The Official New Mom Thread Part 2

Okay, so a here's a serious drive by this morning, as I'm babysitting this morning for a friend, and then my mom is taking the kids this afternoon, so I can head over to Walgreens to make some $$$

Anyway, a question for my WDW mommy friends--DH and I realize last night, that MAYBE we might want to make ADRs for the busiest week of the year--Ya think??? So, we're not doing much as we'll only be there for 1/2 week, and we'll do counter service most of the time--so we're looking at doing Chef Mickeys for breakfast (a tradition) and ONE sit down dinner. If ya'll had a choice of one restaurant in the world, which one would you choose--we went to Le cellier last trip, and I think DH wants something different, even though that's his fav. Love to hear what ya'll come up with!

SL--good luck with the raise!

Jill--hope you got your paper done!

Okay, Mr. Stinky Poopy Pants needs changed--will chat later!

Drive by post this morning -

Z - :grouphug: I'm so sorry to hear about what you are going through with your father. I hope that you and your sisters are able to all work something out and get your father into some kind of care facility. Maybe this will bring all of you back together again before the holidays. Please keep us updated on how your father is doing.

Ginamarie - Did you see the new virtual "Shea Stadium" they are building for the Mets? It's awesome, and should be completed in 2009. I saw it on Ch. 7 news this morning. I think it'll be called Citipark or something?

Is Justine back yet??

More tonight! Have a great day ladies!

Just a quickie b/c my students are due to arrive in less than 3 minutes. We got some water in the house last night. The back isn't closed in yet, so we had a little water in what used to be our bedroom and our garage. Not such a big deal.

I managed to get a ton of laundry done yesterday. Tonight I need DH to sit with Jimmy so I can put it all away (our bedroom furniture is in the garage).

I have finished my shopping for Jimmy, both of my sisters, my dad's wife, and all of DH's nieces and nephews. I still need to get something for my BIL. My sister and I have to get gift cards for our mom and then try to figure out what we're getting our dad. DH wants waders to fish and he's also getting some new Carhartt stuff for work. I don't think we're going nuts this year since the cost of the house is draining 1/2 of our savings.

I hope you're all having a good day! TTYL!

Loretta- I just wanted you to know I am thinking of you, your dad & your family this morning. I am praying your dad went to the hospital without too much of an argument. :grouphug:

nuc- I'm thinking of what might be a good restaurant. Some of my favorites are Whispering Canyon (always a good one with the kids cause of the action, and my kids love the food), Chefs de France for the atmosphere and tasty food (but I don't know if your kids would like it- so far I have only been there with just my mom), Kona Cafe for the YUMMY food, and I thought Crystal Palace had a great selection of good dinner food, and of course Winnie the Pooh characters.

GM- It's hard with siblings sometimes, isn't it? I don't blame my MIL or begrudge my BIL for the help he needs; he is learning disabled. Just sometimes it's hard, esp if we are struggling with finances one month, and yet DH works his tail off making money.

Alisa- yay getting the shopping almost done! Glad the water damage wasn't too bad.

SL- hope you get that raise! You deserve it!

Jill- hope you have a good day today in the classrooms and that John is agreeable!

I haven't heard from Justine yet- hope she posts soon to let us know how the trip was!

GLT- that's funny that Leif loved the Wiggles too- Molly marched right up to the TV this morning, turned it on and then looked at me to turn the DVD on. I did and she started laughing like a maniac- she knew what was coming!

Oh, and I keep meaning to post that count Molly in as a food thrower. The second she is done eating, she furiously starts shoving all the leftover food onto the floor. I have to watch her closely so I don't have a huge mess to clean up. Frustrating, but I know it's just a phase.

Well, on today's agenda is vacuuming and mopping. And cleaning the bathrooms. I had a headache I couldn't shake yesterday, until DH gave me a shot earlier this morning. I'm just kind of vegging right now, letting it take effect. Then I will start on the daily grind. I hadn't had a migraine in almost 2 months, so I am glad the preventative medicine I have been taking seems to work pretty well.

There is a .03 click at Sunshine and a new Blockbuster offer for a $25 Disney GC.

Loretta- We are thinking about you today. Hope things went as well as could be expected. :grouphug:

Jill- Yes, I plan on going to the 2008 meet. You are lucky that you don't have to conduct a real study. The one I did for my MEd was a big pain. Getting through the review board took forever. Since I conducted my study on HS kids, they were picky about everything. I can't remember how many times I had to revise the parent consent forms.

SL- Good luck with your raise request. You deserve one for working so hard and sticking with the company after so many jumped ship. :wizard:

Robin- I hate doing the bathrooms. Have fun. ;)

Just a quickie here - must go pick up Kailey and the playdate in a few minutes. I upset DH last night complaining about his dad. I feel terrible - I'm not trying to alienate anyone, I'm just really struggling with the idea that we just have to accept that he's never going to change and live with some of his more annoying behavior without saying anything. Is this the way it is with most parents?

Sorry about that headache Robin! A good friend of mine lives with migraines and has been really struggling. She doesn't like the preventive meds her doctor suggested, I don't remember why - something about the side effects.

Nuc - top of my list right now are the ones at Animal Kingdom lodge - Boma and the other one. We haven't been to either, but we've heard so many rave reviews that I'm hoping me make it there on our next trip.

SL - good for you for making the request! I always find it difficult to negotiate for more money because it's so personal ("sorry, having *you* around just isn't worth another 50 cents an hour")

Lissa - good job on the shopping! I think I'll be done with all the buying by Thanksgiving - I need to go back to Costco for a few things. I bought Madeleine some toys and finally had to put them way because Kailey wouldn't leave them alone. I mean, Kailey's room and a play area are so full of stuff that you can barely move in them, but oooooh, look, baby toys!

Have a great day everyone! I'll do better on my next drive through.

My package 'went postal' this AM. I kept forgetting to mail my MIL this sack of stuff she left here a few weeks ago, so I figured I might as well mail my buddy her gift while I was at the PO.

Fab- Oh, I so want to go to the AKL this trip, just to see it! It's the only deluxe I haven't laid my eyes on. I said something about it to DH this weekend, and he was in a farty mood- he said something like, "Yeah, like the kids will let us..." I said, "What are you talking about?" He said, "Well, we can't seem to do anything we want to do when we have all 3 of them." I said, "Oh brother, we aren't talking about leisurely having cocktails there for 2 hours- I'm talking about driving the minivan over there, getting out, walking in the hotel, look at the lobby, look at the animals on the savannah, look at Jiko and Boma's menus, and leave. Gimme a break." He was just in the jerkish mood on and off yesterday- I'm not sure what the problem was.

I'm sorry you and your DH got into it over your FIL- sometimes the topic of inlaws is quite tricky. For the most part I get along with his mother (I always got along with his dad, when he was alive), and he gets along with my parents, but yet there's small things he doesn't like about my parents, that I take offense at....and sometime he gets defensive about his mother, even though a lot of the time he thinks she's a dingaling.

J&D- I'm SO BUMMED I did the Blockbuster offer a couple months ago...the offer Tricia has right now is so great! Oh well, I hope lots of DISers can get the $25 gift card offer. I got the .03 click, thanks! I am up to almost $150 now with her site since we booked this March trip. I hope to get to $250-300. Some of the trial offers she has going are too good to pass up, with minimal output (if any) money on my end. I mean, $300 would be 1/3 of our food budget for the entire trip- I would be tickled pink to get that for almost free! :cloud9:

Well, the upstairs is cleaned except for a quick mop of the bathroom floor. Now for the downstairs. Which is mostly tidied, just need to mop all the Pergo. Oh boy, Molly just came in from the porch (playing with kitties) straight to the TV. She's becoming a Wiggles addict!

Hi ladies! I don't know if Aidan will let me catch up today. I really hate going back to work after a 4-day weekend. I missed Aidan so much today! He was just so good yesterday and I enjoyed him so much that it hurt me to drop him off. I got my grades done and I was just disgusted by them. My honors kids did well but the college prep kids did terrible. I had 7 failures and only 4 A's out of almost 60 kids. That's pretty bad. It is all because they don't do any work. I gave both classes a lecture today, so hopefully I'll see them turn around.

