils it wasn't strep but still an infection and needed to be treated. I'd go tomorrow so you can feel better for your trip :wizard: .

Tasha - I forgot to reply to your earlier post about Kylie's runny nose. Every daycare provider I know of only requires that you keep your child home in the case of fever and/or vomiting. If Kylie just has a runny nose, she'll be fine. Many kids get them from allergies. As far as the exchange goes, I think it would be just ridiculous if they shut our thread for wanting to keep it to regulars. Besides, we've never had a problem with our past exchanges.

Jill - Welcome back! I'm sorry to hear you got sick. How awful! How was John on the flight. I've done the flight to CA with babies and it was no picnic. Aidan was awful on a 2 hour flight. There's no way I'll go on a plane with him again for a long time. How scary about that man thinking he was having a heart attack.

GLT - Good luck with the drive. I think Emmy and Alex were more difficult on our trip than Aidan. At one point, I actually got so exasperated with them that I explained to them how many children I had seen in the parks with disabilities and they had nerve to complain about their silly little problems. That shut them up for a while. I came to realize that my kids are spoiled while I was on this trip. I never thought they were because they don't whine in stores for material things. They just didn't seem to have empathy for me or DH. If things didn't go their way, they drove us nuts.

Well, I decided against buying into DVC. It's just not the right time. I feel like I wasted 2 hours of my trip. It just seems like a ridiculous amount of money to pay and then I still have to buy transportation, food and tickets. I think it would be a better value if I could go in the off season but it doesn't work for a teacher. I might just try renting points.

OK, I need help from those of you who scrapbook. I've never tried it in my life and I have no creativity whatsoever. I bought a WDW scrapbook because I liked it. It is made of wood and has an opening for a picture in the front. Do any of you have any advice for a scrapbooking newbie. I bought some of the paper and stuff. Do you glue the pretty paper to the ugly black paper that is already in the book? What kind of glue do you use. I'm pathetic with this stuff.

ETA - Val - The photo cd was $106 with tax. I used my visa rewards so I got it for free. That was my plan the whole time so we got lots of pictures taken by the photographers. The only bad part is the ride photos are not hooked into the system yet so I bought a couple of those separately. I just had to have Emmy and Alex's faces on their first time riding Rockin Roller Coaster.

Jill - Welcome Back! I am SO SORRY you got food poisoning, and at Blue Bayou of all places. Kind of a bummer, since it's the most expensive place to eat at DL, and then you get sick! Ugh! Glad John was an angel- cross country trips are definitely a challenge!

I want to see some pics! And I did order the print off ebay- I just need to frame it myself. :teeth:

Kim- I enjoy scrapbooking. Yes, you can layer the pretty paper on top of the black paper, or do what we scrappers call 'matting' where you don't use the whole piece of pretty paper, but matt your photos on it. You need to buy an acid free/lignin free glue stick or adhesive- they are in any store's craft section, like Target or Wal Mart. Have fun with it! I find it addicting, although I haven't touched my stuff in a month.

GLT- strep usually comes on quickly; usually involves a fever (found out I have had one most of the afternoon/evening of 101- funny how us moms can just ignore that), and white patches in the back of your throat and tonsils. It hurts quite badly- it doesn't hurt when I am just sitting here, but when I swallow, it's like swallowing rocks or something. Oh, and I tested positive for it- got my penicillian and came home. 90 minutes at Urgent care, not horrible I guess. At least I was by myself and not with 3 children in tow. Strep does not usually come with cold symptoms either. I would definitely try and get it checked out if you are not feeling better tomorrow- esp as you are going out of town, and strep is nothing you want to put off getting antibiotics for. :grouphug: :grouphug:

Val- I'm so glad your first day of work went well. I love all those 'salad' kind of sandwiches. Yum, yum.

OK, I am going to go take a warm bath and go to bed. DH put Molly to bed at 7:20...she better sleep until at least 7 tomorrow! (she usually goes down between 8-8:30).

Welcome back jill :cheer2:

Tasha,

I'm sorry Kylie doesn't feel well. I would also send her if she just has a runny nose.

DisKim,

Welcome Home. The pictures are great.

GLT,

I would get your throat checked out.

val,

Glad the job went well today.

I don't have a lot of time to post. We had to go on a late night odyssey. DH was out cycling (the only time he has lately to bike is at night) and he got a flat. He used 2 air thingies to try and make it back to his truck but he didn't get near it. So, I had to get all the kids out of bed and go get him. We drove past him and had to turn around and look for him until we found him. He had to leave his bike hidden in the bushes while I took him back to his truck and then go back and get his bike. I'm glad nobody was watching us, they could have taken a pretty nice bike out of the bushes for free.

I was low on gas because I ONLY put $40.00 in the day before yesterday and that doesn't go very far these days.

UGH! :furious: :rolleyes1 :guilty: :rotfl:
