The Official LOST Season Five *No Spoilers* Thread

Okay, I'm trying very hard to keep up:
1)Why do we think Ben killed Penny? Obviously he took quite a beating in whatever struggle it was.
2) Who is that other guy on the flight that said his condolences to Jack regarding the body (of Locke) at the airport? Sorry if this has already been addressed.

This show is fantastic and makes my head spin. I too have decided to stay away from the spoilers this season - makes it so much more interesting!

We think that Ben got into a struggle with Desmond and/or Penny because he told Whidmore that he was going to kill his daughter because he had killed Ben's daughter (through Keamy). When he called jack he was at the boat docks. I personally am hoping that they are not dead but that he just fought with them. But who knows.

I don't know for sure who that guy was but he looked like one of the people on the canoe that was shooting arrows at the losties when they were time jumping. Also I think that someone else offered their condolences before he got on flight 815 though i can't remember who it was. Anyone else have more info on this?

I just saw this somewhere and can't remember!!!! I'm pretty sure it was one of the "stars" of the show that we see all the time.

OK, something else - when Locke got off the island, I'm assuming that the time jumping stopped, so whatever time it was in at that time would be the time that all the losties are stuck in on the island, right? That could explain Jin showing up in the Dharma jumpsuit driving the van that Hurley and Charlie found. So if that's the case, did the O6 come back into that time? Also, if the van is new and running, it could be what? Late 60's, early 70's? So are we gonna be stuck with the "young" Ben there? And if so, does the current Ben make it back, too?

Unfortunately, I think we're gonna have to wait a couple of weeks for this to get explained.

And I totally agree that Kate is pregnant. I think that would make her the Claire of 815. So really Sun and Jack are the only two that are returning to the island in their original roles?

Locke = Christian
Hurley = Charlie
Sayid = Kate
Kate = Claire
Jack = Jack
Sun = Sun
Ben = Hurley (getting to the gate at the last minute....)

I don't believe that she did survive the bombing of her house. I believe that, after that point, she was a representation of Claire...probably another of the smoke monster's guises.

I thought that too! Especially the way Miles was looking at her, as if he knew she was dead.

I completely agree with both of these.....I've been telling my family since last season that Claire died when her house was bombed. But they don't agree.

and Claire just didn't seen "right" when Locke saw her and Christian together in Jacob's cabin, like she was drugged or something, you know?

I subscribe to the About.com Lost updates, and there were a couple of interesting things about this week's episode:

316 Theories
I think that certain people must have known that Oceanic Flight 815 was going to fly through the island window and these people made sure that certain people were on that flight so that the island could bring them to the island.

Jack's grandfather says that one of these days he's actually going to get away from the home and they won't ever find him. I think he knows about the island, and that's where he would go if he got away.

As much as I don't want it to be true, I think Ben went to the marina to kill Penny. He told Charles he was going to, and when he saw Desmond, he knew that Penny must be nearby.

Who is the man who gave his condolences to Jack as he walked away from the airline ticket counter? We also saw him on the plane? I think he's going to end up on the island too. I think the island wants him for something.

I think Hurley might be on the plane because Charlie told him to go and also told him to take one of his guitars (though I can't think of why the guitar would need to go other than the fact that there was a guitar on the original flight).

The island wants Jack to read the note from Locke, which is why he can't get rid of it.

On the plane, they saw the light and heard the humming sound and then they were suddenly on the island. Jack, Kate, and Hurley don't remember the crash. I don't think the plane crashed, I think the island pulled the people it wanted to the island and the rest went on their way. Which means more than the Oceanic 6 could have gone to the island and the island may not have wanted Ben.
Observations from 316

Eloise tells Jack to start thinking about whether or not he thinks the plan to get back to the island is going to work. "That's why it's called a leap of faith, Jack." As we've seen in the past, Jack has been a man of science. Here in the future, though, he has been much more of a man of faith.

When we first see Christian walking around the island, he is wearing a suit and a pair of white tennis shoes. After he'd died, Jack put the tennis shoes on him, thinking that no one would see his feet, so that he would be ready for the funeral as soon as he got back to L.A.

Ben tells Jack that Locke's body is at Simon's Butcher Shop, which is the butcher shop that Charlie's father, Simon, owned.

Jack listed Locke's body as Jeremy Bentham rather than John Locke.

Lost fan noniflower points out that when Jack asks Ben how he can read, Ben says, "My mother taught me." But Ben's mother died just after he was born.

So.....what do you folks think of the parts I put in bold?

Some of my thoughts:

Jack's grandfather: I just figured they threw him into the show as a way for Jack to get something of his father's to take back to the island - the shoes. But maybe there's more to it than that?

Looks like they agree with us about the guy at the airport, and that Charlie told Hurley to get on the plane.

Pretty interesting the part about the flash/humming and Jack, Hurley and Kate not remembering the crash. I like the idea that the island pulled the people it wanted from the plane and the rest continued on their way. What I found REALLY interesting is the part that maybe the island did NOT want Ben? We're going to have to keep watching to see if Ben is back on the island.

Simon's Butcher Shop where Locke's body was held was owned by Charlie's father. Another connection..... And how in the world do people keep track of this kind of stuff??:confused3

Ben tells Jack that Locke's body is at Simon's Butcher Shop, which is the butcher shop that Charlie's father, Simon, owned.

Where did that fact come from. First I read of it and I spent hours on line yesterday reading Lost theories, and I did not read this.:confused3 (I know, sad:lmao: )

I agree with the part about the light flash. I don't think the plane crashed. Boy how weird would that be for the other people on the plane, suddenly people have just disappeared... maybe even the pilot, if Lapidus went back to the island.

I also agree that Claire is dead. Mainly because of her coming to Kate in the "dream".

Interesting theory about the island not wanting Ben back....maybe it didn't like his leadership. Smart island:rotfl:

I have to wonder if people can just enjoy some of the humor without trying to delve into every possible hidden meaning.

There is no hidden meaning about Ben's mother here. It was a joke, and pretty funny.

Jack: (overdramatically as usual) "Ben how can you read?"
Ben: (deadpan) "My mother taught me."

Exactly the type of humor that makes movies like Airplane and Top Secret! so hilarious. Ah, it's lost today. (pun intended)

Good one! :thumbsup2 And I agree that we are trying to look too deeply into a lot of Lost. But the producers have thrown us so many curve balls that it's hard not to!

Oh, I understand completely! I had no idea Charlie's father owned a butcher shop. I vaguely remember one episode where they showed Charlie's childhood (I remember he got his first piano as a Christmas present); I know they showed Charlie's mother, but I don't recall a thing about his dad. Unless it was mentioned in passing or something???? Who knows?:confused3

I don't think Charlie's dad did own a butcher shop. I think someone is just trying to puzzle pieces together. Charlie's Dad was named Simon and he was a butcher. But there was never any mention of him owning a butcher shop. And I can't imagine if he did own a butcher shop, why it would be in L.A.:confused3 Personally, I just think the writers/producers are messing with us. You know, like the funeral parlor was Hoffs Drawlar...an anagram for Flash Forward.

I think this waiting a week between episodes is for the birds. :sad2:

I got spoiled because I discovered Lost after all the seasons were already out. :laughing:

I have to wait to sunday to read these threads as I am in the UK and we don't get lost until then.

I too think Charlie got Hurley to come back to the island. and I too thought Ben said he could never come back. however he (and Richard) used to come and go on the submarine didn't they without all the help of the window thingy.

Anyone else missed Sawyer this week?

Someone please refresh my memory. What are yall (yes I am from alabama and I can say yall) talking about when you say Claire's house blew up? I dont remember that?

Yea! Another "Y'all" user! 14 years in SC got me hooked!

When Claire was staying in the Others house, it blew up last season. Was this part of Keamy's boys that did this? I can't remember.

OK, I remember now. For some reason I was thinking of her house in Austrailia. That makes sense now. Thanks!!

Well, I'm from Pittsburgh, and I say "yinz"!;)

Anyway about Claire: remember last season when the Losties split up, some stayed with Jack on the beach and others went with Locke and Ben? Claire (and Aaron), Hurley and Sawyer went with Locke. They went to "New Otherton" - the Others' village - and were living in those houses. Then Keamy and his guys from the freighter came and attached New Otherton. Claire's house was bombed and blew up just when Sawyer was running to get her to move to another house. Sawyer found Claire among all the debris and carried her out. "Supposedly" she only got a bump on the head, but some of us think she died in the explosion. When Sawyer, Claire, Aaron and Miles were heading back to the beach, Miles kept looking at Claire funny, and Sawyer made some comment about Miles keeping his hands off her. That night is when Claire wandered off into the jungle; next time we saw her, she was with Jack's dad in Jacobs' cabin.

:goodvibes LOST TONIGHT!! :goodvibes

Maybe we will find out if he did confront Penny or Des and what came of it? Oh I am hoping they are both ok. I know that Eloise said the island wasn't finished with him (Des) but I am hoping he doesn't have to go back. I want him to grow old with his true love and finish raising his son.

I so agree with you. I love Penny and Des!!!

I have the feeling we'll be seeing alot of Locke tonight.