I'm so bummed. Hardly anyone is coming to my house for Thanksgiving this year. Everyone seems to be going to other places and then coming here for dessert since we are celebrating Emmy's birthday. It really makes me sad that all of my family has moved away. The only family member I'll have coming is my mother. I think DH's brother and sister are coming and his parents. That's it! This is why I wanted to have several children. I always wished I had at least one more sibling for support. I've got a brother who lives on the other side of the country and that's it. It's so sad. I really hope that my kids are always close to one another. Hopefully, my house will be busting out the seams with kids and grandkids some day.

Well, I'm sorry for making this post "all about me" today but Aidan is getting squirmy. I'll try to get back later!

Hi all! I have a few minutes while DH throws together dinner--hot dogs tonight, in case anyone was thinking of being jealous! Luke's sleeping through the night was a one-shot deal, which I suspected, but he seems to need me less and less at night, so that's a help.

Robin--I hope your migraine goes away quickly. How awful! That's great about you and DH deciding on DVC--The Timeshare Store always has listings for every resort, you just have to decide on your needs, then wait for the right contract to come up. You can even call them and say what you want, they'll contact you when it becomes available. And if VWL is where you want to be, that's where you should buy. That's how I felt about Beach Club--it was where I "pictured" myself. And aren't DH's funny--when I first mentioned DVC, I thought he'd think I was nuts. I presented the info and walked away--that's what I have to do with him, let him reach his own conclusion. I expected it to take time, and at least one "devil's advocate" session. But the next day, he goes, "I'm in!" He (rightfully) pointed out that it's not a financial investment, it's a vacation investment. So, when your migraine goes away, you can hit the sites and boards and gather all the information you can.

And BTW, I love looking at AKL--it's beautiful. You might want to consider going to Boma, which we had gone to in 1/2002, and Jocelyn and Robert BOTH requested again this past trip--4 years later! The food is good, not all exotic, and you can't beat the setting. It would be a great excuse to check out the resort. I'm definitely looking forward to one day staying at DVC there--maybe even just me and DH! There's a pipe dream for you!

Kim--That's too bad about your students being so unmotivated. Maybe they should issue you a cattle prod? Put the fear of God in them. yeah, that'll get them to love literature! Seriously, though, I love books, and it depresses me when I hear about kids who don't--they miss out on so much.

Nucpharm--A couple of my votes would be Boma (LOVE AKL, like I said above), possibly 1900 Park Fare. Our family also enjoys Biergarten, Teppanyaki, and Mama Melrose's.

Jill--That's great that soccer is over, finally, and that your girls did so well. I just have to get through the play this weekend... But, it's so great to see the kids improve each year. we can commiserate again in the spring--Celeste will be starting.

SL--Good luck with the raise request.

Gina--Parents are so funny about the kids and money. I don't know if you ever read the "Millionaire" books, but they talk a lot about parental assistance and how it's so wrong. I mean the constant assistance, not the one-shot deals, like if someone lost a job or was buying a house. They call it weakening the weak, and if your child were puny and sickly, you would work hard to get them healthy food and fresh air, but when they struggle due to poor financial decisions, a lot of parents make it easy to continue to make poor decisions. Anyway, they were much more eloquent than I am, and I think about those books a lot when dealing with my BIL sitting in his free house.

I have to run, someone's fussy. "Hi" to everyone I missed.

My exchange buddy's gift is on it's way!! I dropped it off this am before the MD.

Well, not much to report - MD thinks it's something I am injesting rather than a detergent/soap allergy due to the blotchiness on my face. It could be anything!! She said even stuff that I've been eating/drinking for years could be it as makers of products sometimes just change ingredients. I think it is something I'm taking in as when I had the stomach flu a few weeks ago and didn't eat anything for days after Pukefest 2006 my face looked all cleared up. So, now I have to try and figure it out. Thanks for everyone's concern. I'm so frustrated by the whole thing.

I too have a food thrower and it makes me nuts!! When Jace is done he scrambles all the food on his tray back and forth and then starts putting stuff over the side of the tray.

Lissawyn: You are a super shopper!! Good for you.
Zalansky: I hope you will post how everything went today.
GLT: I bought some of the mickey fridge magnet note pads at Target too.
SL: What happened with the raise request?

Oh crap, I gotta cut this short to help DH. I'll try to get back on tonight if I can.

Good evening everyone!

About my FIL - since I cut my family out of our lives like 15 years ago (they would count as one of those "toxic" families discussed earlier), the whole family thing is one-sided. So it's a weird dynamic - he never has to (or gets to) complain about my family. DH and I mostly agree about his mom - she's great most of the time although likes to wear rose colored glasses at the oddest times.

Val - I'm sorry about your mom's attitude - hope the holidays go reasonably well this time around.

My bad news of the day - Dh is leaving on Sunday morning *again*, this time for Vienna. Phhhhht. I tell you gals, I'm going to either be thrilled when he gets his promotion next month or PO'd like y'all would not believe over the sacrifices that have been made on our side.

Joats - glad to hear you went to the doctor. Kailey also has all kinds of skin issues that I think are related to food but they're vague as well - good luck in determing the source.

BnB - I totally agree with you on the love of books. We have books and magazines all over the house and I'm always in the middle of about 10 of them. It really pained me this summer that one of Kailey's teenage counselors was really upset that she had to read THREE WHOLE BOOKS over the summer. What are the Millionaire books?

Kim - sorry about Thanksgiving. We probably won't be doing anything at all this year.

Robin - isn't it wierd how these men just get into these *moods*? You'd think *they* were battling hormones on a regular basis. :teeth: Dh was in a great mood this weekend even though I ran him ragged - but some weekends he's badgering me about "how MANY times do we need to go to Disneyworld? or some other such nonsense. Honestly, I don't understand a word he's saying. :lmao:

Ginamarie - your sibling sounds like my SIL. She recently "borrowed" a rebate check that belonged to my IL's because she bounced all these checks. When I asked - how is she going to pay you back if she doesn't ever have any money left at the end of the month?? All I got were blank stares and "she *better* pay us back". Or WHAT? You'll give her even more money?

And I don't know anyone who is planning on having babies. I have a pregnancy library of about 10 books that I would love to donate to someone instead of dumping them off at a book sale, but everyone around me seems to be done with morning sickness and leg cramps. ;)

GLT - I love those "video days" during the winter! I try to keep them to a minimum, but I do enjoy breaking out the popcorn and my favorites.

Speaking of which - is anyone else having a rough time with Netflix these days? They used to be so quick and now it takes *forever* to get my videos. :confused3

:moped:

Just checking in to see if Loretta had posted- hope everything worked out OK Loretta! We're here for you! :grouphug:

BNB- we are also having a magical dinner that includes hot dogs. We bought some Nathan's brand little smokie type sausages at Costco the other day, and I sliced up biscuit dough and did some rollups. I'm such a gourmet. I need to cut up some veggies and apples and we're calling it dinner. :teeth:

Joats- How in the heck are you going to figure it out? I guess just eat very minimal foods one day, and add a new food every other day? Ugh. Oh, and how you described Jace, is how Molly does her food throwing too- furious mad scramble of the food left on her tray back and forth, and then the throwing commencing with whatever didn't get flung to the ground with the scrambling.

Kim- hope your students get a bit more motivated when they see their grades! I too hope that by having 3 kids that there will always be family of some sort nearby when I am old. I'm all my parents have- and they're pretty much all I have. I kind of put aside some 'toxic' cousins I have- I used to be very close to one of them, but just got sick of being treated like 2nd class a lot of the time by her, so I laid it on the line 5 years ago- she wasn't happy that someone actually said to her, "You're kind of a bi*ch and I'm sick of it" and she and I aren't really friends anymore. Oh well. I miss the laughs we used to have together, but I don't miss that mouth filled with negativity 90% of the time.

Fab- read above for my toxic family synopsis. ;) I guess there are some in all of our lives.

I think the Millionaire books includes the one called "How to be the Millionaire Next Door" or something to that effect. I know my inlaws have at least one of those books. Must have worked, cause they're millionaires! :rotfl2: My FIL was a very wise investor, and they bought 3 properties in San Jose in the 70s. That was a very smart move!

OK, must feed hungry children.

OH- FYI- if you like to drink Coke products, go to www.target.com and go to the super target coupons; there is a $1 off Coke 12 pack coupon on there, and they already have Coke on sale for $2.50 a 12 pack. $1.50 for a 12 pack is an amazing deal! I printed off 4 coupons and am going tomorrow or Weds to stock up on soda!

BNB - I love the cattle prod idea! Seriously though, you're right. The future of America is very dismal when kids just don't read. They don't get that they are going to have to know HOW to read critically no matter what they plan on majoring in. The scary part is we are reading Night right now which is very short. Our next novel ought to be a real trip with over 200 pages. They'll die.

Fab - I guess I should consider myself lucky that I have family coming at all. I just like it when my house is crazy on a holiday. I like cooking for large crowds. I inherited that from my grandmother. I need to feed people.

Robin - Thanks for the heads up on the soda. I'll definitely be at Target this week. I need to go there to see if they got the Cranium Mega Fort in stock for Alex anyway. They, of course, were out of it on the weekend. I hate how Target never has what is in the circular.

Well, I just paid the bills and I still have to iron. I better go.

Nucpharm- I’m horrible about picking just ONE restaurant since we love so many of them.

Hillbeans- I’ve seen the plans for the new Shea Stadium. It looks pretty cool. We saw where they’re building it (in the parking area between Shea and the tennis arena where they do the US Open). We really need a new stadium!

Alice- I know what you mean. I love my brother very much, and recognize that he has problems. I just want what’s best for him, and I recognize that my parents bailing him out all the time hasn’t been the best decision. They love him too though and they don’t want to see him in any trouble. It IS hard though.
I would go to AKL! We’ve made it a tradition to go to Boma for breakfast on each trip. The kids actually like it there because of all the animals in the back of the hotel.
Thanks for the heads up on the Coke coupon!

BNB- Hey, there’s nothing wrong with hot dogs!

Joats- Sorry your doctor wasn’t much help about the itching.

Fabs- Sorry you’re losing your DH to Vienna! Yeah, we were the first ones of all our friends and family to get married and the first to start a family. DH had his sister and two cousins all get married within a year of each other (between last May and this past May) and I think they’re all ttc now. My best friend and my brother both are getting married next fall (a month apart) and they both want to ttc in 2008.

It’s been a busy day. Olivia and I stopped at the mall because I had to exchange the clothes DSIL just picked up for her. She bought 6-9 months, but Livvie’s almost outgrown all of her 6-9 month clothes already! So we traded in those clothes for a couple of really cute jumpers and I still had a $10 store credit left over. Woohoo! The mall by us is actually really nice. I can’t believe it’s the first time we’ve been there since I moved in here and it’s only a half a mile down the road. There’s a decent sized Gymbo, which we stopped in, but I just couldn’t bring myself to spent the $$ they wanted for that Peruvian Doll set. It’s sooooo cute though.

I met my dad and DBro at Friendly’s for lunch. It was pretty funny, because I think the people there thought we were a family where I was my dad’s second (or third) wife with two young kids. After mom got back from the dentist, I left the kids with her and went to the office, and then we helped my brother move some boxes from his apartment to their new house. I’m so glad they’re right down the road – it was only a 60 second car ride from their house to mine for the evening.

OK, time to read some paperwork for my mediation tomorrow.

Okay Ladies. It's another question from the Grandma-to-be.... :goodvibes

Any suggestions/tips on doing on-line birth announcements?
("back-in-the-day" -21 yrs ago)....of course, there was no computerization,
so I bought card stock....typed in what I wanted to say (it was same language from my wedding invitation and just added ..."and a new love of the birth of our child"......(wedding) We have experienced love...in our parents, our families and friends , and now a new love in each other, with sincere joy and desire to give this love its fullest expression, we are being joined in marriage...bla bla bla>>>>> and I just added for birth announcement for daughter: ....parents, our familes, friends, and together and now the birth of our daughter....bla bla bla
I typed up EACH one in advance and then added the specifics as I was recovering in hospital (back then we had like a three day stay)....and mailed them all out before I arrived home. ha ha

Any good websites? We want to get a good photo shot and then order on-line....Any good poses? (favorites among some of you)....like I said, websites?

Would it be odd if the announcements were sent out after child was a month old? ..............thanks for your suggestions, opinions, etc.

Morning everyone!

Hermosa - I would say that it's very appropriate to send birth announcements a month after the baby is born - in fact, many sites I visited when making my own announcements suggested 3 months.

With that said - two things I would keep in mind - people are very impatient these days for news and may end up calling the family incessantly until they get all the news over the phone or the computer anyhow, and at 1 month, babies tend to get baby zits and they're often not very pretty. You may want to do the photo in black and white.

I used Storkgrams.com

Good luck!

Morning! I gave my boss the letter yesterday. She thought it was my resignation. Maybe she'll be so relieved I'm staying that she'll give me what I want. :thumbsup2

I'm off today and working on Thursday because my mom had a few dr appointments. I hope to get to Target this afternoon to get the last of my exchange stuff and can mail it tomorrow, right at the deadline!

We lost power last night at around 10pm until 12:45am. Luckily I didn't have to work today because I slept right through the night and didn't wake up to re set my alarm clock. I need to buy some batteries. The power also went out this morning for a few minutes. I have no idea what's going on. The whole street was out. We also have a little water in the basement since it was raining last night and the sump pump needs electricity. Ugh.

nucpharm - I would suggest 'Ohana for dinner. It was hands down our favorite meal of the entire trip.

lissawynn - Sorry you got some water in your house. I hope nothing got damaged.

Alice28 - Molly sounds like a TV-aholic just like Lucas. :happytv: He knows there are several buttons on our remote to turn it on so he'll physically put the remote in my hand to get me to turn it on. I can take a hint. :lmao:

fabumouse - Sorry you and your DH got into it about your FIL.

DisKim - Sometimes I'm envious of smaller families. I have a million aunts and uncles (on DH's side, too) and every holiday is a production. One of my snootier aunts even cancelled Christmas at her house this year because of the "kids". That would be Lucas and my nephews. Gee, thanks. That makes us feel loved. Her house isn't even all that great.

joats - That sounds like what Lucas had. Luckily for us, he doesn't eat more that 3 different types of food so it was easy to figure out it was the citrus making him blotchy. I hope you figure out what's making you itch.

fabumouse - Sorry your DH will be off on another business trip. He sure travels around the globe!

ginamarie - I've never been mistaken for my dad's wife or gf. That would be hilarious. I know people think Lucas is my mom's son sometimes because she brings him on errands all the time.

J&D - Thanks for the clippers link!

hermosa - Good luck with the announcements. I don't think it's too late. I made my own so I can't help with websites, sorry!

I should go before we lose power again. I hope I can check in later!

Another fly-by post here...
I have pics to post of the inside of our addition. DH was kind enough to take the pics last night. I'm just not thrilled about climbing up and down the ladder. The walls are framed out for the bedrooms, bathroom, and our HUGE closet. Ok, maybe not HUGE like Oprah's closet, but I think a 10x12 closet is great considering what I used to have.

Alice - Thanks for the hint on the Target coupons. I'll going to print some for this weekend.

SL - I hope your boss can meet your "demands".

GM - Sounds as if you had a productive shopping day.

joats - I hope you can figure out what's causing your rash.

I have to go. New class in less than 2 minutes...

Hi moms......

Thanks you all for your well wishes, thoughts and support.

I wanted to post a quick update - after some initial resistance from my father, he agreed to go to the hospital yesterday after lunch. We took him in through the ER and after many long hours waiting, he was examined by a gastro specialist who found a significant growth and blockage in his rectum. Hence the bathroom issues. Naturally we all knew what the growth was. Then a urologist saw him and determined the tumor had grown to his bladder and that was what was causing the urination issues. The urologist said he could tell with certainty it is malignant. He was being sent for an MRI body scan and biopsy late last night to see if it has spread and to confirm it is malignant. I expected this as most of you know but hearing it is gut wrenching. And hearing whatever we hear today will be worse, I am sure.

Thank goodness my FIL has been willing & able to watch the kids so I can be there because if I couldn't I would not be able to bear it. Its hard enough that my sisters are all together 24/7 and I am home here some of the time and trying to hold things together in front of my kids.

So thank you again for your support and kind words. You ladies are special and it means alot to me.
